หยฐโข*โโท โค๏ธ # ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ an independent multimuse โ written by rosemary ;
โ you have snatched the lungs out of my chest & pierced me right through the bones, says archilochos. you have worn me down, grated me away, devoured my flesh, sucked my blood, stolen my reasoning mind. ๐๐๐๐ is expropriation. he robs the body of limbs, substance, integrity, & leaves the lover, essentially, less. ( ... ) โ
หยฐโข*โโท โค๏ธ ๐๐๐๐ โ ๐๐๐๐๐ โ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
โ ( ... ) the poets represent ๐๐๐๐ as an invasion, an illness, an insanity, a wild animal, a natural disaster. his action is to melt, break down, bite into, burn, devour, wear away, whirl around, sting, pierce, wound, poison, suffocate, drag off or grind the lover into a powder. no one can fight ๐๐๐๐ off. โ
Armand let his eyes rest upon the other, briefly falling to her smiling lips. Another beauty - they were quite the pair, it was undeniable. Disruptive, diligent, and desirable. Crashing into his life, crumbling the collective he had so long led. How powerful they were with intermingled, familial blood.
โ I have survived this long. You should worry about yourself. โ Not all are made for this un-life. Armand had seen more throw themselves to the flickering, enticing tongue of flames than endure. An urgency such as Gabrielle's could be as dangerous as it is delightful. โ โ But, if a few centuries pass and you still stand, I will reignite this conversation with you. โ
A truce, to some extent. As close as they may get to one anytime soon. As pleasant as it will be for the current moment. โ And, if you don't. Well... โ
Armand now smiles, small yet telling of his biasedly guided foreknowledge.
A HUM OF AGREEMENT in her throat, gabrielle only too willing to lie the tedious argument aside for the time being. โ i will look forward to that night, then. โ yes, armand had endured a long existence already ; & yet it seemed from her perspective that he had little to show for it beyond mere survival. well, gabrielle had survived for far too long โ now that she was dead, she intended to live.
โ what concerns me more is this night. surely the troupe does not still require these constant rehearsals. โ the thรฉรขtre des vampires had been a clever use for armand & his children of darkness, something to provide purpose now they had abandoned their ill-guided faith & emerged from the cemetery. but gabrielle held little passion for the performing arts, & no desire to sit & watch the inexperienced immortal actors fumble over their dialogue. indeed, she would just as soon abandon the paris coven entirely. but lestat was not yet ready to depart the city โ or his poor doomed beloved violinist โ & gabrielle was not yet ready to leave her son behind.
โ are you pleased to see your children elevated from grave to stage ? โ whether armand truly cares for any of his fellows gabrielle still cannot discern, skilled as he is at veiling his true thoughts even from others of the blood. & she inclines her head, genuine curiosity blended with a teasing faux-deference. โ do you even enjoy the theater, maitre ? โ
๐ช โ gabrielle starter for @immobiliter / daniel ;
ONE UNBLINKING GLASS EYE trains itself onto its subject, the lens mirroring what appears โ at least in rounded miniature reflection โ to be nothing more than human. but the camera misses many things. & gabrielle raps claws as lethal as eagle's talons on the arm of the faux leather chair daniel has seated her in. a roadie leans in, affixes a microphone to the lapel of her faithful khaki jacket ; the scent of warm blood in their throat provides a sudden distraction from the rest of the crew bustling around the darkened set. water everywhere & not a drop to drink. after centuries spent avoiding humans in favor of untouched wilderness โ what little of it remained โ to be so close to so many still overwhelmed gabrielle's senses.
but it simply wouldn't do to make meals of her maker's well-paid entourage. so she sits, drums her nails, & ceases inhaling through her nose until the mortal backs away. another approaches as if to smooth her short-shorn but still unruly flaxen hair with some kind of clear gel, but gabrielle warns them back without words, projecting into their occipital lobe a lurid vision of hand severed from wrist the moment it reaches for her. the blanched & troubled expression the stylist wears as they slink timidly away only makes gabrielle chuckle to herself.
the interviewer, at least, is no more human than the subject itself. & so it is daniel that gabrielle addresses, not the camera, when the red bulb alights to indicate recording has begun. her hand finally falls still. โ i am the vampire gabrielle. my son lestat brought me into the blood in 1794 when my mortal life ended. i was the first of his fledglings. โ a pause, then, โ what more do you want to know ? โ
Lestat's spirit comes from his mother. Nicolas has always known this, but it shows now more than ever. Having been reminded of deaths inevitability, Gabrielle has seemingly chosen stubborn grace. "We are all dying, Madame. Though, I must say, few have done so with such poise." He smiles at her quiet ferocity, back straightening with a semblance of mock pride. He gives a small bow of acquiesce. "As you wish. Forgive me if it sends you to an earlier grave." With that, Nicolas began to play. Long, drawn out notes. Filled with despairing melancholy.
A MOURNFUL WAIL fills the room, young nicolas drawing his bow over the strings hard enough to make them cry out sharply, as if in the instrument itself finds it painful to be under such fervent hands. & gabrielle listens without interruption, watching the boy sway as he plays, her head tilted in the perfect image of quiet assessment. his talent & passion is clear, despite the utter desolation his music evokes. & when he falls silent some minutes later, the marquise straightens in her chair & allows the ghost of a smile to touch her lips, approval given subtly & silently even as she remarks, โ a funeral hymn ? an appropriate selection for an audience one foot in the grave. โ

some kind lil blog reminders as the new season of tvl airs ;
i'm going to be tagging tvl spoilers / until a week or so after the finale episode.
please don't assume that the events & characterizations we see in the new season will be automatically adopted into my portrayals. i will likely wait until the end, then begin to assess what i want to keep & what i don't, especially regarding gabrielle.
i'm genuinely super excited for the new season, & i have really had a lot of appreciation for the thoughtful ways the writers have diverged from book canon in the past. so while i'm certain i will have nitpicks & things i don't love, i'm also making a conscious effort to just have fun with a new take on a beloved story & not get too salty about the things that i disagree with โ at least on the dash. i will really be doing my best to keep critique & complaints to a minimum. let's just embrace the chaos & have a good time together !
brb getting a "serving cunt has its consequences" tramp stamp
a dull throb still sings its sharp notes behind azure eyes lined in black, the epicenter of the pain deep in lestat's left temple, like a lazy doctor taking his sweet time with the ice pick that will sever his prefrontal cortex -- a procedure he wonders, on the odd occasion, if it were capable of dismissing their many muses from their mind. alas, lestat is not quite so naive, nor is he anywhere near as pliant to lay down in his pit of sorrows & welcome defeat to nestle upon his chest, benevolent beast that it is. should the tooth team -- or any other groups of pesky regionals with a bone to pick -- continue on his trail, he will see to it these young ones are left in the proverbial dust. ashes to ashes, so on & so forth. with his dearest gabrielle beside him once more, there is no force that dare fuck around & find out.
with a focused hand, lestat presses glitter at the tail of his brow bone, down his temple, curving into a crescent across high cheeks. there's never such thing as an excess in glitz, glam, & gore.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โย ย ย ย you, my darling, have a seat reserved just for you โ front and center so that you may keep your eyes properly fixed on my unfolding glory,ย ย ย ย โย ย ย ย meaningful smile lifts their lips while they find gabriell's hand with theirs, wrapping fingers around hers like white ribbons so that he may press a kiss to her knuckles. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โย ย ย ย and, just as well, so that i may easily find you among the pulsing crowd.ย ย ย ย โย ย ย ย
THE TOUCH OF HIS HAND softens its hard exoskeleton, melts through the unseen encasement it wears like armor. centuries later, gabrielle's son is still the single exception to every rule, the only one who is permitted to pass through her protective barriers. the smile that lights lestatโs face is a perfect twin to the one rising on her own. & as he bows to kiss her hand, gabrielle reminds herself that her son had not simply asked her here to see his performance out of a boyish desire to impress. ย
no. lestat had called because he'd needed her. & he still did. whoever had really tried to kill him ( for gabrielle suffered no delusion that the local covens had acted of their own accord โ the thrumming pulse of an ancient force with malevolent intent toward lestat was palpable in the constant cacophony of immortal voices, though gabrielle still could not discern its source ) she knew they would not be dissuaded from the failure in detroit. they would try again. but next time they would have to go through her if they wished to lay their hands on her son.
& there was precious little that gabrielle would not endure if it meant protecting lestat, even the altogether undignified experience of being enveloped in a dense crowd of sweating mortals while being assailed by the shrill whining of electric guitars. โ lucky me, to have such a privileged position. โ & gabrielle turns away from the window to regard her maker's face instead, quite perfect again now that the injuries have retreated beneath the hypodermis. all the glitter is an unnecessary addition, she thinks ; lestat's beauty is extraordinary enough without such gaudy adornment. but this she does not speak aloud ; instead, she asks, โ have you written any songs for me ? โย
๐ช โ gabrielle for @petitebite ( continued ) ;
THE DISCOVERY OF OTHERS had been somewhat of a surprise to gabrielle. in her hubris & naivete the night she'd been awakened to the dark gift, she had initially believed herself & lestat to be alone together, a pair of gods moving unseen through a world of mortals. but then they had met the strange one, armand, & his wretched coven of dirt dwellers. gabrielle would sooner be rid of them all, were it up to her. but lestat sought to liberate the children from their darkness โ his sympathy for others seemingly boundless, even now โ so had taken to spending evenings with armand in an attempt to understand him that he might convince him.
& in the maitre's absence, gabrielle had taken notice of a lovely vampiress, younger of body but with many more nights in the blood than she, with a shock of dark hair that remained lustrous & thick despite the squalor in which she's been made to live. or, more accurately, the raven-haired beauty had taken notice of her.
โ it's not something to be taught. you must learn for yourself. โ there is a curious tilt of her head, a gentle probing into marie's thoughts. there, gabrielle sees armand's face carved into a mask of cool disappointment. โ your coven leader is not here now. you do not have to think of him. โ perhaps it is only further naivete, but gabrielle does not fear armand, & she speaks with a defiance only sharpened by her newfound powers. โ think only of yourself. what do you desire ? blood ? then you must look for it. you must listen for it. โ & gabrielle casts her eyes out over the endless expanse of rooftops, a symphony of mortal hearts beating in the streets below, any one of them ripe for the taking. โ what do you hear ? โ

how long do i let a single muse take over my multi before it becomes silly / annoying for others ? at what point in the hyperfixation journey do i just make gabs a lil solo blog ?
thinking about gabrielle & her schrรถdinger's cloud gift ( from prince lestat )
while obviously i have a lot of nuanced thoughts & feelings about the how the adaptation seems to be portraying the lestat & gabrielle dynamic so far, here is what i think is the common thread that is at the core of what they have going on in both book & show versions :
starting from the premise that gabrielle never wanted kids, but she does love lestat. & of course because she was so traumatized & isolated & he was literally all she had, that love came in the form of intense enmeshment & projection of the idealized self. this was absolutely toxic & staggeringly harmful for lestat. however... i really don't think it was intentional on gabi's part. she didn't mean to fuck him up so badly. & she didn't like... groom him with the intention to eventually victimize him or anything like that. she was just a terrible mother with a ton of her own trauma that she passed right down onto him. & frankly, while lestat did absolutely deserve better, i also can't totally blame gabs for being a bad mom, either, because she never wanted to be one in the first place.
so. after she was turned, gabrielle told herself that she was no longer the human woman she had been before โ therefore she was finally able to be free from all of the expectations placed upon her as a woman & wife & mother. & by extension, that meant that she was free from the need to be a mother to lestat. the rules no longer applied. instead, she could become lestat's partner, his lover, his equal, his other half. she loved this idea, in theory ! she wanted their relationship to become something else. something that was not that of mother & son, but that of two beings who were the same at their core, two monsters in fact, devils wandering in hell together, who share everything together. every sin. immortality, murder, & yes, sex.
( which. as an aside. i have a lot of thoughts & ideas about how gabrielle feels about & interacts with sex & desire. i may discuss it on the dash, at some point, but for now suffice it to say that... i envision her as closer to sex averse than hypersexual. while she is curious about & interested in sex & desire, she is not highly sex motivated overall. & plus, i think she has some very complex preferences & boundaries surrounding sex that result from the fact that her mortal experiences with sex were so incredibly unpleasant & even traumatic. so sex can be a motivating factor for her, but rarely is it a primary one. so. that's one place where i may end up diverging from the show somewhat, depending on what we see. but i digress. )
but unfortunately, as gabs comes to realize... it doesn't totally work like that. even though she wishes nothing more than to be free of the expectations of motherhood, there are still elements of her dynamic with lestat that involve her necessarily taking on a maternal role. he wants her to caretake him, comfort him. she feels the need to protect him. & at the end of the day, no matter how the relationship changes, she's still his mom. she doesn't want to be. she tells herself she isn't his mother any longer. but... she is. & lestat still needs her as his mom, at least sometimes. so as long as she is with lestat, she will always be โ on some level โ his mother.
this reality โ coupled with the slow breaking apart of their enmeshment as it became more & more clear over time that they are not actually the same person in two bodies, that lestat is not a mere reflection of gabrielle, & they actually want very different things โ is what ultimately causes her to realize that their relationship as it exists during that time period in tvl when they are together on the devil's road, is not going to work. she can't be what he wants of her, & he can't stop wanting those things of her.
( which, to be clear. is NORMAL, FAIR, & UNDERSTANDABLE on lestat's part. it is absolutely not fair for gabrielle to expect him to cut up their relationship & leave those foundational parts behind. it is not fair for her to expect him to never need her as his mother again. please do not take any part of this post as me blaming lestat. this whole mess is definitely gabi's fault. i'm just looking at it from her perspective. )
so. since they can't be what the other wants. she has to go. she has to leave him. she has to get space from him so she can learn to just be herself as she is. not as a wife, not as a mom, not as a woman. as gabrielle.
the point being that even though gabrielle ( & maybe lestat, too ) may tell themselves that their human connection was severed upon her turning & they are no longer mother & son in the traditional mortal sense... the reality is that a parental status is immutable. it can't go away. gabrielle birthed him, & their relationship will be forever shaped by that fact, even if they try to ignore it or change it or pretend otherwise.
that upsets her. that makes her sad, confused, even angry. gabrielle never wanted to be lestat's mother, or a mother at all. what she wants is to be able to be companions with lestat as a true equal, but on some level they will always be unequal because she will always be his mother, & there will always be inherent power imbalances, as well as expectations placed on her around that role. there is nothing she could do, including becoming a vampire, to make herself not be his mother anymore. & that is why the relationship can never be what either of them want it to be.
tldr ; gabrielle does not want to be lestat's mother. she may say that she isn't anymore but. she still is. neither she nor lestat have any choice in that fact, no matter what they do. & therein lies the central issue at the core of their relationship. because the truth is that despite the sexual/romantic element of their relationship only being introduced when they are both "consenting" adults & after allegedly leaving the laws & restrictions of human morality behind, it's still incestuous. & that means that the dynamic can never be truly equal. it will always be inherently non-consensual, unequal, & imbalanced. which is why, despite the immense ( if complex ) love they absolutely have for one another, i fear the dynamic will never be healthy or even really sustainable. not as a true companionship.
Such pulchritudinous garments had once been a regular occrence in Armand's life. Of course, he had not been Armand then, but Amadeo. Adorned in rich fabrics and jewels - when his fingers looked as though they had been dipped in gold and not the dirt and rot of the Parisian underground. Days once bright and bountiful, artful and vibrant, ripped from beneath him. Lost so long ago that recollections were rare. No longer possessing the time nor the pleasure to muse on past days. Yet he finds himself back in the streets of Italy, wearing a dark blue, patterned doublet and basking in the day's sun once more.
Armand's eyes move from their transfixed position on the green gown between his fingers towards the figure beside him. Gabi in her handsome garbs, much different from the garments before them. How foreign it feels to imagine her in such pieces. Just as foreign as it is to accept her offer. A rarity to see a common ground in the haziness of their loose companionship. Still, he had not been bedecked in some time. And the pleasing feeling of silk gliding against his skin held a stronger position than any general bias he felt towards the other. He lifted the hem of the dress, returning his attention to the fabric. โ โ I would not be opposed. โ
With a short glance in Gabi's direction, he removes the chosen gown from the lot. Lays it folded over his arm as his fingers run once more against the fabric.
SOMETHING ALMOST CHILDISH moves across the older vampire's expression, temporarily lifting the shadow cast by centuries confined to darkness. & for a fleeting moment, gabrielle sees a vision as if of a past life โ though not her own. armand, eyes darker than they are now & skin aflush with mortal blood, walks through a sun-drenched italy that perhaps gabrielle's great grandmother might have known. & then it is gone, the ageless blood-drinker before her once more. a particularly fine emerald garment is selected & draped over a graceful arm, & gabrielle nods in approval. the color will flatter armand's rich complexion, & the silken material flow over his slender form like water.
a compulsion she cannot name stirs in her chest then, emboldens her hands, & there is no hesitancy left when gabrielle closes the space between their bodies. โ let me, โ she says, & she is not truly asking. the gown is taken from armand, but only to be laid over the chaise lounge to obtain better access to the tie at his throat, which she releases before pulling & lifting the hem of his tunic. it's a tattered thing, the linen stained & fraying, & gabrielle is gentle but insistent as she raises his arms over his head & frees him from it before discarding it to the floor.
โ the rest as well, โ she says, gesturing toward his similarly ragged breeches before returning to the dress & beginning to pull open the laces. it's a process her muscles still know by heart, the work of preparing a gown to be worn. gabrielle has only just escaped from the trappings of humanity, accepting the terms of her immortal existence unequivocally. but perhaps armand has been a child of the darkness for too long. perhaps it would do well to remind him of the simple pleasures of fine things. & besides, he is an undeniable beauty โ the rags & filth she'd found him in do little to hide it โ so gabrielle finds herself only too eager to see him in something more befitting of his lovely reflection.

also in her death / turning scene. the girdle specifically making gabrielle's hemorrhaging worse but like. she can't be seen without itโ even by her son, even by her doctor, even when she is literally dying โ because that would be inappropriate for a lady of her stature. kill me.
