One thing that constantly goes through my mind is that everything within the temporal world is a copy. Nothing is exactly the first creation. In the transcendent world, however, everything is perfect.
So really, what people should be working towards, is reaching this transcendent reality and becoming enlightened as to what really exists.
The Universe
When I was younger, I was intent on being an astrophysicist. I had an absolute fascination for the stars and planets that surround ours; for the entire galaxies; for the discoveries yet to be made. But then I moved to the city and got wrapped up in what people told me to do. Slowly changed that path to being a doctor. Then one day, I woke up and realized what fascinated me about being an astrophysicist would be that I would have to think in a different way. And then i realized: theology and philosophy satisfy that need for me to think in a different way. To think more highly.
So I continued on this path but with the mundane life of college, sort of lost sight of what I really wanted. Going to school in Kansas is a big deal for me. I can see the stars but I can't see my family. Hell, I'm stuck in my room or the library working for a majority of the time. So I was in a place where I could work for what I wanted but I really was not taking the full advantage that I could.
That was until I drove to Cimarron. A three hour drive at two in the morning put me on a deserted road in the middle of Kansas. Trying to turn on the light inside to find the right CD, I accidentally pressed the button to open my sunroof. For the first time in a very long while, I actually realized the stars were there. I could not help but to look in awe. Driving in the middle of the pitch black countryside and all I could see were stars. It was absolutely breathtaking.
These stars were also very overwhelming. It put into perspective that as people, we are so small. Our mundane problems are not as big as we make them out to be. We are smaller than this world, this galaxy, this universe. We are small; yet we are not useless. For it is us that influences what goes on in this world. It is every little detail that influences the next. There is an ant on the ground that could mean nothing to someone but the world to someone else. That ant affects someone and then that someone affects someone else. That other someone affects someone and then another until the whole world is affected.
We are a chain. We need to stop thinking of ourselves as useless people, for we are of use to someone in someway.
See, it is very intimidating to think that Earth may be the size of a marble in comparison to all that exists. However, we need to see that the small things are just as important as the bigger picture. The smaller things are responsible for the bigger picture existing.
You may be small, but you are important. That's all that matters.
