What is minimal illustration? The concept of minimalism is to strip everything down to its essential quality and achieve simplicity. The idea is not completely without ornamentation, but that all parts and details, are considered as reduced to a stage where no one can remove anything further to improve the design. Basically the idea is to SAY MORE BY SHOWING LESS. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a perfect strategy to focus on what you as my client want to express. Do I illustrate digitally or traditionally? Although I love the feeling of graphite or ink on paper, I mostly work digitally nowadays. Digital illustration has some pros that are beneficial for my commissions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For example, I test out several different brushes in the beginning to see which style is fitting for the project. I work with layers and can easily add or hide elements. I can play around with colors and adjust according to the clients wishes and brand colors. I can process the illustration in different file formats and sizes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I work with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. My favorite app to illustrate is ProCreate but I also use Adobe Fresco (live watercolor brush) and Affinity Designer (vector illustrations).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you have any questions or want to know more about how I illustrate? These illustrations were a commission for @sister_mag No. 48 May 2019 and it was one of my many favorites! Do you know why? Well, it was about summer jewelry trends (my favorite area of illustrations) and I had as much creative freedom as you can get. And the most amazing thing for illustrators is when your illustrations get confirmed without ANY edits or corrections!
