Look to Winward

Happy 4th of July to all those who believe that we still have time to recover our democracy and our dignity.

In their eyes I see reflected

The beginning of early desire,

The echo of myself festooned

With my light of American god

Elevated by the implausible flair

Bestowed by an clandestine luck

In the hours preceding the morn

Of this body on this turning Wheel;

And the looks acquired for a fee

That I do not pay gladly every day

Fill the very air I pass through.

But I elude their transient whispers

In my descent to the cobalt landscape

And I walk untouched among the breath

She's become rich through her music, through her talent. And on top of that, her music can be enjoyed for free.

It's not summer without you, Mom.

From the doors to summer

I remember

I was happier when I thought the world was a good place and that there was more good than evil in the human soul.

But my shoes remained wet and her eyes remained closed.
