Don't change yourself...change the things around u

Last week while I was in class, a girl said to me, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear any color besides black.” This is a person I barely know but just see once a week and she is absolutely correct. I am one of “those” people. I hate wearing colors. I love black; I love neutral colors like grey, white, beige, navy, hunter green, burgundy, etc. This is why I love fall/winter you guys...it’s for the colors not for the weather (also I love leaves changing and Halloween but that’s beside the point). 

So my strong pull to wear mostly black is something that my boyfriend has taken note of and started to complain about. He says that he thinks I would look great in color. Now while I appreciate this sentiment I also want to tell him to shove it because I’ll wear whatever I want, not what he wants. But...part of me sees his point. Especially in spring and summer, black cannot be my go to. Color is great and spring/summer just gives off that happy and colorful, bright vibe that I should try to be apart of.

It’s not that I don’t own anything in color...but I’m not comfortable in it. Every time I try on that yellow or flower print top, I look in the mirror and am immediately 100 times more judgmental towards how I look. I’m a petite girl, only 5′2″ and I feel like I don’t look my age. (this will really be helpful later in life tho!) So to me wearing colors makes me look childish and younger than I really am. Wearing black and neutrals makes me feel sophisticated and chic. So I suppose there’s an argument for both here but black IS chic. It is so simple and yet makes such a statement. I don’t know, this may be just me, but I think black is so effortless and can be styled in so many different ways - how can you NOT like black?! But despite this I have made a promise to myself to attempt to wear more color this upcoming spring/summer to try out this whole “you would look good in color” idea that my boyfriend seems to hold. It’s worth a shot right?
