was working on my thesis about heidegger and feeling like a loser. thought, "i wish heidegger hadwritten about being a loser." then I realized, he actually did :) thats 80 percent of the book in fact.
The hack with Religious Studies is to pretend you're a man writing about religion in the 1940s-50s. Make up a lot of your own terms, fudge the details, succumb to whims. The point is fidelity to a larger idea, and not precision... and that large idea should be your personal crackpot theory of the reason why people have gods&rituals

Life craves the goods occurring in the world, and thus turns itself into one of them only to find out that things (res), if compared to life, are of almost sempiternal permanence. Things endure. They will be tomorrow what they are today and what they were yesterday. Only life vanishes from day to day in its rush toward death. Life does not last and it does not remain identical. It is not ever-present and, indeed, is never pre- sent, since it is always not yet or no more. No earthly goods can lend support to life's instability. The future will strip it of all of them and in death it will lose itself along with its acquisitions. True, all worldly goods are good as such, being created by God. It is only a life that clings to them, and will always be deprived of them in the future, that also turns them into changeable mutabilia.

My favorite usage of the genitive case is the partitive genitive :)
I love not having fun. I go to long events and stay for the uncomfortable part and leave for the part where everyone drinks and talks. Why? because I hate having fun
Either I’m stupid or everyone else is stupid
When I go to graduate school I want to use really annoying stationary, like a lot of sparkly pens and notebooks with glitter on them, and I want to use pink highlighters and pens with pink ink, because I love being a girl
going to keep working on my hymn to the Origin of the Work of Art.
O ORIGIN, great art thou, and venerable art thy Vocabularies,
Unknowable knowledge, Unthinkable Thought, mystery of mysteries,
Simplest of riddles, most complicated of poems,
First among Essays, generously gifting to all other Essays their meaning,
Have mercy upon me and grant me a ray of insight…

I got into grad school. Hopefully nothing bad happens like
getting struck by lightning
getting shot by the creepy incel in my seminar
getting hit really hard in the head and becoming stupid
suffocating
burning
offending whatever divine force is watching out for me
it's hard to describe how good it feels to have been working on something really hard for 3 years and then it actually works. how many times does THAT happen in our lives?

sometimes I think that men and women can understand each other but I also know that no man could ever know what it's like to be a 22 year old woman and sit in a seminar about the beguines, taught by a teacher who doesn't understand the beguines, surrounded by male peers who don't understand the beguines, and to have to try to explain how they're wrong, while they all get annoyed at you, and while your uterus is making you feel like you're being compressed beneath a heavy rock. like trying to form a sentence but you're literally gritting your teeth from pain
this isn't about me being smart by the way, it's about men not taking reading the beguines seriously: they want to read them because they know they are cool, but they don't read them closely, and sometimes can't get beyond the weird language, so they make obvious blunders that can be corrected by simply pointing them to the correct passage
I will never be widely liked by my peers in academic settings because I'm a) a woman and b) read very closely with a good memory. the combination means that I am a bitch and always have small "gotcha" moments. These degrade the male ego until it overflows, leading to
men telling me that I can't assume that a nun has read the Bible
men visibly scowling or lowering the iq of the conversation (just saying that I'm wrong with no evidence)
men compulsively and lengthily jerking off their intellects with speeches only tangentially related to the topic
men spouting nonsense monologues trying to defend themselves using billions of empty buzzwords
the problem is i sort of understand because I'm legitimately insufferable.

(Included because I had the idea that perhaps the to-do- list would be negated in its completion but negation is only possible in a Christian context with the invocation of a hyperessential being and I am trying to read Heidegger in a Christian way) (although this is failing and might even be a stupid wish)
The Angela was great, the Mechthild was even better. I found the Wendell Berry quite insightful. I did not have time to re-read my favorite Heidegger essay

god comes to angela to illuminate for her all of her sins, and the first thing god critiques is the way she styles her hair.
