Ruth couldn’t help but chuckle at Ezra’s confession, “God, don’t you have it so. hard? And here I was thinking I would actually be worth the cash and I might actually be underestimating my value but no - you’re the desperate one.”

“This is gonna come across as me being a tad desperate, but I’ve arranged this charity silent auction dinner to fundraise for a community youth center. Long story short, I don’t know how well my ego would take it if no one bid for the ‘Dinner  Date with Junior Partner, Ruth Flores’, so if I send you the link and you see no one else has bid on it, will you put in $50? I’ll totally pay you back.”

mickey all but skipped to the car hand in hand with angel, free hand coming to cover her mouth as she attempted ( and FAILED ) not to crack another smile. the dramatics to deliver her to the passenger’s seat of the convertible were SILLY, but APPRECIATED, and she found herself giggling softly once seated. she’d missed little things like this.

❝  aaaaand… ?? ❞   she repeated in the time he took to pause between words, the news that followed only exciting her more.

❝  ME ?? in charge’a th’RADIO ?? ❞  what a PRIVILEGE !!

his request to know what she had been up to lately is met with the tiniest shrug of one shoulder. it HAD been quite sometime, but, had she anything to show for all of that time. legs crossed as she appeared to really ponder the question. tried to pull any significant happening from her memory.

❝  ‘s been a long time, yeah, i… ‘ve been workin’, really. two jobs goin’ f’me..OH !! ❞  suddenly she sat straight, turning to him with the same excitement she had expressed about their trip.  ❝  we pu’ on a musical at th’school i work at - big hit. never saw kids so excited abou’ stage shows. ❞  she informed, beaming with pride that her project had gone well without much issue.

she’d lit him up now. angel’s eyes were squished with how much that made his smile grow, how his cheeks pushed up at his lower lids. and not only from the adoration he always held for kids (which had always been potent in its pull on him) , but from how clearly Mickey seemed to have gotten a kick from it as well. seeing her happy was a far more personal joy for him, and it tickled him pink to see the  p r i d e  that was exuding from her from it.

❝  aw man, wait but does that mean I missed out on it? you were out here runnin’ baby broadway and I couldn’t even catch a show? ❞  

by then the wind had picked up from their speed, working a pleasant breeze that accompanied the spring weather perfectly for a ride like theirs and sending their hair in gentle flutters behind them,

the moment he chose to ponder her question didn’t make her very NERVOUS, she could almost tell that, no matter the outcome, they would be getting their froyo. despite this, she waited patiently as if there really was a chance he would say no, hands finding one another and clasping in front of her.

when he pulled his keys from his pocket, her grin returned, and she bounced a bit where she stood. it was as if she were a child. outings had become rare for her these days - she was simply so BUSY. this was more than exciting.

❝  psh, y’know i do !! ❞

With his teeth poking out of his chipmunk’s smile, Angel rushed to take Mickey’s hand, hurrying with her to the passenger’s side of his convertible, and opening the door for her in an overly-ornate fashion: bowing as he let her in, and chuckling to himself.

“Oh, and, aaaaaand,” he said again, only once he was seated behind the steering wheel, “Because I love you so much, and know you have killer taste and everything: I’ll let you be in charge of the radio.”

the word left in varying pitches, ACCENTUATING the exclamation as if the name had slipped down a SLIDE, shooting up and out off a curved end. accompanying this excitement was a GRIN that replaced former neutrality of her face.

❝  tha’ IS the best idea in th’world !! c’n we really go like righ’ NOW ?? ❞

“...well...”

For a moment, just for the sake of teasing, Angel feigned a moment of second-guessing the offer. Lips pursed, and shoulders drawing upward into a shrug, he gave a pensive look to the sky. He gave the performance less than a handful of seconds to toy with her, though. It was all it took for his hand to sneak into his back pocket, and to reappear once more with his car keys now dangling from his fingers.

 Angel gasped, letting his mouth hang even after it had passed out of sound.

“I got it. I got like the best idea in the world, Mickey, I’m not even joking,” he said, staring as intensely as he could.
