Twisted Wonderland: Overblotting is Generational Trauma
I have a theory about Twisted Wonderland and the Overblot Stages they go through. Disney Descendants should be renamed Disney Off-Springs because the franchise focuses on the kids but if you ask me, the title "Descendants" belongs to Twisted Wonderland! Think about it: Why do they have the statues of Scar, the Queen of Hearts, Maleficent, Hades, The Queen from Snow White, Jafar and Ursula? What is the significance of Overblotting? Overblot is when the Housewardens are taken over by their sins of anger, greed and rage. Black spots of ink are shown, looks similar to the monsters from Epic Mickey in a way. But then, there's the flashbacks to the Disney characters. Which leads me to believe that Overblotting is a metaphor to generational trauma. The statues of Scar, the Queen of Hearts, Maleficent, Hades, The Queen from Snow White, Jafar and Ursula could be in a way to honor the ancestors of these seven villains. But also, Overblotting is a gateway for the Housewardens to go down the same path as their ancestors who were villains and let their hearts turn dark however, an outsider like Yuu managed to break that Overblot curse and save the Housewardens, causing them to redeem themselves. The Housewardens are similar to the villains, who might've went through some traumatic moments from their past causing them to turned to 'the dark side' and became evil.

How My Life Has Been as A Writer
No, I haven't published it yet but I need to get beta readers, querying and find a publisher. A writing agent, and I'm doing it right this time! No need to brag or anything, I got a novel! A frigging novel! :D It's a work in progress right now, but I'm procrastinating because I got a lot going on!

One thing I noticed about twst is the similarities between Sebek and the Egyptian god Sobek. Sobek is an arrogant and aggressive protector god with the head of a crocodile. He also protects Ra, the king of and strongest of the gods, as he travels through the underworld every night. With them both being crocodiles, the similarities in the name, and the slight similarities of their role and temperament, I don’t think it is too much of a stretch to say that Sebek might be inspired by him. Have you noticed anything else in twst that might be inspired by Egyptian mythology?
I do find it interesting that the TWST team took a generic crocodile minion of Maleficent’s and combined it with ideas (potentially) from Egyptian mythology to create Sebek. Very different sources for inspiration, married together beautifully.
Below you’ll see the crocodile minion I’m referring to; it’s holding a halberd, which is the same weapon that Sebek wields in a limited card (Armor of Eternal Night):
I’m not familiar with Egyptian mythology, so I’m afraid I don’t have much to say on this matter 😅 But!! I did notice that Baul (also written as Bal/Baul in the fandom; we won’t know the official spelling until the English localization gets to it), Sebek’s grandpa, is also named after a god that was brought into Egypt from other areas, Baal. More specifically, Baal is said to be the god of storms and thunder. This doesn’t feel like a coincidence considering that Baul is related to Sebek.
I believe Baal is also described to be an aggressive and vigorous warrior, which matches up with Baul’s profile. Sebek is said to get a lot of his personality (and most notably, his stubborn hatred of humans) from his grandfather, so that checks out.
Interestingly, the physical descriptors for Baal could also be considered to mirror Baul’s; long hair and a beard:

How Told by Reem--a YouTuber--Inspired Me to Write my Official Novel!
Let me set the scenario that was the struggle of a writer rising once more but successful this time around! For the past several years, I was trying to experiment a lot of stories I want to write. I went down a route of writing a story based on fanfiction but I didn't edit it, I was desperate and I was already losing my frigging mind! I realized I was one of those people like EL James, Anna Todd, etc. It wasn't a smut fanfiction turned novel, no, it was a novel about portal fantasy with a twist. But then I realized I haven't developed much on minor characters or anything else. I realized, "Damn! I think I need to start over!" I tried and tried but nothing, nada, zip! It felt like all was lost but I didn't want to give up. However, every time I came up with an idea, my brain was rejecting it over and over again. I just wanted a story about a weird girl doing crazy things and she's the most craziest protagonist ever, someone people could relate to but everything sounded overdone, stereotypical and I changed it over and over! I felt completely lost. It wasn't until one day, that's when I start writing again but this is the premise of this new story idea: a girl who is popular however she's secretly a weird, nerdy type of girl but due to her abusive father and evil stepmother controlling her life, it became impossible and she was in an inner circle of shallow, judgmental pretty privilege people that pretended to be her friend however they backstab her. AND SHE SNAPS!
How did I get this idea? I guess it started one month ago in the first few days of May; I watched a YouTuber, toldbyreem, and one of her videos known as Why Are Female Main Characters All Written Like This Now? and there was one thing she mentions of doing something different with the unpopular girl and focus on a popular girl which she says: "Why not try a main female protagonist who is popular but doesn't feel seen by the people around her, she's constantly praised but only because it benefits others and she knows that. The flaw to this she stays in that environment, because she's afraid of losing that status." This one sparked an idea. That sparked the idea, at first I wanted to do a popular girl getting swept up in chaos but I stopped and was like, "What if I wrote a fantasy about a modern day princess but she was controlled by her abusive father and cruel stepmother and she's in a crowd of shallow friends and other folks?" So that's what spark the idea! I was coming up with the first line in my book that I perfected. I realized I need to make it seem like I was writing a chick flick-like novel (Chick Lit, if you will!) but I wanted to surprise my readers with the fact that this isn't your typical chick lit story, this is also a weird girl lit too. A girl who is like other girls but she couldn't find her own place because being in a space that was toxic and not safe for her weird self so she puts on a mask.
During with the process of brainstorming this idea; I saw on a YouTube short of someone showing the satire of chick flick movies in the beginning with some girl waking up to her alarm clock, there's a montage where she acts totally perfect and all that so I was like, "That's it! That's how I want to start off with the story is making it a girly girl chick flick style opening but wait, down the line, it's going to be something surprising for my readers!" That's what I did, it was a long process but that's the important thing as a writer, researching what you don't know and doing it anyway that interests you. That's the beauty of it! The thing I forgot to mention was I'm a discovery writer, not a pantser or plotter. Just a writer who discovers and goes along with whatever goes on in my head. Like I don't do outline because the last time I tried that, I think there was so much and I forgot to add stuff. Not to mention I wasn't satisfied with how the story is going! I had to scrap the whole she-bang and restart but that took a long time! But thanks to toldbyreem's suggestion that sparked this idea of mine, I had it all down. On social media; I used to brag about the story I was writing but every time I told this story, I was unsatisfied but I also learnt that never tell anyone your work until it's ready. That's the important thing as a novelist.
