A few tropes I've encountered that make me want to send all yall to a class on healthy relationships:
Makes rude or manipulative comments when Shane talks to/hangs out with friends or others? 🚩🚩🚩
Gets upset over the fact that Shane slept with others when they weren't together? 🚩🚩🚩
Gets angry over casual touches of others or harmless flirting? 🚩🚩🚩
Gets angry over sharing Shane's time with others? 🚩🚩🚩
Threatening people who do or have had romantic interest in Shane? 🚩🚩🚩🚩x♾ YIKES.
Stepping in to push people away from touching or being friendly with Shane instead of letting him decide and choose for himself? 🚩🚩🚩
Shaming Shane for looking at porn or other sexual materials? 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
And that's the tip of the iceberg. Controlling to your partner (outside the bedroom) is not hot. Jealousy is not hot. Extreme possessiveness is not hot. They are abusive. Stop fucking making Ilya an abusive lunatic. It's not cool.
And do I even need to say that these tropes are pretty linked to Russophobia??? Cause they are, and that's not cute either.
I know it might sound petty, but I CANNOT read fanfics where the author doesn't use correct punctuation. I just can't. And I'm not talking about mistakes, that's fine, that happens, I mean that as soon as it becomes clear that the author doesn't know or just doesn't bother using correct punctuation, I'm out. Even if the story is terrific.
Example:
"Come here" he called. "I'm waiting for you"
"Yeah coming" he hurried into the other room. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just missed you"
...
Nope. I'm hitting back right away. Wish I could look past it, but my brain just revolts. Am I weirdo? Dunno, but that's my brain.
I think Shane was a character who, soon as I read him, made all the sense to me. I felt immediately a kinship and an ownership over Shane. I was like, “I need to be the only person to tell this story. I get it. I want to be the person to be Shane and I want to spend time with him.” [x]
