Imagine this
Imagine Mickey Mouse club house grew up with us in this modern age, where it wasn’t made for kids but definitely PG 13
Imagine Mickey Mouse being a really drained worker at the, ironically and hilariously, Disney corporation. Being a Nepo baby and really wanting to continue his dad’s legacy in the company, he works his heart off in the creative department and making sure that people can wish on a star so the dream can come true, but that doesn’t work out. After insisting to start at the bottom and work hard, he watches as the current heads of the company make his life much harder. Story lines that are too simple and safe, 2D animation being completely thrown out in favor of the easy 3D, deadlines that are impossible to meet, and the over use of live action remakes. Everyday Mickey finds himself more and more burnt out and feeling his creativity being stomped on in favor of money.
Imagine Goofy working in the Disney company to help with animation, to only be pushed all the way back into the janitor position because of his mistakes and clumsiness. Not being able to help with anything and not even small things like making paper copies. He’s forced to watch worker do all the things he dreams to do but he’s forced to hold a broom because he’s too goofy
Imagine Donald Duck working silently in an isolated room checking over the music for movies. Listening alone and by himself as he listens to pop music that doesn’t even match the animation. Being passionate about the music and everything being true, he fought so hard for Encanto to be true to Colombia, represent Colombia, and have the right music and history. Having learned a lot from his beloved friends Panchito and Jose. He fought so hard that his anger issues came out and he exploded. His fighting worked, but he was pushed into an isolated room with no control over the music he’s forced to check, what was he even checking for anyway. He wasn’t sure, everything feels like a mindless purgatory now after fighting so hard to keep something true. Being fired for causing a commotion seemed better than this, he misses talking to actual people
Imagine Oswald the Lucky Rabbit actually using his power as a nepo baby to start at the top and keep things in line. Working his butt off to keep valued workers, help Mickey on the bottom, try to get Goofy involved, get Donald out of that stupid music room, and to stop being safe. Then one morning, he suddenly finds out he’s fired from the job, the job he was supposed to inherit from his dad, and now has to find another mindless job while worrying for his brother and friends in the company
Imagine Julius the cat being uninterested and too old to work in the Disney company. Happily working a small job for himself in freelance and happily being indie. Imagine him watching his brothers come him more tired and drained every day, his brothers were completely different. Julius now seeing AI make his job much harder and making him panic because people are no longer paying for his well crafted knickknacks he works so hard for and reasonably prices. His small yet hard earned business falling down so quickly. Julius nearly losing his income and now fighting robots in art
Imagine all of those toons sneaking out at night into an abandoned building in the city at the end of the day. Creeping into the building and everyone slowly setting everything up. The building they deem the clubhouse. Once the lights turn on, they all cheer, scream, jump, and let out the heavy weight the day had given them. Donald snatching a untuned cello and singing random songs with Panchito and Jose so loudly. Goofy happily helping around and brightens up when every mistake is forgiven instead of deeming him lower. Dancing wildly to the most random of songs and embarrassing Max while laughing along with him. Mickey painting the walls, throwing paint without a care in the world and letting the creativity fly once more with a giant smile, Rembering how to be creative and risky once again. Julius resting his poor hands after using them for so long. Oswald..Oswald is thinking
Imagine Oswald pulling his brothers aside one day, explaining how they have to fight back against what’s happening. Julius agrees, AI is nearly making him lose his beloved crafting job. Oswald saying that the company is turning into another money maker they do not need. Both brothers argue and rant massively about what’s happening, drowning out Mickey. Suddenly, Mickey slams his hands on the table, promising to fight for the company like Oswald said. Promising to bring back experimental creativity, out of this world music, risks, and all with human and toon hands with no robots. He’s a little nervous, working in this environment for so long really did teach him how to be nothing but safe, but he’s empty, so he’s going to learn how to put his foot down and use the power his has to do better and fight.
This is a fight he was not prepared for, the type of fight he ends up learning more about himself when he already thought he knew who he was. He isn’t aware how important creativity and dreams even were to him until the brightest, most unique film was made in secret, he’s in awe. Shedding a tear and remembering how important the arts, music, the sights, the dreams meant to him. Something he forgot before he started to fight.
This was something I thought up and gave me a lot of comfort. When I say I like Disney, I like the old risky Disney, not the new one. To see beloved characters from this old Disney fight for the arts does something to me and brought a lot of comfort in this day and age. It’s supposed to be a fight that they win after a lot of work, but something that keeps me going myself. I hope you enjoy
