Hi, I'm Nacho!

I'm a hobbyist, multifandom artist/animator, aspiring storyteller, and a constant yapper lol. [For more detailed BYF/DNI info or stuff about my boundaries, please read my about me!]

I have a brain full of ideas, too many ideas in fact, my brain is far too full, so this is gonna be my little place where I dump some of those random thoughts, be that in art form, or just rambling posts. I'll probably post a lot of fanart, typically AUs, because I really enjoy putting my own little creative spin on things I like, but I might post original stuff from time to time too, who knows!

(This is basically the "sparknotes version")

-Drake had a pretty rough life prior to becoming "Darkwing"...His parents died when he was only twelve years old, leaving him orphaned, and he didn't have any other family, or a good support system really, so he grew up feeling very isolated from people. (Not helped by the fact that he was notoriously seen as a "geek" and outcast by other kids long before that).

-Things took a nosedive around his college years, when his low self-esteem and insecurity had spiraled into genuine self-loathing. He struggled to know exactly what to do with his life when he saw no inherit VALUE in it. He felt like a completely expendable human being.

-Desperate to do something of merit with his life, he (quite drastically) resorted to becoming a vigilante. Because being depended on by the city means he's adding value and he has a purpose, right? (Yeah his motive for becoming a hero is basically: He had an existential crisis and wanted to do something "important" with his life. We can argue all day how noble that is, but that was his reasoning.)

-When he decided to become "Darkwing" he left his identity as Drake Mallard behind completely, because in his mind, that wasn't a life worth living. He spent around six-ish years in isolation (literally living in a tower on top of a bridge) solely focused in crimefighting.

-His life changed forever however, when he found himself having to serve as the protector (and temporary caretaker of Gosalyn! An orphan girl, who was being targeted by the most dangerous gangsters in the city, because she was the only person who had the necessary code to access a device they needed for nefarious purposes.

-(Gonna skip some details because this is a bio and not a recap of this AU's adaptation of the first episode) After some fumbles, and a near-death experience, Darkwing managed to save Gosalyn and thwart Tarus Bulba's schemes. (With the help of his new friend Launchpad! Who is like...the first person he's bonded with in years)

-Having really bonded with Gosalyn, and wanting her to have a better childhood than he did, he ends up adopting her. Deciding to give life as "Drake Mallard" another shot, now that he has a newfound purpose as Gosalyn's father!

Nacho do you have any lore drops on negs??? Please i beg i need to know what this guy's chaotic side or backstory is more like!!

I’ve always been a little vague on purpose about him because I’ve tried to maintain some intrigue but there’s some stuff that I know I’ve brought up already, so I can at least give the general bullet points I think! ^^

(A lot of his backstory just mirrors DW’s but with slightly different circumstances!)

-Negs’ parents died when he was twelve (same as Darkwing’s backstory) but this loss was sorta different for Negs being that unlike Primeverse Drake, he wasn’t very close with his folks at all. (He resents them more than anything.)

His parents being distant/dying when he was young is not the REASON he’s a villain but I 100% think it’s the reason he’s so antisocial. Not in like a “he doesn’t want to lose anyone else” way but in like a “he’s genuinely uncomfortable being close to people because it’s unfamiliar to him” kinda way. He’s so used to being isolated to an extent that anything else is unsettling to him. From a young age he developed an attitude of “if I don’t look out for myself, nobody else is going to look out for me” basically. He’s used to thinking he has to be 100% self-sufficient.

(bonus fact: Negs’ emotionally distant parenting of his daughter is a direct mirror of how he was raised. I don’t even think he fully realizes how bad of a Dad he is because TO HIM his behavior seems “normal” ☹️)

-Unlike DW who was a people pleaser for the majority of his life as a desperate attempt to gain approval from people around him, Negs’ preferred method of being acknowledged was by being an absolute snot. He’s been known as a troublemaker basically his entire life. Was probably the high-school bully let’s be real. He was never violent as a kid, but I don’t think he was ever “well behaved”. :’|

-He graduated high-school, and then spent two years trying to be “normal” before deciding he was not cut out for being a normal person (for a bunch of reasons…) and he decided he basically wanted to completely reset his life and start over…and become a supervillain apparently because that was gonna solve all of his problems. (Flawless logic you got there man-)

-“Drake Mallard” in the Negaverse is legally recognized as dead, because Negs faked his own death by burning his house so that when he became a villain there’d be no way to tie his current identity to his past one. (Yes you remembered the fire correctly!)

His logic is pretty in line with Darkwing just “quitting” his civilian life when he first became a vigilante, but unlike Prime Drake who sorta left a door open for himself to return back to “normalcy” (that he eventually chose after adopting Gosalyn) Negs has NO plans of ever going back to who he was before, that door is closed for good in his mind.

-Ever since then he’s been “Mr. Negative” he’s earned himself quite the reputation of infamy basically being the #1 supervillain in his home dimension (He can practically do whatever he wants in the Negaverse because he rules by fear)

Back in his home dimension he was pretty much undefeated, a status he took great pride in, until he lost the title.

(Skipping details to keep this brief) he travels to the Prime dimension, and ends up fighting Darkwing, and losing to him on their first encounter. This came as a surprise to him, because he saw DW as an absolute loser, but whatever surely that wouldn't become a regular thing, right? It did.

Negs never has been able to best Darkwing a fact that's only grown increasingly more irritating with each consecutive loss. He's grown quite the resentment towards DW in that time (being that Darkwing massively threatens Negs' perception of himself) so he is now DETERMINED, to finally beat Darkwing and prove his own status as the greater of the two. (more to himself than anyone else at this point-)

Basically Negs has started crashing out because he finally felt good at something and now he feels LESS good at that something and he’s deeply disturbed by that. (Wants Darkwing dead yesterday)

Addressing that second point: Negs’ chaotic side is just his natural state of being genuinely, you’d be hard pressed to find him NOT being a deranged trigger-happy madman LOL. He is constantly rage baiting and causing problems purely for his own amusement. Cannot be within a ten mile radius of Darkwing without irritating him and or starting a fist fight. He has no chill.

(Sorry for how much info this is I have a lot to say about Negs, this isn’t even as in-depth as I could’ve gone…I like his character a lot dhdbdbdbdbdbdb he’s awful but I find him interesting. I love Negs your honor, he’s a loser but he’s my favorite loser!)

I could say a lot more about his reasoning and thought process but I’ve already said too much, and the man has me at gunpoint, so I will refrain./silly
