Vhaeraun and his tendency to be proactive in protecting and training his followers.

The implication that he went out of his way to personally develop the spells that would better conceal his priestess spies, and goes out of his way to personally train those that would otherwise be denied the opportunity to learn how to defend themselves.

If a DM wishes to make known to players the existence of double agent priestesses in drow society, an effective way of revealing them is to have PCs witness the unmasking and furious destruction of such a priestess at the hands of priestesses loyal to Lloth, who will spit, snarl, lash with their snake-headed whips until one grows tired simply watching them, and afterwards trumpet their victory over "the evil Shadow, the treacherous Masked One," as they parade the mutilated rem-nants of the traitor through the city. This grisly fate has befallen many a devotee of Vhaeraun, particularly before some of the concealment spells now available to his faithful had been devised by the Masked Lord: notably, in Menzoberranzan, the priestesses Ililree Cobranhree, Slylyndrath Dhree, and Myyrin Jalhuus, and the priest Narr Thuirbrynn. Drow tend not to speak the names or want to remember such traitors - their Houses disown them for safety's sake, and other drow are urged by the yochlol not to remind people of treachery to Lloth by keeping alive names of those who have so sinned.

Vhaeraun Vhaeraun (vay-rawn), the drow god of thievery and drow males, is chaotic evil. He is known as the Masked Lord and the Shadow. He is Lolth's only son, but he chafes under his mother's dominance and despises her favoritism towards the females of the race. He has become the patron of male drow and has taught many of them the arts of the rogue so that they are not helpless against the great power of Lolth's chosen females. Many of his followers teach rebellion against the ingrained matriarchy. Others preach that the drow should increase their influence and power above the ground. The domains associated with him are Chaos, Drow, Evil, Travel, and Trickery, and his favored weapon is the short sword.

Ilphaer's mother had her when she was under 150; Ilphaer was her only child. She was Menzoberranzan born, though the larger parts of her history like if it was a noble or merchant-house are undecided. She, at the very least, got the training to become a priestess of Lolth, but clearly not without even a minor amount of cognitive dissonance.

Create a database, preferably searchable of all information about the Forgotten Realms Drow that has everything organized and in one place, akin to my Vhaeraun document.

Complications of this goal:

It’s a lot of information. Like a lot of information. While the Vhaeraun (and yet to be published Eilistraee document) involved shuffling through a lot of books, tweets, and forum posts to get pieces of information, this would be essentially taking entire books worth of information and reorganizing it in a way that makes all information accessible. I knocked out the Vhaeraun document in about 3 weeks, and that was with the help of an editor to get formatting done properly.

Likewise; Copyright hell. I hold no immediate moral qualms about this project, as WizCo seems to have an almost stubborn disregard to it's old lore. Likewise, a lot of places on the internet get away with posting what is just Canon Information. However, I struggle to find a place I think I can get away with hosting this. For now, I will be building the information I recover on a google document, as I did with the Vhaeraun document. However, I eventually want to make it a proper Database thats been compiled somewhere.

Things I need to figure out:

Organizational strategies. This was easier with Vhaeraun and Eilistraee, of which did not make it hard to narrow down certain things by individual god, and then group. But with a project like this, I would want to find a way to also tag things by like. Gender (Male, Female) Socio-economic Class (Noble, Merchant, Commoner), City (Menzo exclusive? Larger cultural trend? ect.)

This would be helpful with a proper filter, where certain information is ""Tagged"" with what information it is applicable to. But that feels like it would be hell to put together. So we'll cook on that while we collect the information itself.

Starting point:

I think the best place to start is with flat information collecting through 2e sources such as Drow of the Underdark and the Menzoberranzan (boxed set), and then branching out into things that only have scatterings of information on the drow. Narrowing down what is Drow (setting neutral) and Drow (of the forgotten realms) will be important, if only to keep information straight.

I would like to go by edition, which means that inevitably the tail end of this project will be easier then the beginning of it. To give you an idea of how much easier: My Vhaeraun document had something like 25 sources from 2e-3e, and 4 sources from 4e/5e. The more difficult thing in the 4e-5e era's will be collecting Greenwood forum postings, greenwood grotto postings, and tweets. However, the light at the end of that tunnel is that a lot of those have already been collected for the Vhaeraun and Eilistraee documents.
