In hope we see some more in Generation 5.

While the representation was minimal, it’s also expected from a childrens network like Hasbro, sadly. Hopefully, times have changed, and it’ll be less ham-fisted in g5.

Below the cut is a record of everything I could find, with some images. (Not all, because that would be a very long post.). Includes couples and gender identity.

Let me explain:

Conventionally, Twilight’s clearly the most knowledgable and scientifically gifted member of the Mane 6, and we will always stan her for it. However, there’s something about Pinkie Pie that makes me believe that she’s secretly INSANELY intelligent.

She’s the party pony of Ponyville, and she’s also the Element of Laughter, so her intelligence is constantly overshadowed by her comedy and flamboyance. I adore Pinkie’s crazy character, but watching the show and movies back makes you realise how many genius moments Pinkie’s really had.

Exhibit A. She’s logical

MLP.FIM showed us from the very beginning just how logical this crazy pony can be. “Friendship is Magic Pt. 2” displayed Pinkie’s logical side right off the hoof when she immediately found one of Twilight’s books in the library. Despite spending the majority of her life inside of libraries, Twilight didn’t think to search under “E” for “Elements of Harmony”. Pinkie, however, knew exactly where to look for it within seconds of Twilight mentioning the Elements.

Also, this moment from “Reflections” really caught my eye. Twilight, the alicorn, couldn’t think of a way to escape the dungeon. The immensely gifted, magical alicorn didn’t think to use her own powers to get out of their situation, and Pinkie looked so DONE! No pony else thought to ask Twilight to use her magic, but Pinkie always seems to be one step ahead. Rainbow Dash deadass says to AJ “Sometimes I think she’s the smartest one of us all” too, and Applejack agrees. She’s lowkey brilliant, and they all know it.

Finally, this small scene from Rainbow Rocks is also very intriguing to me. Pinkie is the first pony to realise that the connection between their world and Sunset Shimmer’s can’t be truly cut off if Twilight was able to receive a message in her book, and, again, Twilight herself didn’t think of this logical explanation first.

Exhibit B. She’s an inventor

Pinkie’s made some crazy contraptions in her time, but the craziest thing is that they’ve all worked! She’s creative enough to come up with her inventions, but she’s also clever enough to put them all together. She’ll have had to have blueprinted them, crafted them, wired them etc. She’s fecking clever!

Exhibit C. She’s musically inclined

Pinkie has demonstrated time and time again that she’s got a real talent for music, but it all seems to come out of the blue. I mean, she didn’t even realise she could play the organ in “Castle Mane-ia” until she came across it by chance. She can play multiple instrumentals all at once as she exhibited in “Swarm of the Century”, and she can play them well.

Exhibit D. She understands Twilight’s scientific language.

In Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks, Pinkie Pie displays some severely intelligent behaviour. Firstly, she came up with a logical explanation regarding the connection between their two worlds, but she’s also able to understand Twilight’s highly sophisticated and scientific language. No pony else, including Spike, didn’t have a clue what Twilight was doing with the book and mirror, even when she’d explained it. Pinkie, however, understood Twi’s plan to a T. She’s also intelligent and perceptive enough to explain the plan to the others in a more understandable manner.

Exhibit E. She knows it’s all just a show.

We’ve seen Pinkie Pie breaking the fourth wall in both MLP.FIM and Equestria Girls a hell of a lot, which makes me believe that Pinkie knows and understands that she’s inside of a TV show. Again, this leads back to the whole “she’s logical” aspect of this post. She may act and sound completely insane, but she’s competent enough to fathom that she’s simply a cartoon character on a human’s screen. She knows way too much, and it’s terrifyingly awesome.
