Random
Dunno what's triggering it, but I am getting a lot of random Mucha Lucha! thoughts & recollections popping into my head. Maybe it's revisiting and drawing some of the characters for the comic? Then again, maybe it's just age..?
I always like to keep this blog visual, but maybe I'll just write down some thoughts as they come to mind...
Hello eddie!! :D
So uhhh about the short scene of the adults (including mama and lonestar in las vegas), ever since i’ve watched The Return of El Malefico since 2017 (9 years? whoa) i have always thought of something… is it true that the adults (parents, teachers, other adult luchadores that were featured in this particular part) were actually drunk in that particular scene?? :o, i mean, it wasn’t shown explicitly but, I always assumed that they were drunk in that scene because of the animations of each adult (including a cameo of Kid Upandcoming), i imagine what other crazy misadventures the adults did in Las Vegas before battling el malefico hehe. (I pictured the headmistress with a giant beer mug in her hand hahahahahaha)
Also, i’m still looking forward for the upcoming sequel comic!!
Drunk?!? Characters aimed at an impressionable audience and forced to adhere to strict broadcast codes of decency? Heaven forbid!
Actually, as with the last question that was put to me about French Twist, this is a question for someone else: And that person in question is the mighty Ron Hughart who directed El Malefico. WBA didn't get all their hires right, but they absolutely scored by bringing Ron in. Lili and I were happy to take a backseat to him, and he proved to be the most easy-going, respectful and knowledgeable director who was an absolute pleasure to work with. I'm so happy he subsequently had so much success on American dad.
Regarding The Return Of The Return of El Malefico...
It's along haul, progress is slow (life at the moment means I can't spend as much time as I would like at my drawing tablet), but I'm enjoying drawing the characters again, and the challenge of adding something new to Mucha Lucha!
Hi, Eddie! :3 Why did French Twist had a Red Mouth When he uses a lipstick or a makeup? or What's the Origin of French Twist? sooo, i love his design so much :3
Hi there and thanks for you question.
In all honesty that is a question for my co-creator Lili Chin. While we worked in tandem on all of the designs, French Twist was all her. My take is that yes - he uses lipstick to accentuate his mime persona.
I love the design too, and it was very important in the development of Mucha Lucha!, as up until then we (as lucha libre purists) had been keeping the mask designs and personas fairly grounded in the world of professional lucha libre. French Twist was one of the first designs that pushed things outside the box for us in terms of look and character.
As for his origins, I remember the writer of one of the early episodes had come up with a bunch of names for background characters in the classroom, and French Twist was one. There was no description of the character, just a name. In a moment of inspiration Lili took it upon herself to design him as a Marcel Marceau French mime, giving us the character we know today.

Still drawing in Macromedia Flash, still drawing Mucha Lucha!...it's as if the last 20 years never happened :)
The gang are ready...let's push for a positive collective consciousness to make it happen...
Hola Eddie!! I hope you’re having a lucha day as always, soooo i have a question regarding to the character arc around the teachers in the upcoming malefico comic.
Since for a long time I’ve wanted to see some of the characters to have some development, including the teachers (headmistress, hasbeena, midcarda, kurtz, custodio & fundador), and ever since the announcement about the teachers’ development arc i haven’t stopped thinking about it ever since, and I’m very happy about that :D
And I was wondering if the teachers will have a development arc (both in character and personality, since they are the school staff), or an arc that consists of diving deeper into them, for example, such as their interactions with other characters (such as the parents or students) and all that stuff.
Thank you!
All I can say is that they will be featured in the story. As I've mentioned, I have a beginning, middle and end. I know in my head where the characters will be featured, but until I start drawing and reach the stages where I want them involved, it's all just ideas. I don't actually write scripts for projects like this and prefer just to keep building on the original one-sentence-premise idea. I will say though, that they will be 'active' :)
Love, Eddie
Once Upon A Time In Tijuana...
Hello Eddie, hope you have a great lucha day. Tibor the Terrible has a "tattoo" of a heart with an arrow, but I'm wondering who it's dedicated to: his grandmother, a relative, someone he admires, or even Captain Ahab?
Given that they both share a nautical theme, could Captain Ahab be a relative of his, like his grandfather, his father (some fathers are elderly and have children at an "not recommended" age), or an uncle?
I love Ahab. I had a lot of fun designing him. As for the heart, it's a bit of a personal reference. My dad was a sailor and he had this really wonky heart tattoo on his arm that looked like he had done it himself with a rusty nail and some ink :) I figured it was a seafaring initiation thing and as he had no idea what to do, he just decide on a standard heart with an arrow.
As for Ahab and Tito, I think Ahab would be more of a mentor rather than a relative.

From page 9. had to take a break for a couple of days to storyboard a RUDOPOLIS teaser, so unfortunately the comic is a bit of a start/stop affair...
Two characters who are one of my favorite people :) Page 8 of 'El Malefico'.
I caught up with the wonderful Candi Milo yesterday. "Eddie, we need to do Mucha Lucha! again..."
Heya, once again, i hope youre having a lucha day as always.
I have a question, Are there any updates with the upcoming return of the return of el malefico comic? if so, how many characters are gonna be in the comic? (i really hope seeing midcarda, lonestar or mama in there 🙏🏼)
That is all for now.
Thank you. Yes, EVERY day is a lucha day.
The El Malefico comic is ongoing. You may have to be a little patient with me as I am working with Osteoarthritis in both my hands, so I can't work as fast as I could before.
As I mentioned, I have plotted out a start, middle and end, but how I get there is dictated by the drawings. I am planning on a Headmistress/Hasbeena/Midcarda story arc, but everything else will just fall into place. The three mascaritas will of course be there, but I'm not planning on them being the main focus.
And again just to be clear, this is a no-budget project which means if any paid work comes along, I do have to give that preference.
But so far it's a lot of fun, and I think you will find some new and interesting sides to some of the characters...
El Malefico Update...
Having done all I can do for Rudopolis right now, and with no other work in sight, I'm spending my time working on a comic book titled 'The Return Of The Return Of El Malefico'. This is a personal, unfunded project that I will keep plugging away at, although there may be times when I have to pause for a while IF any paying work comes in.
I'll keep posting random, spoiler-free, work-in-progress pics, but I don't want to reveal too much as most of the fun will come from the surprises in the story.
Thanks a million for continuing to support me and Mucha Lucha! through this site. I honestly don't think I would keep doing this without your support - especially the reposts, which is the only way to reach a wider audience.
Stay kind, stay creative...
-Eddie

It started in my head as a one-sentence premise as I was walking the dog and has expanded in the corridors of my brain into a full story that has spilled out onto my drawing tablet.
Long, long way ahead (page 7 atm).
*Hey, I've heard that AI thing is hot news right about now. Maybe that can help me finish this in like a day, without pissing off anyone who cares about Mucha Lucha!???
KIDDING.
I'll post a few work-in-progress pics without spoiling anything. The one above is for fans of the H-Man.
Love to all - Eddie
