Cyrus Rathborne

Tanya wasn’t going to give up trying to get his attention as she held his possession in her hand. She cleared her throat once and when he didn’t respond,she did it again. “Sorry to interrupt your reading but I believe that this is yours”She said holding it out to him. “What are you reading away?”

“The passion sunset series. it’s amazing. Honestly I haven’t read anything this good in ages. I’m more of an a classic literature person if we’re being honest but this author just hooks you into the end. oh? what’s that?” Cyrus said as she handed him a small trinket. “It certainly is my style, I’ll take it if it’s lost but it’s not mine darling.”

Elizabeth arched an eyebrow, looking down at him. “You can, but you’ll actually have to check that book out if you want to finish it,” she said, a little coolly. She had been the “I only like my own children” type. “The library is closing.”

“what? oh come on elizabeth.  i’m almost finished! 15 more minutes!” he begged like a child. “truth be told, i lost my library card.” he lied. he couldn’t check the book out after having several overdue. and while he was scared of no one, Elizabeth made him...uneasy.

Freya’s brows furrowed in annoyance. “You’re literally reading a trashy romance novel at work, you’re not busy.” Freya scoffed flipping through her calendar. “You have a meeting I set up for you with that new assistant you asked for. She’s waiting at the bar.” 

“she’s hired. now go away.” Cyrus said waving his hand going,trying to go back to the book. “also! passion sunrise is not trashy. It is art. it’s full of love, adventure, danger...passion!! perhaps you should read it. melt that icy heart of yours.”

Lips pursed into a cordial smile, Benjamin chose to forgo a mindless apology. “Was looking to get to the other side, but thought it’d be rude to just trample on your legs.” Though his stride might be wide, he didn’t want to step over someone and startle them.

“well just step over me man. I’m not very wide.” Cyrus sighed, determined to not leave his spot. “Or at the very least let me get through this chapter. I need to know why Delphine felt a tremor down her spine.”

it was almost closing time at the local bar but the detective still hadn’t finished his first bottle of beer which was now warm and completely flat after having spent so much time neglected on the counter. for the past hour his eyes had been glued to the screen of his phone — too much news is never good news. a deep frown had been present on logan’s features the entire time as he read through the threads of text messages trying, and failing, to make sense of them. it was always cause for a headache when he got updates from hunters outside of barton. especially those who thought they had caught sight of one or another of his late family members running around somewhere.  ❝ oh , son of a bitch …  ❞  the hunter muttered as he reached for his bottle.  ❝  dead means dead , fucking learn that already.  ❞ gaze still focused on the device buzzing in his hand, the detective didn’t realize he was in fact reaching for someone else’s drink instead of his own. @bartonstart​

“ah ah ah detective” cyrus said swatting at the man’s hand. He would admit he did get a little too close, curious to see what the man was so intent on reading but to no avail. “you don’t seem like a sangria kind of man.” he smirked, turning on his stool to look at the other. “pray tell what has your mind so far far away?” he asked.

Alastair chuckled softly when he heard Cyrus’s voice, out of everyone in this coven he trusted and cared for him the most. He was his best friend and the one who probably should’ve been leader instead of him but then again he’d always been the smart on. “You did, but unlike you my parents trained me since day one to take lead. I always listen to you cyrie but we did need a leader.” He mused chuckling softly looking at the other shaking his head “How could’ve pulled this off Cyrus? This was done to stir a pot, something we hardly need at this moment.”

“you could have let one of the other fuddy duddies have it for awhile.Look at Ferdinand. He misses you. You’ve been all work an no play since you’ve gotten this position. And I for one will not stand for it.” Cyrus whined, stroking the pet iguana. He knew it wasn’t the time for dramatics, but he wanted to see Alistair smile. he’d been so stressed out. “Who know my friend. I haven’t seen a mermaid in centuries. who knows what previously extinct creatures can come up next? God i hope it’s not the trolls. Ghastly Creatures..”                                                    

Alastair was looking over some of the various reports he’d heard about what happened at the bonfire party. He knew it was going to be talked about at the next Council meeting he and he needed to have all the information before attending. Of course he’d dealt with sirens before and this didn’t seem like their work but then again did anything seem like anyone’s work when there was an attack? He heard the knock on his door sighing softly “Enter, I’m not sure I can stare at these reports any longer, what is it?”

Cyrus was drapped in the door way as he looked at his friend. “Oh good. I can give you something better to stare at.” he smiled. “I warned you not to take this position. Nothing but papers and boredom. But no. No one listens to dear old Cyrie.” he spoke each word dramatically like he was the most misfortuned soul in the world. Drama was a language, and Cyrus spoke it fluently. “I spoke to the fae as you requested. But I’m afraid they too are still in mourning.”

“GOD no! What kind of monster do you think I am?!” Cyrus gasped, hand on his chest. “There are clearly chinchilla. Don’t worry they are YEARS old befure fur trapping was frowned upon.” he sighed. 

Freya followed biting down on the inside of her cheek to keep her frown and sour face at bay. “I’ll start sifting through candidates. Try and find one as close to perfect, though your only employee who is perfect is me” she said simply jotting the task down in her phone. “I’m sure making a martini wasn’t her only failure.” she clicked her tongue. Freya had a distaste for the girl who had been hired and thankfully let go. That had certainly improved her mood around the club and a lot less clean up from her icing inanimate objects. “I’m booking acrobats for our upcoming event, i’ll make sure there is fancy lettuce for Fernando, among other things.” she said tucking her phone into her Gucci purse before inspecting her nails. 

“you give yourself far too much credit.” Cyrus rolled his eyes. What on earth had possessed him to hire a fairy sector leader would always puzzle him. He was sure it was those damn tequila shots. “yes yes whatever you need.” he nodded waving off the expense. Years of gambling and perfecting the stock market, as he was there when it first launched, left Cyrus a very very wealthy man. “Tell me Freya, do you ever have fun?”

“Alright then. Since I’m the newbie at this whole go with the flow kind of thing, what do we do first? Flow is clearly not happening… yet.”

“Luckily for you darling, flow is all i know. see what i did there?” cyrus smiled leaning forward. “SO first thing is first,” he said two glasses of wine appearing in his hand. “can’t be sober.” he shook his head. Cyrus;’ may have been a borderline functioning alcoholic. but at least he was a fun one. “So can i ask you something personal? Call it curiosity.” 

“You would be correct in it being someone but not in the way you might be thinking.”She chuckled softly. “I sure do, one latte coming up.”She clapped her hands as she began to make it. “My neighbors had their music on so loud and for so long last night that I swear they must have been sleeping through it.”

“Well some people, like those from cities, when they transition into a quieter place find it harder to sleep without the rustle of the streets. Or perhaps they were up to things you would rather not hear.” he smiled. “i have a spell for making a room soundproof. ill send to you.”
