So I apologize for how Owen heavy this blog has become recently but also I’m not sorry because it’s my blog and Owen’s my guy.
So in New History of the DC universe, Mark Waid recanonized Meloni Thawne as Owen’s mom. If I’m remembering correctly during the new 52/rebirth era his mom was said to be some unknown woman. It being back to Meloni is just really interesting to me when you look at what wasn’t acknowledged in the book.
Like yeah let’s include this kinda off the wall maternal connection for Owen that hasn’t ever been actually developed or utilized outside of Digger saying that the Rogues would kill Owen if they found out who his mom was. But we won’t include the original silver age lineup of the Rogues. Like guys please Roscoe is a crucial part of the original Rogues and is crucial to Lisa’s development. We can’t keep erasing certain pre-flashpoint things but re-canonize others. It’s convoluted and frustrating to me personally.
I bring this all up because maybe that means one day we could have pre-boot Owen Mercer back. Maybe we can have a cool Bart and Owen team-up like I’ve always dreamed of. Who knows, but I do think a new impulse series would be a lot of fun!
