There’s nobody who can ground him for them

I've been thinking a lot about creating my own iteration of the TMNT. I have done something similar in the past, and while that AU is still very dear to me, I really wanted to try something new. So I present, TMNT Shifted! The main change is that the ages/roles have been swapped into reverse order, with Mikey as the leader and head of the family and Leo as the youngest brother. I've drawn a lot of inspiration from other iterations, mainly Rise and 2003.

He remembers what it felt like to open that portal, well, besides the pain. It was as if a floodgate had opened. He felt like he was drowning in the energy. Of course, the portal took a lot out of him. But after a few weeks of recovery, he could feel the raging ocean of power in his chest once more. Nowadays, he would compare it more to a puddle in a desert. Draxum’s only conclusion was that he just needed more practice. That his portal came so naturally because he was in a life-or-death situation, and his mystics responded to his severe distress accordingly. Mikey didn’t have the heart to tell anyone that maybe Casey was wrong about him. Maybe because they changed the timeline… he didn’t need his powers anymore. Maybe they would continue to drain until there was nothing left… Maybe his ninpō would follow. He never voiced these concerns, obviously. His family had a lot more pressing matters than his stupid magic tricks not working.

In my own headcannon future… I think Mikey would end up parting ways from his family for a few years to attend some version of the undercity’s mystic university or something. He’d probably become an official apprentice under Draxum, and work on discovering more about his mystic abilities. Of course he’d come to visit as often as he could. Little bro gotta grow up eventually 🥹
