Rotoscoped Sports Sequence | Final

I decided to do full shading for the rendered part of the video. Was it effective? I sure hope so. It was hard not to completely trace the images and I was even harder to see the figure as the original footage was so blurry.

In this version, I have yet to do the fully rendered section of the sequence. Since I didn’t get the frame from the person before me, I improvised. I used a shuttle since it was a badminton sequence.

Weight Lift | Finals I suppose

I had the reference video open beside me as I drew in, what I considered, keyframes. I then adjusted the frames to try to get the weight right but it still looks a bit off. After the debacle with the head turn, I am very hesitant to try to clean up the lines are draw a character.... I’ll probably leave it like this. It’s stylistic.

I was using this to figure out what to do and how to do it. The back snaps awkwardly for some reason. Maybe not enough frames. I will do another version with a video reference of the weight lift, later. 

Life drawing | Week 11

Model: Socrates

The gestural drawings don’t look every gestural but it was hard to find the curves on a male figure. On the second structural pose, the folded leg looks a bit small but I like the rendering on it.

It was a nice change to have breaks and critiques within the 40 minutes for the long pose. My first sketch was completely off as the torso was way too short. Likely a peer picked that up and I could rectify it before it got too bad. The thigh on the long pose is a bit too thick and the arm is a bit funky. Otherwise, I really like it.

I’m sad that this is the last life drawing class. Thank you for giving me this opportunity! 

Full Rotoscope Double Take

I wanted to try a double take but so I did. I did a proper, non-rotoscoped head turn but I thought I might practice rotoscoping before the final piece so I used this as an excuse. I found that rotoscoping motion blur was rather tricky and required some guessing. At least now I am prepared for the final task.

Head Turn 

I would like to say that this was a disaster. I much prefer my scribbly sketches. Even my character is sad about this.  I tried a more stylistic approach. It kind of worked? I like the stylistic version a lot more than the first attempt. The whole torso moves with this head turn. A very exaggerated turn.

When approaching this task, I decided to start with a ball simulating the arch of the head as it moved. I was constantly referring back to the reference footage and drew some key poses on a different layer, which I hid. I then timed the head turn with an overshot. I decided to do an ease in and ease out as per the reference. Lastly, I sketched in the head again, referring to the reference footage. I think I will continue to adjust the frames though.
