I have a slowly growing list of answers to whether enclave and vhaeraun are sleeping together, of which include link
= It depends. What do you could as sex (and real freaks will know)
= Eh (No further clarification needed)
= No, but they are pair bonded and cant be separated or they will die
= No, but whatever theyre doing is weirder.
= No (Incorrect, but thats what they're telling themselves so thats the metanarrative at the moment)
= Yeah, but they'd rather gouge out their tongues then talk about it directly
= Yeah, I think making Vhaeraun weirdly fixated on a scarred up crotchety 40-50 year old elf whos main appeal was that she was willing to bite him is funny, given everything.
= Yeah (< = Clown who forgot they were an erotica hobby writer)
Oh. Also my blogs main tagging system can be found here, and my (currently WIP) character page can be found here, which has links to all of their reference sheets and basic information about them. Welcome to my little blog of horrors.

I decided it was about time to update the tattoo design to showcase how I've ended up drawing it, and what I think the specific design of it means in the context of the setting.
Attached notes - This is all headcanon
I believe that the city that Enclave grew up in (Guallidurth) would prioritize torture over direct murder as a means of social control; The city at the time that she was apart of it was 80k to Menzo's 20k. In combination with the ruling houses having less immediate control on the way Lolth is worshiped, I think there's a stronger prioritization on not killing the people that one has folded into their house. It's just a matter of having bodies - Unlike Menzo, which uses death as a means of social control, if you're killing the people you have in your house in a place that has 80k people, eventually the house with more people is going to catch up to you.
So focusing on punishments that force people in-line is more adventitious (but leaves open the possibility that they could escape, which is showcased in the way that the city has more explicit sects devoted to other gods that they can't seem to cull.)
IE, Enclave didn't get killed after she was discovered to be a traitor only because the social conditions that she grew up in allowed for it; If she was in a place like Menzo, she would be dead.
As for the tattoos themselves.
Enclaves tattoo's are punitive in nature (based off a mention by Ed Greenwood that most drow have an association to tattoos as something given to prisoners and slaves.) Each part of her tattoo means something different, with the larger design on her forehead being indicative of being discovered as a traitor, and the smaller notches being a more general punitive marker. The external ones are the sign of "punishment" and the internal ones are a sign that she was a ranking priestess, and is now no longer to be granted for the title.
I think this one is regional to Guallidurth; A drow not from the city would be able to tell that they are punitive in nature, but not specifically what they were given for.
The fact that Enclave hasnt removed them is probably seen as odd to most people. There are magic ways of doing so, but (the two fold reason for her not doing so) is that it both never organically naturally occurs to her to change her appearance again, and that at a glance, most drow can tell that she is not on Lolths side.
And on an authorial side of things, that is a purposeful deconstruction of WizCo continuing to try and push ways to tell apart drow who are Killable and drow who are Not. A drow would be able to tell that distinction, but to any outsiders, the spider markings just looks like more devotion to Lolth.
In a healthier, more fulfilled version of herself, she gets rid of the punitive tattoo, but takes up another facial tattoo more emblematic the the trendier, exciting Vhaeraunite tattoos of new. Except the showcase of it being a healthier, more self fulfilled her being that its something she chose, something inherently a little more masculine coded, and a more direct signal of loyalty
On the other hand, on the matter of subversions and psychopop; One of the things I do with the designs of the characters that are sincerely Lolth worshipers is push into styles that have historically been counter-cultural in a way society hasnt found appealing.
Canon does the leaning more into the scandal of leather and boots BDSM, but that aesthetic has gone almost mainstream. And I say almost because, as with all things involving sexuality, theres a limit to it. People still pearl clutch over people wearing leather dog masks at pride, as example, but the tight leather boots and the tight lace-up dress is (watered down as it might have already been in depictions of drow) no longer something that inspires the same KIND of Provocation.
So this is my larger argument as to why I style my lolth worshipers afters street styles like Lolita and Gyaru-
I think sometimes (though not all the time, of course, this is a cut towards a very specific engagement with drow) people try and highlight the way that Lolths larger oppressive structures still harm women not because they're invested in exploring the way that oppressive structures are inherently something exploitative even towards the people they seek to benefit, but instead because they are irritated that the media they have invested their time in dares to ask them to care about men from the perspective of an oppressed minority, and even more irritated people in larger fanbase dare to take that seriously. Because I think instead of the natural conclusion of this being "And if drow woman have it this bad, if the conditions of their system allow for this to happen to a woman and be startling when it does, understand how much worse the men have it," the conclusion they come to is, "And so the idea of this being a society where men are hurt consistently is one that is nullified, because woman are too. So i don't have to pay attention to that as a theme, and the things that do are overplaying the harm they encounter."
And it's like. Well. No. Because there's still a distinct class difference within the drow. For drow woman not to be harmed by the oppressive system, they have to participate within it. The act of preventing harm to the self is one in which has an inherent victim. The length of violence not only permissable but expected to be performed on drow men is still one of which is unimaginable and incomparable to real-life social structures, but is in itself still a mirroring of the real world patriarchy in a way that if you try to avoid, you end up failing to thematically understand.
When people do subversions or explorations of Lolth's culture, typically they'll go two routes.
The first is that they try and write the priestesses of Lolth as a "empowerment of the woman" culture, which... Personally, I don't think particularly hits the mark. We've talked about it before, but Lolth culture has historically been written as (in a lot of ways) Patriarchy in an extreme end of a funhouse mirror as it is a story about torture and bloodshed and BDSM. To write intriguing stories about female Lolth characters, one must (in my very humble opinion, of course, I can't control what other people do) care about and understand the struggles that men go through in the larger, real world patriarchal system. Any critique one can have about female characters still being hurt under the larger, oppressive Lolth religious systems is one that therefore can be applied to real world men within our own.
To rip the bandaid off, this is something I play into with Enclave within the recent comic I did about her gender and deconstructing it. The larger feelings of isolation, the idea of all socialization being one in which inherently subjugates or competes, and the larger degendering once someone rejects that; That once you refuse to participate in an abusive system, you then become a victim of it. That's sincere gender theory around men and masculinity within the Very Real Lived World, baby.
On the other hand, I don't think it's right to play into it as strictly a place that is doom and gloom. I think that RA's influence in writing Menzo as a place of schemeing politics and mafia-esc houses is one that's an incredible building block, but I think people have a tendency to get caught up in the larger doom and gloom of the consistent abuse, torture, and murder that comes as a result of it. In trying to give these topics the weight we believe they deserve, we scrape the teeth of narrative interest that make Drow... Drow.
In reality, I think the most interesting way to subvert and interpret Lolth's culture is by playing into it in a psychopop aesthetic.
Lolth's religion is, the way I would argue it, something that should be exciting. There should be an exaggerative and performative way the violence is cultivated. I think that depictions of these larger themes and topics within Lolth's culture should feel almost exploitative and vulgar. Lolth wants you to be your worst self, and so her religion and the circumstances of it are one that is crafted to pressure-cook the worst out of people. It is a culture of violence built both on isolation and cruelty, but hedonistic desires and self-indulgence to ones that have power.
Vhaeraun and Eilistraee, compared to Lolth, are quite boring.... non-pejorative. Obviously if I thought they were narrative boring, I wouldn't be writing as much as I am about characters existing in their religions. But they're boring in the same way that coming out of an abusive relationship and moving into a healthy one is; In the underdark, something exciting is always happening. The kind of narrative intrigue you should get through Vhaeraun and Eilistraee (comparatively) is a quiet, more meditative one; each of which take a drastically different aesthetic appeal while doing so. Lolth's religion should (though I know canon doesn't do this) be bright colors and extravagance, while Vhaeraun and Eilistraee and the black and white dulling of that.
Anyway. That's all to say that I think Lolth Drow should be less fear and hunger and more danganronpa. If you know what I mean.

= Read with workskin on (this should happen automatically). It can be read without it, however might lose some of the fics effect. =
So I had an idea for what Enclave was doing in the very beginning of 4e/Spellplague and decided to just jump into it guns blazing. This is not a hard thing to read/write and is something I'm going to be poking at periodically. This fic is going to be updated a bit differently due to the nature of the formatting. Each update I will mention the starting chapter, and the amount of chapters in each update. For this one, there are 3 chapters (1-3).

Apparently theres a tag game version of this going around, but I did it for funsies. #Get to know my characters and all that. I actually have quite a few of these on backlog, but whether theyre released from the vaults of private group chats is to be decided on another day
In my head and heart enclave and ilphaer are both subversions of an extrovert and introvert. Enclave likes company and people and wants to be around people but cannot, and ilphaer kind of finds people draining and difficult to deal with but does so because she knows she can do good with the position shes in. Ilphaer would be content to kind of rot away in her room twiddling with magic objects and new spells for the rest of her life. If a child yells too loudly in the road she feels a knife of annoyance go through her skull Enclave is someone who enjoys being around others. She enjoys the company of loud people and gets lonely very easily. But she does not know how to engage with others and so, ergo....

Okay. So new thing for everyone to consider. What does your Drow character think of the Eilistraeen Ladystone.
Condition for interacting with this post: You are NOT allowed to make snarky comments about Ed Greenwood the real life person and author about his inclusion of this, OP thinks this is awesome.
