DIY - Superbowl Nacho Building

Every true aficionado must attempt to create his/her subject from the ground up.  So for Superbowl sunday, Nacho Pope made a heavy plate with his friend Blackout Betty.

We used Tostidos as our base ingeredient. This alone is a controversial choice, but we all believe the makers at Frito-Lay do coat these babies with some magic dust, and they lightness and saltiness make them a strong contender against any opponent.

- monterey and cheddar medley - organic ground beef, and organic shredded chicken...all homemade - guacamole = homemade - jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, and sourcream

- great chips that were light n salty.. - cheese was a medley which almost always rates well… - chili was not from a can, and plenty was given… - distribution was somewhat weak…may have caught builder on off-day

But taking into account the limited selection in a ski valley during mid-day…solid plate to pick on for rural VT….respect.

Absolutely rock solid arrangement with high quality ingredients. Even the chicken got jerked :-) Cheese was some soft blend of Venezuelan love and the tomatoes tasted like they were direct from the garden. The only sad part was it was a bit too small for 2-3 hungry people.... Otherwise, big respect Pedro! BTW every dish in the joint was delish....

- iceberg lettuce…ugh - salsa and Gauc in separate plate…please join the fun. - poor cheese distribution… me so lonely and cold underneath - burnt chips on outside; typical problem with many novice nacho builders - plate too small to do my work...one of my pet peeves

- solid shredded chicken...delish - jalapenos were tasty - good cheese distribution and quality - huge surprise factor considering these were found in an irish bar ;-)

(1-10) Cheese quality; gluey goo from tube, analog, or mixed blend of cheddar and colleagues

(1-10) Cheese distribution; all on top with nuthin under the hood? 

(1-10) Chicken distribution; diced (no thx) or shredded and seasoned

(1-10) Veggies; fresh n tasty or out o the can?

(1-10) Color/Presentation; styled, colorful medley

(1-10) Guacamole; fresh or canned crap?

(1-10) Ratios: chips to toppings/cheese/veggies; this can be a critcal difference between nacho builders

(1-10) Spiciness - makin me sweat?

Standard Bar Nachos (or SBN). Average plate seen at most any bar. These were munched on over in Somerville during game 7 of the World Series. Johnny D's Overall pope rating: 62

- sour cream in cup (ouch). Why make us dig it out..everyone wants it?

- No Gaucamole (oouch). Now a lotta place can afford to keep this stuff fresh on hand. But really? This is a F__kin must!

- Chicken is diced (ooouch). Diced chicken, especially this size is torture. Never stays on chips, and distribution is horrible. Shredded chicken = godliness.

- Poor cheese distribution (oooouch) a quintessential component to any nacho plate. Typical symptoms include heavy cheese on top, with chips inside the pile dry and without any lovin. 

- Lack of Jalapenos (ooooouch). One must sweat when eating nachos. That's also why we have sour cream and guac at our disposal.
