Has anyone discussed what Kristen Applebees's knee jerk reaction to Kipperlily Copperkettle implies about her (Kristen) internal life regarding Riz and Adaine? Obviously she's less hostile with her friends who are constantly actively showing her they're on her side and wanting to support her, but the insecurity and fear and comparison must live with her in some way. Still reeling over Judith (as far as we know) never listening to Jaseâs portions of the record, but putting that on pause to wonder if Jase felt like he met Judith more in doing the questions or listening to all of the record (from the time they were together not just the last time doing the questions). All of those private moments of Judithâs perspective or what was important for her to capture, how much she tried and how she authentically engaged in their relationship. Thatâs Judith.
I see a lot of asexual people on tumblr casually mentioning how they've been talked into having sex, despite finding it kinda boring or unpleasant; or how they've had to "meet in the middle" and "compromise" with an allo partner; or how they aren't that into sex but they really don't mind and they just do it for their partner. things like that.
so hey. guys. while aces CAN in fact have sex, and that stuff can be okay in context, I really want us to also NOT normalize the idea of just having sex for someone else's sake. a lot of acespec people have complicated relationships with sexual attraction and desire, and I think that can sometimes make it hard to tell what's part of the experience of you being ace, and what's actually *not* okay to be experiencing in a relationship. so let me just say, you should only be having sex if YOU GENUINELY WANT TO. if you're having sex because you feel like you have to for some external reason, or because you can't say no without there being a consequence in your relationship or your life, that is *not consent.* it's not consent unless it's freely given. like, let's be clear, sexual abuse isn't always physically violent. sexual *coercion* is a thing, when people are manipulated or pressured into "consenting" to have sex with someone, and it can be seriously traumatizing. so yeah. having sex when you don't feel like it isn't a compromise you just "have" to make because you're ace. allosexual people don't "have" to have sex in their relationships. and allosexual people's feelings aren't more important than asexual people's bodily autonomy.
This feels like a fitting convo to add this breakdown, which I first saw in the book Ace by Angela Chen. In her words, this model âexpands the âyes means yesâ sloganâ

The way Judith wants to actually open up a conversation about something and face it, but Jase becomes like her parents- shutting her down and writing her off. He doesn't try to cover up and re-write the narrative, but he refuses to meaningfully engage (the way he smacks on rudimentary labels to cut her off mimics her parents' tendencies to falsify narratives/create doubt but idk they don't feel exactly the same to me)

(Theyâre on their same journey heâs just going through it years after her and we get to see them BOTH and they have to deal with the other being in a different part of the journey but they see remnants of themselves and only they can really understand what the other is going through and rahhh)

Rewatching You on Netflix, and now that I've basically memorized the podcast 36 Questions, here are Some Similarities I can't help but notice:
Couple meets and falls in love, but one of them is lying about their name
Wife comes from a rich fix-it family which she's trying to distance herself from
"Henry"
Couple splits in act iii bc they're too similar and keep running into the same problems with each other
Henry's dad can't get over his ex(es)
The âHow do I let you go?â/âI think you just⌠live,â interaction from 36 Questions rewrote my brain chemistry in a way I think [people i know] could really benefit from.
The way it encapsulates Jaseâs holding onto both love and anger, Judithâs bittersweet-ness of âitâs not all okay but Iâm okay, and that can be enough for whatever is now or next,â that they both kept hurting each other at different points bc of who they are for better or worse so they were both victims and both perpetrators, how at the end of the day it really is on us to try and fill our lives with other things even if we donât have resolution and thatâs sometimes the only way to move on, maybe we move on together maybe we move on with just how we left each other, rahhhh I love this show
