Incoming Protoss Rant
So there are a lot of things I see in the fandom that make little sense like people forgetting that their brains are in their crest and damaged/removal of said crest will also cause damage/removal of their brain, or how people completely butcher Alarakâs character and have him do and tolerate things that he would never ever do. But one thing that bugs me the most is how people decide how Protoss aging works.
Yes, Protoss live to be 1,000 years old but it makes no fucking sense when people are like âMY PROTOSS OC IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A 6 YEAR OLD CAUSE HEâS 60 YEARS OLD!â
Like NO, THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS. Like seriously, A highly advanced species like Protoss arenât going to be an infant for 30 years and mature as a child for 200 years. That makes absolutely zero sense and I do not understand why people think thatâs okay.
If anything a Protoss grows faster than a human. Just because they live longer doesnât mean theyâre babies longer. I seriously donât understand why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
âor how people completely butcher Alarakâs character and have him do and tolerate things that he would never ever do. â
What pisses me off is when protoss are drawn with nipples and/or breasts. DO THOSE PEOPLE EVEN KNOW WHAT NIPPLES AND BREASTS ARE FOR?!! Ehem, anyway. I actually do think that protoss mature slower than humans, though DEFINITELY NOT for 200 years, thatâs stupid. I think they mature slower because 1) they have more advanced and powerful brains that need more time to fully develop; 2) if they matured fast, losing Aiur would not have meant such a blow to their numbers, especially to their military numbers - but it is a big point that âonly a few of them leftâ; 3) come ooon, have some biological obstacle for them: they are better than any other sentient species, at least have them take care of their young longer! Iâd put their mature rate twice as slow as humansâ? Maybe? But definitely not 200-300 years, yeah.
Oh I loathe when people put breasts and such on them. Theyâre not mammals and they have no biological use for them seeing as they donât eat lol
But I do need to disagree about their aging. The reason their numbers were so low and couldnât easily rebuild is because they arenât a prolific race. Before the end war they were declining in numbers simply because of old age and they werenât reproducing.
I can accept that maybe they can grow a bit slower but I canât imagine they would have the mentality of a child for so long.Â
I just do the x10 because itâs easy; but obviously age is a wibbly thing and whatâs important is that my OC is equivalent to a six year old physically/emotionally, not their exact age being 60 or whatever. Being a helpless infant for 30 years is pretty odd/awful, but itâs still not super clear how protoss aging works, and social creatures can get away with extended childhoods.
But protoss boobs are the ENEMY and will be DESTROYED ON SIGHT
Gotta agree with Tricky up there: Protoss are canonically not prolific and it takes centuries for a single protoss to be raised and trained to fighting age. Tassadar was the youngest High Templar on record, and Artanis is considered not much more than a child, age wise. A protoss is not going to be a helpless infant for 30 years, but it sure as hell isn't going to be anywhere near adult.
And yes, ugh. Anyone who knows me knows that I detest the boobs with every fiber of my being. Protoss have become three next gen sexy space elves and I HATE it. It makes no sense, it looks stupid, and there's no need to add human sex appeal to literal extraterrestrial beings, especially ones that looked NOTHING like that to begin with.
Know your knives.
Oh, delightful! Are we discussing blades, now? Let me join.
Clip point blades are excellent for detail work, but on a protossâ thick hide, they make for a poor choice, so I use these for the lesser species. They are, however, excellent stabbing weapons. The style seems unpopular with psionic blades, however.
Drop point blades are better for firstborn, but lesser for fighting with. They are useful for more vigorous sessions, where a more delicate knife might snap under the pressure. I have not lost a tip on a metal one yet, which is more than can be said for some designs.
The tanto point makes metal blades strong, but I find them less useful for killing and for torture than other options on this list. I have never seen this style in a psionic blade, but those do not conform to the same rules as metal blades. Perhaps the purifier faction utilizes these?
Spear points are for killing, and thus a usual configuration of a psionic blade. I do not use these for torture, as there are better designs. But to deal death, they do perfectly well.
The trailing point blade makes for a lovely slashing weapon, and is particularly useful for the case or cape flay. The latter is what makes it my personal favorite. I have not managed to find a set of psionic blades with this configuration, but the hunt is still ongoing.Â
The hawksbill knife works well for splitting and removing fingers, nerve cords, or other such parts. I would not kill with one, personally, but it has its uses in the tool box. It looks rather ugly, in my personal opinion, which is a shame.
When using a metal blade rather than a psionic one, the straight backed blade allows for more control over pressure, which is a boon when working with a more insensitive subject. Due to how the pressure is controlled, I would never use the design in a psionic blade. It is highly amusing to see amateurs and idiots utilize the design in their own psionic blades.
For beginners in torture, the sheepsfoot blade is the first flaying knife provided, to ensure that the subject is not ruined by clumsiness, since you cannot stab with one, only slice. I still use mine for smaller subjects, or ones which are particularly delicate or mobile. Some eschew this blade out of vanity, which is their loss.
The wharncliffe blade is another option for beginners. It is highly difficult to accidentally self-injure when using this blade, but I find that a mobile or delicate subject can accidentally terminate itself when this blade is in use. For physically robust but psychologically delicate subjects, however⌠Oh, it has its uses.
Ah, the needle point. Another killer, and hence another popular design for psionic blades. These are the blades the Highlord uses to reach the hearts of his warriors.
A pen knife is good for carving designs onto the hide. That technique does not personally appeal to me, but I understand the use. Torture is as much an art as it is a science.
The spey blade shown here is much smaller than mine, which I use for dorsal or open flaying. While I prefer my trailing point, the spey blade has its uses as well. It is a shame it looks so harmless in this picture.
But, of course, everyone should already know this. It ought to be the first thing a child learns.
One of my boys, who is remaining anonymous, would like to point out that clip points are excellent for the more tender skin around the eyes when flaying someone's face.

âIâm a hunter. I possess a sense of smell far greater than most civilians... and that REEKS.
âIâm going to kill you.â
I want a story about a king whose son is prophesied to kill him so the king is like âwhatever what am I supposed to do, kill my own kid wtf is wrong with youâ so he just raises him as normal, doesnât even tell him about the prophecy, and instead of some convoluted twist of events that leads to the kingâs murder the son grows up and when the king is very old and dying and in excruciating pain the kid is just like alright I'mma put him out of his misery.
The kingâs son becomes the new king, and is prophesied to defeat evil and bring an age of prosperity. His generals and knights all crack their knuckles but he pretty much ignores them and focuses on strengthening the infrastructure of his kingdom. Forty years later he is old and sick but still hearing his subjectsâ grievances, and a generalâs like âhow will you defeat the prophesied evil now? Youâre old and weak.â Another visitor, a teenager fresh out of the kingdomâs public education system, looks at the general like he is an ignoramus. The king eradicated poverty, housed the homeless, taught the ignorant, ended class exploitation by abolishing the nobility and imprisoning the corrupt, and established a highly respected guild of doctors that recently figured out how to cure the plague. There are no brigands because there is enough wealth for everyone to live comfortably; hiding in the woods and taking trinkets from people simply doesnât make any sense for anyone but the desperate, and the people are not desperate. Evil is a weed, explains the teenager. It grows in cracked roads and crumbling houses and forgotten corners, rooted in indifference and watered by suffering. But the king demands that broken things be mended and suffering people be made well.
No evil lives in this kingdom, says the teenager. It starved to death before I was born.
Every once in a while, when Iâm feeling down, I go and look at the notes on this post and they make me feel a lot better. This is the energy I want to carry into 2018.
literally one of my favorite romance tropes of all time is character a is a really notorious gang leader/well known feared ruler of some kind etc and no one dares cross them or talk back to them etc because they wonât make it out alive but character b can literally get away with saying whatever they want and everyone knows itâs because they have character a wrapped around their finger and character a is gentle with character b and everyone wouldnât dare laying a finger on character b because then character a would literally chop their head off

2 for Sokira, 7 for Dulce, 10 for Zadira, 14 for Sabaja, 20 for Kalidar, 22 for Urozhai, 32 for Zakk'uur, 37 for Scholar, 39 for Juju Bee, and 41 for Miaka?
Sokira â2: How easy is it for your character to laugh?
Easier and easier. For a while, as she was traveling around afterthe fall of Aiur, she was often too worried and traumatized to laugh, but her sonis a ball of energy and his antics forced her to stay in the present more andmore. Ever since she found her way back to Aiur she has relaxed, and her soft, delighted laughter dances among those close to her more often than not.
Dulce â 7:What triggers nostalgia, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?
The only thing that would trigger massive nostalgia would be beingin the presence of humans, which he isnât anymore. He probably wouldnât enjoyit, seeing as the body heâs grown accustomed to apparently had some veryaggressive tendencies, and likely would feel violent towards them. Other thanthat, his experiences now are so alien and separate from being human that eventhe memories of such a time are distant and separate from him, as if they happenedto someone else. He is, effectively, an entirely different person now.
Zadira â10: What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
âNo, I have no children.â And no, it doesnât.
Sabaja â14: What animal do they fear most?
Those vicious ones Alarak keeps forcing him to fight. Which isevery vicious animal he comes across. Heâll eventually work him up to fightingzerg, and then of course Sabaja will fear them too. Until he learns how toobliterate them.
Kalidar â20: If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonicor familial love, how would they do so?
He wouldnât be able to. There is no difference in his mind. Bothtypes of relationships include the same exact interactions, whether it besocial, physical, or sexual.
Urozhai â22: How does jealousy manifest itself in them(they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?Â
Urozhai is very possessive of things he deems to belong to him. Thestation he lived in. The woman who smoothed things over for him with the restof the terrans. The plants â any plants. Polaris. He gets jealous, grumpy, andglowers angrily when things donât go his way. He also has a tendency to wrappeople and things that are âhisâ in vines so they canât leave or be taken away.
Zakkâuur â32: Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?
The time he tossed a grenade at Immardarâs employer was prettyfunny. He likes telling that one. Or maybe the time he threw a chair through aglass window (seriously who makes windows out of glass these days?) and ducked,so that the guards thought it was Immardar who threw it and left him to deal withthe aftermath.
Or maybe the time he fucked a Blood Hunter to the brink and thenstopped before she came, stole all her stuff, and vanished before she couldretaliate. THATâS a good one.
Scholar â37: Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (likeanagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)?
Scholarâs memory is pretty airtight. As long asno one messes with his things (looking at you, MIAKA) he can remember exactlywhere everything in his study is at any point in time. For things outside hisstudy he relies on the experience of the memory (the smell, what he wasthinking at the time, etc). For very long lists of things he will usually putthem in an alphabetical order and be able to memorize them that way. Scholarhas been studying for a very long time and knows a lot of the tricks for thetrade.
Juju Bee â 39: How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people?
Sheâs still figuring things out and where shestands in the world, but sheâs pretty forgiving of a lot of things. Despite thecrap she went through, sheâs trying on a fresh start, and part of that freshstart is forgiveness, if only so that she doesnât dwell in the past and destroyherself â she sees Kalidar doing exactly that and is determined not only to notbecome him, but to drag him out of that pit as well. She wonât ignore flaws; she has to be sure peopleare safe and if there are warning bells going off when around them sheâll bequick to get away. But if thereâs an explanation sheâll be good with it.
Miaka â41: How do they feel about children?
It⌠changes. Miaka knew he would never have kids of his own, because his own childhood was so strange and he wouldnât want to put anothergeneration through that, but he doesnât dislike them.
Of course, at the moment he doesnât really have a choice.
