i’ve been away for a while so here’s adam parrish as an apology !!

i am very sorry i’m getting back at you this late! but there’s nothing to worry about when commissioning, really. it’s all about kindness! and, believe it or not, teamwork. however, here are a few tips:

never ask an artist to give you a discount for whatever reason. the price that they put up is there for a reason. i promise you you’ll get your money’s worth!

open-mindedness. you can sometimes have a very strict idea of what you’re looking for, but it’s extremely important to listen to the artist! they know what will make the work more interesting, dynamic, etc. just have a little fun with it. they might come up with something you didn’t even know you wanted until they brought it up!

always bring enough references! just when you think it’s too much, add even more. this means pictures, poses, features (hell, even personality traits if applicable) this gives the artist a better idea of what you’re looking for!

once you get the sketch, don’t be afraid to tell them if there’s something wrong! as long as you do it early in the game, i don’t believe they’ll take it the wrong way! again, just make sure you speak up before it gets too detailed. communication is key!

on that note, do tell them if they’re doing a great job! whenever i get commissioned and they end up liking my work, it boosts me and gives me a lot of motivation (and happiness, of course asjfajs). communication. is. key!
