if endless summer ever gets resurrected by choices as a cash grab, i will cry. i know they hinted at it, but iām still hoping theyāll show some respect for one of their best series. after the crown and the flame fuck up, iām even more nervous now. my girl kenna didnāt deserve that shit.
A/N: Here is my first venture back into regular endless summer content. Please let me know what you think! I've always interpretated Aleister as a bit of an anti-hero and I've also wanted to flesh out Grace's character more. This fic is all about exploring that and my own version of their dynamic. Don't worry, I have Jake x Lo on the way, but I hope you enjoy this one.

Summary: After siding with his father for the groupās safety, Aleister had changed more than he thought. Finally, heād managed to escape with everyone, but his reunion with Grace was not as sweet as expected.
Upon Aleisterās return to the group, the chill of his fatherās presence seemed to follow him, unlike anything he had known before. This was supposed to be the end, a cathartic ending to a relationship that had plagued him all his life. Finally, heād found the light at the end of the tunnel.Ā
Grace.Ā
At last, a new beginning was just at his fingertips. However, even with the gain of freedom, he was still endlessly pondering the constant danger he was n. The group had been nothing but welcoming to him, despite what he had done. Perhaps this was just built-up guilt, that was only leaking out then because he never really had the chance to feel it.Ā
Meanwhile, Grace could sense that there was something different about her love. Could he even still feel it? What exactly did his father do to him in that compound? What did he make him do?Ā
The estranged couple had avoided the chance to discuss anything until that moment, since the groupās first priority was finding a hideout for the night. As the moon found its spotlight in the sky, Grace spotted Aleister gazing at the night with curiosity, holding a desire to wait until he was ready to open up to her. On an island where time has no bounds, a peaceful twilight was hard to come by, and Aleister had taken full advantage of it.
Even though he should be reuniting with his friends, Aleister had never felt more isolated from his former self and the people he knew. The icy atmosphere in the air was thick, as Grace observed him from a mossy, stone wall. Usually, an unsteady wave of anxiousness would wash over her in these moments, because she knew she was the only person Aleister would open up to. However, she felt motivated to understand the events of the compound and why it was so difficult for him to tell the truth about it. Drawing on that flicker of courage, she stepped onto the damp grass, the faint rustle alerting Aleister of her presence.Ā
āEveryone misses you in there.ā Grace muttered, only to be disappointed when his head does not turn at the sound of her voice.
For a while, there was nothing but silence, as Aleister processed her presence and how he should handle the conversation heād long dreaded.
āThere are too many questions, Grace.ā He finally began, eyes still fixed on the shadows he swore were around him. āThere are too many questions that I want to answer, but I cannot.ā
Graceās nerves were lowered by the fact he was finally comfortable enough to speak. With that newfound but fragile hope, she took a step forward, delicate enough to not create any fear. āYou saved them. Now, they just want their friend back.ā
Something in her words caused a shudder to run through Aleister - a frosty feeling that was far too familiar now. In an instant, he flipped around to look her in the eye.
āWhat if Iām not the same person I was? Would they still want me then?ā His voice carried loss, as if he was grieving a part of himself. Grace knew his hardships well enough, but this was something she had never seen before. Displaying a sign of understanding, she carefully took another step in his direction, her eyebrows furrowing with worry. āI know I was stupid to believe my father could protect us. I know that I defied him. I just cannot help but feel like heās still influencing me. I feel so different.āĀ
The distance between them was impossible to ignore, as if a colossal iceberg was blocking Aleisterās will to embrace Grace the way he did before he betrayed the group. All she could feel was him slowly slipping away from her.Ā
āItās okay to change. This island makes it impossible not to.ā Grace reassured,Ā hoping that was enough to bring him back down to earth. To her dismay, it only seemed to drive him further away, as the viscous frown he once wore on a daily basis returned to his lips. Frustrated, his hands balled into fists.
āItās more than that, Grace. I let my father lock you in a cage. I did despicable things that I canāt bring myself to share with you.ā Aleister admitted. To him, it felt like creating his own personal prison was the only way to atone for his sins. Grace searched for his gaze, a looming desperation in his pale, blue eyes. āI thought I was protecting you.ā
Upon hearing those words sheād grown sick and tired of, Grace sensed her own frustration building. āHow many times do I have to tell you that I hate being put on a pedestal? None of us ever needed protecting, Aleister. We had each other!ā She snapped, a shock of regret hitting her as soon as her vent ended. In response, Aleisterās eyes widened, not because he had not witnessed this side of his girlfriend before, but because of her words.Ā
āIām not a hero, Grace, but I was thinking about the safety of the group when I did that.ā Aleister clarified, hanging his head in defeat. āNow, itās something else. I feel vengeful and lost. I want my father to fucking suffer.āĀ
With that, it was like Aleister was frozen inside the iceberg between them, completely isolated from the rest of the world. It was up to Grace to bring him warmth, once she made that choice. After a deep exhale, she closed the space between them, cupping his cold face with her hands. From a short distance, she could not just notice his pain, she could feel every single grain of it. That same desperation lurking in his gaze was reaching out for her, like a ghost begging from the Underworld.
āYou never needed to be the hero. You needed to trust us. Trust me.ā As she spoke, Aleister carefully contemplated every word, losing himself in her honesty. Of course he trusted her; that fact she doubted it felt like a stab to his heart. In his mind, everything he did was for her, but somehow it changed him. However, was it for better or worse? āIāve done things Iām not proud of. I didnāt even have a good excuse, just spite. Iāve had unthinkable thoughts about my mother, because of the way she treated me. I understand what youāre feeling. You just have to let me listen.āĀ
Her assertive tone ensured that her words struck Aleister deeply. In response, he softly connected his hand to the one she held his face with, rubbing circles over her skin. Its purpose was to display his affection for her, but more importantly, to show how he was listening to her, which pleased her more than he could ever know. For a few moments, they just remain there together in silence, their foreheads knocking in unison. As time passed, Aleister slowly began accepting the warmth she brought to him. Finally, he raised his head to stare into her eyes, making sure she knew he meant his next sentence.
āIām so sorry for everything.ā The pain returned to his face momentarily, as he directed his hand so he was stroking the chestnut curls in her hair. āI never blamed you for hating me.ā
Bewildered, Grace laced her fingers around her loveās neck, trying to combat his incorrect words with physical affection. āI was angry⦠but I never hated you. I donāt think I have it in me.āĀ
For the first time in a while, a smile crept upon Aleisterās expression, their trust finally fulfilled. āOf course you donāt. Youāre the embodiment of the sun.ā He said with certainty and as much love as he could muster. With that, their lips meet, a desperation connecting them deeper than they had ever been before. Grace shifts her hand placement to his white hair, making the most of their reunion after so long apart. It was as if elements were colliding, creating the perfect balance of ice and fire. After a few passionate moments, they part, locking eyes once more.
āI love you, Aleister. Iāll never stop, no matter how much you change.ā Grace promised, giving her words a moment to cut him deep so he completely believed them. That smile he gained never disappeared.
āI love you more, Grace Hall. My father will suffer for causing you pain.ā
Let me start with saying I'm so glad to see you again after all these years ā¤ļø

I really liked how you leaned into Grace and Aleister's relationship, that whole push and pull between his self-loathing and her stubborn need to reach him is so true to both. And that line:
āWhat if Iām not the same person I was? Would they still want me then?ā
ā¦oof. That hits hard. There was so much room to develop Aleister's story (everyone's, really!) that I'm once again angry at how rushed the 3rd book felt.

the fact that i was posting on tumblr when endless summer was still unfinished and now itās 8 years old, really hurts my brain. it still feels like yesterday and i donāt think iāve found another story that iāve connected with more.
if i could be bothered to delete all my old tumblr posts, i would. little me loved shitposting. i donāt mind the old writings as much, but some of it is embarrassing lol
hello. iāve returned once more for like two seconds. give me a week because iām SWEATING to write little short stories about endless summer again. i started writing one last night about grace and aleister, who i have somehow never written about before. writing an entire book is fucking hard and i have literally no time for it at the moment so this is how iāll quench my thirst for endless summer content.
also, wtf happened to the choices app? i will not be reading those new stories.
anyway, if thereās anything youād like me to write about, iām aching for suggestions. expect that grace and aleister write up next week. thank you!!
p.s: if you still follow me and care about what i write, i love you so much <3
WAKE UP - ANDROMEDA SNIPPET (ENDLESS SUMMER REWRITE)
A/N: Hello! This is a draft of the opening of my endless summer concept story. It's obviously not the full thing because there's spoilers like straight after for the main concept of the book lol. Hope you like it and you'll definitely understand where I got the idea from.
Ā āDarlinā?ā
Ā Ā She stirred at the word, but only internally. Her own mind could barely bring itself to function again and it certainly wasnāt used to it. Even her own thoughts were hard to form. It felt like she hadnāt moved mentally in forever and hearing a sound almost seemed like a foreign concept.
Ā Ā āCome on. Wake up.ā
Ā Ā There it was again. That voice. The tone of a male. Strained and tainted with fear. Echoing like a ghost in her head. But was it a devil or an angel?Ā āI know youāre there. Please.ā
Ā Ā Again, she felt herself stir. This time physically, determined by the catch in his breath and the shock that came with it. All she had to do was open her eyes. Why did it feel like such a heavy burden to perform one action?
Ā Ā āYouāre breathing!ā
Ā Ā He gasped again. Less strain and more hope. Although her body felt completely numb, her senses were finally coming back to her. At last, her eyes shifted and she could open them half-way. Despite her blurred version, she caught sight of a face staring at her, shaking her gently.
Ā Ā The man didnāt talk for a while. He just waited impatiently for her to regain full consciousness. Not hearing his voice almost made her think she was falling into darkness again.
Ā Ā āPleaseā¦āĀ Inhale. Exhale. With her breathing pattern finally falling into place, she tried to open her eyes further. Sheās met face to face with the man calling out to her. He was strong-faced and tanned, with cerulean eyes that ignited with hope once her own had finally opened. In a way, she recognised him but in another, sheād never seen him until this very moment.
Ā āOh my god! Youāre alive.ā He exclaimed, running his hand over his sweating forehead. At this point, every part of him was relieved.
Ā Ā Adjusting to reality, she held his gaze for a long moment before the questions regarding the situation entered her mind at last. Where was she? Who was this man before her? Who was she?Ā Clearing her throat, she attempted to speak. āI feel⦠numb.ā She barely muttered, physically defeated and the man wasnāt at all surprised by it.
Ā Ā āI know. Donāt worry, Iām going to get you out.ā He assured, unable to suppress a smile of satisfaction, which she was only confused by.
Ā Ā āWhere⦠am I?ā
Ā Ā The man turned his attention away from her, breaking their stare. Now, he was fiddling with something beside her that she couldnāt make out through her tainted vision.
Ā Ā āYouāve been asleep in this pod for five years. Iām sorry it took so long for me to find you.āĀ Ā
Ā Ā Suddenly, she felt her body shake. Whether it was a reaction to the reveal or her senses coming back to her she couldnāt decipher. What she could sense was that the numbness was starting to go away and her body was slowly becoming mobile. The man brought his eyes back to hers and they widened as the sight of her stirring.
Ā Ā āCan you move?āĀ
Ā Ā Sure enough, her hand was now present. Movement felt natural again so she attempted her first action but something held her back.Ā
Ā Ā āWhatā¦ā
Ā Ā āYouāre trapped. Iām trynaā find a way to disable it.āĀ He started moving his head frantically again but it abruptly fell down, while his eyes stared in that direction for a good moment.
Ā Ā āAh, fuck it.āĀ
Ā Ā BANG. BANG. BANG. Three straight shots and she felt a sharp pain on her arms. The numbness was fleeting but she still couldnāt stop her body from plummeting to the floor, meeting cold tile. The unknown man reacted, lifting her from the ground and clutching her in his arms, as carefully as he could.Ā
Ā Ā āShit, are you okay?ā He asked, panicked, hastily brushing her hair out of her face. Her brain still isnāt catching up, even as she looked in his eyes once more. No information was coming to her. Finally, her voice allowed her to form words.
Ā Ā āWho⦠are you?ā
Ā Ā The manās eyes widened, as if he was realising what was happening.
Ā Ā āLo, come on. Itās me.āĀ
Ā Ā It was as if he didnāt think he had to explain his identity. As if she was supposed to know. However, he did say one important thing. Something she recognised. He called her āLoā.Ā
Ā Ā āYou donāt rememberāā
Ā Ā BANG. Another loud and unsettling noise, and suddenly, she was on the floor again. Vision catching up swiftly now, she watched as the man grabbed his arm in pain. Two guard-looking figures had entered the room, both holding gigantic guns. One had obviously just been fired.
Ā Ā āYou really never know when to fucking quit, do you, Wolf?ā One of them speaks in a disgusted tone.
Ā Ā Wolf?
Ā Ā However, the man didnāt appear to slow down from the shot. In a flash, he ran at the two men, going for one of the high-powered guns. They wrestled for it for a couple seconds, before he lifted a leg and kicked the soldier's own to limit his balance. As a counter, the soldier goes for his opponentās weak arm, causing him to seeth at the impact. Reacting, he steadies his grip on the heavy machinery and moves one of his hands to grab his gun from his belt, planting a shot in the leg heād kicked. Now, the soldier was caught off guard, allowing her supposed saviour to take charge. The other soldier tried to shoot back but the manās too fast. With no warning, he fired a flock of bullets that seemed to end the two soldiers' lives instantly. They fell to the floor, motionless.
Ā Ā Cautiously, the man stared at their corpses for a few moments, as if to make sure theyāre truly dead. Satisfied, he turned his attention back to the girl, eyes wide from what sheād just witnessed. Rushing to her side, he attempted to help her to feet.
Ā Ā āCome on. We need to get out of here before more come.āĀ

A/N: Here is a snippet of Aleister's place as a character in my rewrite for Endless Summer. I believe a villain arc is just what he needs ;)
The robotic lift beeped abruptly, locking Aleister out of his mind once more. Heavy, silver doors slid open with an almost taunting ease, revealing a hallway drenched in the dark. Each step he took cascaded him in more shadow the deeper he ventured until he finally reached the threshold of a grand office.Ā
The room exuded power and unease. Chairs, upholstered in stiff, unforgiving leather, stood like sentinels around a polished ebony desk. The walls, lined with evidence of forgotten crimesāphotographs, newspaper clippings, trophies of maliceāpressed down like unspoken accusations. A massive stained-glass window dominated the right wall, casting fractured light onto the floor. Its vivid reds and golds painted a scene of triumph and ruin, the figures locked in eternal conflict.
Before the window, Everett Rourke stood in quiet contemplation, his hands clasped behind his back. The faint light played over his sharp profile, a shadow of authority and menace. Even without a word, he could strike fear through a menacing aura. Aleister froze, his posture stiff, waiting in tense silence for his father to acknowledge him. He knew better than to anger his father by declaring the problem first.
Ā āI take it, you visited Laboratory 99?ā Rourke began, his voice complete with mostly grit and could easily have been mistaken as a growl. However, this was considered his neutral level. Aleister turned to face the same direction as his father, despite only being greeted with this back and making sure to keep an unmistakable distance.Ā
Rourkeās head jerked left to half-acknowledge his son. āI see⦠and what of āSPOILERā?āĀ
Aleister sighed, realising he couldnāt have avoided delivering this news. āDead.āĀ His breath caught for a second but he quickly resolved it, not willing to lose face in front of his father.Ā
Ā Ā Rourke tutted, upon hearing that. āIt seems we shouldāve killed her when we had the chance.ā He spins to completely face his son, making his disappointment very well-known. āI trust you will fix this problem, Aleister.ā
Ā Ā Five years before all of this madness, Aleister would have never expected his father to speak with such confidence in him. All this time, he had been proving his worth and displaying his intellectual proficiencies to Rourke. Even then, it still sent a warm sensation through his ice-cold heart.Ā
Ā āI already have the Arachnids searching the premises. She canāt have gone far. If our efforts prove fruitless, we shall move to the outskirts.ā Aleister replied, replicating his fatherās directness as he always did.Ā Ā At those words, Rourkeās face produced a prideful smirk, realising his son was fully wrapped around his finger. āGood.ā
hello, quick poll! I want to post my first character scene for my Endless Summer Rewrite. Just wondering which character you would like to see first :)
I have now written several scenes I will be posting soon from my book 'Andromeda', which is an Endless Summer rewrite. These are character introductions mostly and showing you changes I've made to hopefully improve them. However, my worst nightmare is writing them in ways people won't enjoy. With this, I would love if people would provide their input on things they would enjoy in this book. Anything you would change about Endless Summer and the characters, other charcters you would enjoy seeing more of (they don't have to be in the main 12) or even an ending you would love. I want to make this book the best it can be, with ideas that people want to see so please feel free to drop a message in my inbox or reply to this post. Thank you so much.
A/N: I've had a few people ask for more jake x mc fics and I haven't written one in years so I'm honestly really flattered people are still interested in my writing. Thank you, it means a lot. I wrote this one a while ago but figured I'd post it. I'm still working on my books. I just have a lot of stuff to balance at the moment. Hope you enjoy and if even 4 people want more, I'll write some more.
Summary: The whole group wound up in another Elysian Lodge centred on the other side of the island. Lo wakes up and notices Jake is nowhere next to her, which is odd because she remembers falling asleep on him. She gets up to find him.
She looks around the lodge that everyone was too exhausted to explore last night. Probably a mistake because anyone could have snuck up on them last night. Perhaps Lundgrenās soldiers know this was a place they could have chosen to hide in and are on their way right now.Ā
Loās mind had begun to spin to negative thoughts and she tried to pull it back to the reason she got up in the first place. She walks up a big staircase and stumbles upon a hallway of suites. She passes some doors until she reaches one with an ajar door. Curiously, she enters.
Immediately, she spots Jake, sitting on a couch thatās connected to a window. Heās just staring out at the snow. Lo canāt see his eyes but she already knows heās not looking out of peace. The door creaked slightly as she walked in and she expected Jake to turn around. But he doesnāt. His eyes remain on the outside.
Lo stays put by the door for a moment, waiting for something from Jake. Still nothing. So, she slowly walks up to him, placing a hand on his shoulder so he knows itās her.
āJakeā¦ā She begins. āYou okay?ā
Jake doesnāt say anything back or tear his gaze away from the window. All he does is move his hand to where Lo placed hers. His grasp is comfortable, as he rubs his thumb over her skin. They stay like that for a few moments, as Jake clearly isnāt in the mood to talk right now.Ā
For the first time, he makes a noise. Even if itās just a heavy sigh, Lo feels more hopeful for a conversation.
āDid you sleep okay?ā Jake finally says, bringing some relief to Lo.
āI slept okay.ā Lo answers. āWouldāve woken up better to your face though.ā
Jake releases a low chuckle, a slight smile arriving on his face for a second. It disappears quickly and he sighs again. āIs that why you came looking for me?ā
Lo moves to sit beside him, finally able to see his eyes. His stare still hasnāt moved from the window. āWhatās so special about outside?ā She asks, moving her eyes to the window as well. All she sees is a wasteland of snow, empty and hollow. One noticeable thing though is that it never seems to end.
āNothing.ā Jake mutters, hanging his head a little. āThatās why I keep looking.ā
Lo tilts her head curiously at his extremely bleak comment. She leans against the wall at the other end of the seat, so sheās opposite Jake. He was right though. Something about the calm snowfall and wintery landscape screamed ordinary and perhaps thatās why Jake was so drawn to it. Nothing in their lives had been ordinary since they arrived on this island and the escape back to that normality was something they all longed for.
āItās all my fault, Lo.ā Jake suddenly mumbles, his tone completely defeated. āLundgren found me. Somehow. I have no idea how but he did.ā He hangs his head further down and his shoulders are tempted to fall with him.
Instinctively, Lo shifts closer to him, wanting to comfort him as best she could. āItās not your fault. I think Rourke mightāve alerted him.ā Of course Lo doesnāt know that but sheāll say anything to stop Jake from blaming himself.
āYou say that but you donāt know.ā Itās like he can read her thoughts. With that, he fixes his gaze on Lo, letting her finally see his eyes. āAll of it is just insane. I finally tell you all about my past and it instantly comes back to bite me.ā Jakeās words are laced with hurt and Lo can tell heās trying his best to hide it. āMaybe they wouldāve come earlier if I told you any sooner.ā
At his words, Lo feels a tinge of guilt, since heād already told her about his past much before all this. Would telling him that make him feel better or worse? She canāt decide.
āJakeā¦ā Thatās all she manages to say, while she fights with her own brain.Ā
Jake notices her indecisive expression and simply raises an eyebrow at her. āWhat?ā
Realising the hole sheād already dug for herself, Lo relents. āYou did. You told me about it before.ā
Confused, Jake scans his girlfriendās face, trying to figure out what she means. āI did?ā
āRemember the first night we got together?ā Lo mutters, causing Jake to release a breathy laugh. For a moment, she swears she could see him smile.
āOf course,ā is all he responds with, taking her hand in his.
Lo blushes slightly at the tender contact, feeling more confident in continuing. āYou told me about your past. All of it. Then, all the shit happened with Vaaryn.ā Her expression begins to fall. āThat necklace took me back to where I wanted to be, but it was before that conversation so you donāt remember it.ā
āAh.ā Jake lets out, dropping her hand in the process and moving his own behind his head.Ā
Slightly saddened by the removal of his touch, Lo hesitantly continues. āI didnāt want to tell you that I knew out of respect for you. āFigured you wouldāve told me again when you felt ready.ā She sighs, realising thatās not what he did.
āI was going to.ā Jake confirms, moving his hands from his head and placing them on his knees. āBut there was never really a good time. With Diego getting kidnapped. The Vaanti and all that stupid bullshit. Didnāt want to add any more onto your plate.ā
He hangs his head again, looking more defeated by the second. Lo shifted closer to him once again, tilting his chin with her finger so his eyes meet hers. She could tell he was growing tired of it all, even if his demeanour appeared strong and prepared in most of the danger theyād experienced. This was different. This was the first time sheād seen his eyes so full of dread.
āWe both had our reasons then, I guess.ā She tries to joke but it doesnāt really come out like one. Her tone starts to become just as shaky as his. However, Jake does let out a small chuckle.
āYeah. Weāre both trying.ā Jake smiles again and this time itās genuine. āI can promise you one thing though, Princess.āĀ
āWhatās that?ā Lo asks, smiling back at him.
āLundgrenās not gonna touch you. I swear on that.ā Jakeās gaze becomes serious and full of intent. āNo oneās dying on my watch.ā He cups Loās face and grazes his thumb over her cheek.
āNo one.ā Lo repeats his words, implying for him to stay away from his own demise too. āWeāre not losing anyone.ā She states sternly, pointing a finger on his chest.
As a reaction, he lets out a low chuckle. āOkay. I get it. Youāre not over me attempting to sacrifice myself.ā
Lo moves her hands to his neck and begins to stroke the bottom of his hair. āI donāt know what you mean. Of course I want everyone to live.ā She arches her eyebrows at him, making sure sheās coming off direct. āYou hear me?ā
Smile growing wider, Jake wraps his hands around her waist. āYes. I hear you.ā He states back, pulling her in for a meaningful kiss.

Right now, I can't find a reason to keep Raj or Grace in the story. And i'm struggling with Quinn and Diego but I really don't want to get rid of them. My version is changing a lot of the story so it's hard to fit them in.
To be honest, Grace just lifts right out⦠the writing did her dirty. The fact that itās optional for her to be present for the first part of Book 2 AND her being absent for half of Book 3 makes me really angry. Girl deserved better!
It is a whole lot of characters to juggle⦠Iām really interesting in seeing how you re-spin the story and manage them all! But please leave Diego in. Pretty please.
I've been trying to give Diego more to do with the Vaanti and Lo (My MC) so he fits in more. I'm sure it'll work out. And yeah, Grace's whole character arc came down to Aleister in the end and she was never really given depth. She could help his character arc I guess but there's no point keeping her if she's not really her own character, since Aleister's arc could always be helped by others like Estela :)
Grace definitely has her own character arc that gets shafted (the anger thatās fueled by the tense relationship with her mom), so Iād argue against the idea that a Black female character exists only to be the love interest of a white male character. Cause itās not like the parts of her personality or actions that arenāt not linked to her romance to Aleister (which are a LOT) go away just because PB decided to stop exploring them to the conclusion she deserved.
In that vein, axing her from the narrative and Raj could be a dangerous choice, since they are two of our central characters of color who are not love interests and whose roles are more emotion-driven than action-driven. Those type of characters are often seen as being less worthy/important in narratives across fandoms due to many biases, which Iām not saying is your reasoning! Itād just be something to consider, especially when Mike is going to remain rather than either of them.
Diegoās role Iād argue is massively central to ESās narrative too, but like Raj, he is mostly the heart to the otherās head/body. The thing about ES is that even though itās very much an island action mystery adventure, one of the most important facets of the story is the relationships you build with and between the other characters. ļæ¼Grace is able to crack Aleisterās armor because he already has an attraction to her thatās based on respect for her brilliant mind; though someone else in the cast could of course break through with time and effort, no one else can serve that role the same way Grace can.
I could go on further about Raj and Diego as well, but ultimately itās your story, so this is 100% not meant to be a mandate or even a condemnation! Just a bit of a reminder of how the way PB has treated these characters of colors in comparison to the white/lighter characters is racist in origin, so itās something to consider to make sure our narrative choices donāt accidentally perpetuate the same.
Hi. Thank you for bringing up these points. Iām always open to discussions like this one and I hope I can answer all of your points in this. My story is currently in very early stages and itās a complete rewrite of Endless Summer that takes place within the first timeline (as of right now, anyway). Iām adding my own plot points and taking away some of the elements that PB included. I made this post a month ago when I was figuring out which characters would fit into the story better, as I didnāt know if I could juggle all 12 of them in one book. Since then, Iāve been constructing character studies, seeing how they could serve the story of the island as well as their own arcs (if that makes sense).
Grace is someone I want to do better than PB did. At first, Iāll be honest I really didnāt know what to do with her. I really liked her in the books and wanted to keep her in. She was always interesting to me because she did develop over the three books, especially the second book. Her confidence builds over the course of the story and she uses her intelligence and strengths to keep her friends alive. In book 3, there is definitely a point where she becomes static in a way, excluding her Ember of Hope scene as that is obviously focused on her character. Everybody gets their moments of course but iāve always wished Grace got more. Donāt really want to spoil much but Iām about 3/4 finished with her character study and Iāve built some more interesting relationship dynamic ideas for her and found a way to make her more integral to the story. I want all the characters to have a fixed purpose in the story and try to give them all satisfying and individual endings, which is something iāve always had a problem with what PB did. Thatās why I left her out of the poll since Iāve already decided to give her a stronger storyline. And I agree that Grace is important for Aleisterās character too and I want them both to be better characters, especially since Aleister serves more of an anti-hero role then he already did in my version. Hope that clears up some of my thoughts about Grace. If not, feel free to let me know :)
Diego is staying in the story. I was never going to remove him. Heās too important for characters like Lo (MC), Vaaryn and his individual arc, within the island and himself, is something I can work with very easily. An idea iāve been exploring is the dynamic between Diego and Raj. I really like it in the books and I want to do something with it, not really sure what yet though. Raj is still a tricky one for me. He is arguably the heart of the entire group and I donāt want to take him out of the story. He is integral for the groupsā relationships and that I was never in doubt about. Itās more what he does for the plot points about the island specifically, since my story is very focused on the state of the island for when it takes place. No one is axed yet and I donāt want to remove anyone. Eventually, I will find a way to build on every character and I think it will be much easier for me when I start Rajās character study.
I have already completed drafts for Lo, Sean, Craig, Aleister, Jake, Estela and Zahra. I know their arcs and their endings and so far, Iām happy with them (may be subject to change tho cuz im indecisive). Iām currently in the middle of working on Grace, Michelle and Mike. The extracts Iāve written have been very focused on the completed ones and they will be posted soon. Pretty soon after I will start writing and posting scenes for Grace, Michelle and Mike.
Sorry this is so long but I hope this was an alright response. I really appreciate this feedback. I donāt want to write a book that just falls into the traps that PB fell into. I want to elevate the story the best I can. Thank you :)
idk how many people will answer this but iām gonna post it anyway. which endless summer character do you believe most deserved better? iām just testing who fans of the books want to see stronger storylines for.
iāve selected specific ones for a reason and cuz i cant fit all of them in.

Sean
Michelle
Jake
