We recognize that some who attend our groups live in a society that makes it more difficult to get by every day. I’m a White guy that has lived here most of my life. I can feel for those that struggle with how things are. I struggle with how things are, but I know that I’ll get treated differently than others because I’m a middle aged and becoming an old white guy. We must acknowledge the way things are before there is any hope of change. Speaking up on difficult topics is critical to being true to ourselves. Guys spoke tonight about wanting to be more themselves. We had 17 guys start a group tonight. They were from different countries, wealthy, poor, spoke different languages, and all spoke the same language. They could relate to each other. They had all made mistakes. We have all made mistakes. We have all hurt those we love. Some spoke of the rage they feel, and the shame, and the regret. Hearing each other left them feeling less alone. At the end of the session many expressed that they felt inspired and hopeful, to go along with their fear, sadness and loss. I appreciate each and every one of them. #johnnycash #wearingblack #antiracism #diversity https://www.instagram.com/p/CPUtI87MIx2/?utm_medium=tumblr
