        “no.” it was a knee-jerk reaction, the word falling out of her mouth before she’d even thought about it. “amy promised me when we were five i could officiate if he ever managed to get married.”

with a soft sigh, he curled his arm around her, inviting her in even closer, always. “I don’t think it will, sweetheart, no. it’s nothing to worry about. first sign of trouble, and we’ll have the elves get them home, or one of the kids. there are plenty of us around that they respond perfectly well to, there’s nothing to worry about. it’s going to be a …. perfect day, no matter what happens.” he grinned at her, leaning in to leave another kiss on each of her cheeks. “I promise. a perfect day, no trouble.” at her news, though, amycus was all smiles – as if he weren’t already, how terrifying. “you’re allowed whatever you want, kelebek, it’s your wedding. I like the sound of that, that makes me happy. I wondered who you were going to choose.”

she sighed, he was right, it would all work out. and he deserved to have his babies at their celebration, they were part of the family. but she did hope to replace cat babies with real babies sooner than later. a conversation for another time. “a perfect day --- well it will be, because you’ll be there, and i’ll be there and that’s all we need.” she felt giddy, too happy for it to be real and she still hadn’t told her own family though she was sure the announcement had been posted by now and they must know. neither of her parents had reached out to congratulate her yet and she hadn’t heard hide nor hair of her brother. it wounded her, to know how little they cared for but she could replace that hole in her heart with the love from her friends. “i’d ask bella too but three seems too many, and i want her to be able to enjoy her time at the wedding and not feel like it’s a job or a chore to be there.” she sighed again, a little more sadly. “not that arden or alecto would feel that way but i wasn’t sure if you’d be asking alecto to be a best for you or not. i do hope they both say yes, it would be gutting if they didn’t.” 

                    a   tinge   of   pink   came   over   kseniya’s   features   at   emira’s   comment   ,      she   loathed   to   be   on   the   counter   and   so   for   her   to   be   singled   out   in   such   a   way   …         it   was   an   all   together   new   feeling   for   her   .         ❝      i’ve   not   been   on   the   counter   much   recently   ,      i   do   a   lot   of   the   repairs   and   custom   orders   though   so   i’m   usually   tucked   away   in   the   back   .      just   ask   for   kseniya   and   someone   will   grab   me   ❞         she   knew   emira’s   name   before   she   offered   it   but   she   also   knew   how   much   stock   some   people   held   by   formal   introductions   ,      what   she   didn’t   know   was   where   emira   fell   in   that   regard   .         ❝      oh   amycus   and   i   are   old   friends      ❞         as   much   a   brother   to   her   as   cain   was   in   many   regards   .         ❝      i   know   just   the   sort   of   thing   he’d   like   .      speaking   of   custom   pieces   :      the   one   taking   up   most   of   my   focus   right   now   is   an   order   for   him      ❞

“the secretaries, who else? those nosy birds see everything.” he grinned as he paused, but gus wasted no time leaning in a little further towards emira. “remember I told you the girls suspect rosier and podmore of being a little more partnered up than they claim? apparently, they were spotted out on a date last week.”

“is that the best gossip those girls have gathered? i could have done the same, if i didn’t have a real job to do.” she dismissed the invisible girls with a wave of her hand. “but truly, office gossip can be vicious. have you seen those two canoodling?”

                    as   much   as   she   had   a   way   with   words   sometimes   kseniya   found   herself   struggling   to   do   little   more   than   smile   and   nod   a   little   at   emira’s   words   ,      always   surprised   that   first   time   someone   saw   her   as   more   than   just   the   kid   behind   the   counter   .      but   then   again   given   who   she   was   engaged   to   it   really   shouldn’t   have   been   too   much   of   a   surprise   .         ❝   there’s   always   new   things   coming   in   and   out   of   here   .      being   created   too   ,      but   if   its   exotic   you’re   after   ?      some   things   are   best   kept   away   from   prying   eyes      ❞

bit of an usual place to catch up on her writing, but with the start of the school year approaching and having to keep feeding the death eaters new information, rita hadn’t had time to do her actual job, the one that paid the bills. the lack of sleep only made the noise even more of a bother to her. “excuse me? tone it down, would you? some of us are trying to work here.” 

“my apologies, but there shouldn’t be expectations of quiet or privacy in a public space, lovely. perhaps you’d be better served moving somewhere where that sort of thing is actually expected.”

gus was wearing a grin as he sat back on the bench, arm stretched out over the back, not a care in the world. “no, alright, so I was having lunch with the girls today, and you’re never going to believe what they told me.”

“which girls?” she eyed him suspiciously but not seriously. “ok tell me then, don’t tease gus.”

“i’ve been meaning to ask, but would you be my maid of honor, with arden? i couldn’t choose between you two, you know? so why not have you both?

“that depends,” she says, tilting her head to look at at the other, “do i have a say in the bridesmaids dresses?” she had joked before relenting. “of course, as long as they’re not yellow, they flush out my colour, you know.”
