i have to assume it's bc the author doesn't want to touch on this type of subject in their story but i had to go "in what world is that true" out loud when i read the paragraph of MC saying shit like viktor is just a man / there's nothing he can do to you that hasn't already been done and listing out label rejections and haters. like i'm sorry but the full scope of this scene is aphrodite, a very hot relatively young singer, Wearing Only A Slutty Bikini is getting onto a cart with an extremely powerful male music exec. i do in fact think there's something this man could do and it's fucking Sexual Assault. the thing that men with even the slightest bit of power in the music world are known to commit all the time, especially with young/desperate artists.

VAL — she generally tries to avoid self-reflection because it only sends her down a depression spiral tbh. she’s painfully aware of her numerous flaws and all they’ve cost her and she’d like to just tuck them inside a chest and lock said chest in a vault for eternity so she can stay honed in on her work (that just so happens to benefit from a majority of said flaws), thank you. she Desperately needs some goals and wants beyond her career and i'm sure that'll be part of her journey through the campaign. her one consistent and well-known motivation has been dedicating herself to her work to prove that tyr was right for showing interest in her as a cleric, because idk man. how is she not supposed to be a little addicted to and dependent on the divine approval of a deity when her Everything Else is so sad. (and that tyrran approval naturally ties in with her desire for seeing justice done and helping people and blah blah noble cleric stuff w/e get back to the deity addiction am i right)
RIYA — some would say that she’s engaging in too much self-reflection as of late and it’s driving her fucking Insane. i think there are parts of herself (ie: the suicidal thoughts, the violent thoughts about a certain traitor elf, feeling too seenTM by the old lurenius writings, etc etc) that she's not fully ignoring, but they've frightened or upset her in some way or other and that has her seeking distraction and/or comfort rather than taking time to analyze them. she's pretty locked in on the desires and goals departments though, that's evident.
AURETTA — she's actually quite terrible with her own wants, she spent decades as a hardcore people pleaser and failed spectacularly at looking inward. she’s putting effort into changing that by the end of the campaign, once she’s been handed such a blaring sign to reevaluate her desires and goals in life through that entire insane plot + reuniting with the siblings she missed. she’s doing a lot of self-reflection in that third act, and trying to maintain it afterwards as she goes about life past the epilogue. (does pretty well at it since she’s actually using a support system and surrounded by loved ones now, who woulda thought.)
First: Has your OC ever been the one to leave first? Why did they go, and who did they leave behind? Do they regret it?
VAL — i don't think i'll count the divorce because gerome was the one to bring it up (though she does regret leaving without much of a fight), and i'm not sure she'd have been with anybody else long enough to qualify for “leaving them” tbh. but i guess you could count that as her always being so far ahead in the leaving game that she's already gone before an attachment can form, if you squint and tilt your head. she doesn't regret the behavior at all because it keeps her from any further heartbreak should she bond with somebody and they choose to leave her.
RIYA — oh numerous times, i’m sure, and she doesn’t regret any of them. there were so very many flings and suitors and admirers who either didn’t understand or purposefully ignored (or delusionally thought otherwise) when riya said what they had was casual or wasn’t going to lead to marriage or blah blah, and she had no problem putting them back in their place by leaving them behind or fully cutting them off.
AURETTA — well, she was the first sibling to leave baldur’s gate, leaving behind aydin and their mother. i think she’s spent a lot of time regretting it (especially after jocelyn had two more kids and auretta missed out on a lot of her sisters’ growth) but ultimately determined that it was right for her in the end, because otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten the education and training that made her who she is. which in other circumstances might be fine, but in this world where she needs all she learned to be able to protect her family and save countless people throughout the campaign. yeah. and i’m sure she was the first to leave at least one relationship formed on taltempla, but she has no regrets from that whatsoever lmao
Future: Is there anyone your OC is looking forward to meeting or to seeing again? Who? What might that meeting or reunion look like?
VAL — she's kinda boring for this one, i don't see her as the type going around thinking about these things. the closest thing would be her moments of weakness where she wants to see gerome again, but she's convinced herself that by now he's moved on and is well into raising a family (because of course he has, it’s what he always wanted and he’s such a beautiful soul there’s no way someone hasn’t locked that down) so those thoughts get shut down pretty quickly lmao
RIYA — the thing is that i have too many answers for her because riya's such a social and clingy bitch that it's hard to narrow them down. i'd say that she's looking forward to meeting vitus fabria the most?? they've heard a lot of interesting things about her and her works in general, and then riya's got her own selfish topics on the side that she'd like to speak to her about as well. presumably the meeting will take place in the grand necropolis but i don't know much beyond that 🤷♀️ as for reunions, i didn't want to pick a family member because they're all so obvious as answers but like. andraste’s ASS bro, she misses regulus so much it hurts. she needs her big brother 😭 i don't know what the reunion would look like because they're both traveling and busy, but Hopefully it's something that allows them the time to have a proper heart-to-heart and some cuddles (the cuddles are top priority).
AURETTA — for the first two acts of the game i'd say that she was quietly very desperate to see her mama. auretta hadn't seen her in some years, and then was abducted by the mindflayers while on her trip to baldur's gate to see her, so that forced continued separation hit pretty hard. even with that time spent with her siblings, she still worried for their mother and thought every so often about how much she wanted to hold/be held by her. i don't imagine the reunion was all that dramatic or anything, the siblings reached the city and ran to their mama and they spent 15 minutes taking turns holding her lmao. for meetings i think she’d be interested in meeting aydin and taea’s fathers??? i don’t imagine she’s met them before but would look forward to it now that she’s spending more time with family + capable of teleporting with relative ease.

Social Circle: What's your OC's social circle? Are they obligated to spend time with others in their circle, or are they happy to be there? Has their social standing and social circle ever changed, and if so, how did your OC feel about it?
RIYA — her social circle is huge man, idk. she's letting everybody and their mama into it, she doesn't care. she's only irritated by the most strict obligation driven connections, it's mad annoying feeling that she Must interact with somebody instead of doing so out of her own want. her social standing very quickly and very publicly changed with the murderer allegations, and then shifted again when she became a grey warden. she’s in a weird place where she still has a lady’s entitlement and some of the privileges, but in addition she’s having to adjust to people’s reactions and expectations of her as a warden. it can get a bit discombobulating when she’s having a chat with somebody and feeling a bit like her past self, then having her present reality start clashing with it when the darkspawn/blight talk begins and she can see the expectation of her action in their eyes. a year ago all she had to worry about was if she’d upset somebody by declining their gala invitation because she wanted to attend another event, now she’s suffering anxieties over thoughts that she didn’t properly soothe somebody’s fears of fucking death and destruction and chaos by the darkspawn/archdemon (while panicking about the same things herself). it’s terrifying but she at least prefers this over the period of time when it felt like everybody looking at her believed her to be guilty of victor’s murder, she didn’t handle that well at all.
VAL — presently her circle is her household staff and the people she regularly interacts with for her work, and she's not really exploring beyond that. she's obligated to spend time with most of the latter but she only has a distaste for the flaming fist members, everybody else she's either happy or neutral to be around. she's definitely come a long way from being a lonely orphan, as she's now a well-known investigator of tyr’s church and has been interacting with the wealthy of baldur's gate for years. during her marriage, her social circle consisted of the tyrran clergy of elturel and then gerome's friends, and she lost all of them after she moved out of the city post-divorce (all except her mentor vyrax, who went with her). it was pretty devastating realizing that the only person she had left was vyrax, i don't think she would've really processed that she hadn't made friends outside of him and gerome's group until she felt that isolation of them all taking his side in the divorce. she wasn’t angry with them because of course not, she had no right to be, but it still hurt being so abruptly near those feelings of her crippling childhood loneliness again.
Meet Strange: What's the most memorable way your OC has ever met a new person? Was it a good experience? Bad experience? Just plain weird? How's their relationship with that person now?
RIYA — gotta be with xenea, right?? simply one of the most insane moments of her life being socially ambushed by that woman in the circle and talking to not only her but also lurenius through her with that telepathy of theirs (and later full-on puppetry). i think riya’s feelings on it are fairly mixed rn, because she was feeling A Lot while it was happening and she’s still processing it in-game. fear and intrigue (both in the curiosity sense and the scheming sense while toeing around lies) were the most prominent feelings and they were very much at war with one another, had her heart and mind racing like crazy, even after xenea had left the room. i can’t say that she and riya have a “relationship” because it was just the one conversation, but i can say that riya’s both curious and confused about her (simply because she can’t comprehend the kind of love xenea was expressing for lurenius, she can’t compute that shit and as a LovergirlTM it interests her as much as it baffles her).
VAL — goddamn, i can't even begin to imagine all of the insane ways val has met people over her career. plucking something out of thin air: i think it'd be hysterical if she first met some kind of infrequent criminal contact by having had detect thoughts active and hearing them through an invisibility spell/scroll/potion effect, listening to them think loudly about how they’re going to get away with it until her eyes snapped right to where they were hiding and they got jumpscared so hard they shouted. she would’ve been unimpressed overall, but had a moment of amusement seeing their shock once the dispel magic popped them back into view. unfortunately val is a superior bitch so i’m sure whatever minimal relationship she has with the person is colored by her looking down on them for being a criminal, even if their knowledge is helpful on occasion lmao

RIYA — she’s kinda both?? riya’s pretty loosey-goosey with defining relationships in too many terms because they’re all unique, she goes with the flow on whatever each one develops into. her history has majorly leaned into more casual connections because she was a slutty socialite and that’s the vibe she attracted, but the ability to be in long-term relationships was already there with victor (and bastian if you squint lmao). she’s already well under way in forming more long-term relationships in the campaign (the most obvious one being audoire) and i don’t think it’s going to necessarily feel all that strange to her because of that willingness to embrace dynamics as they come. everybody and their mamas know that riya’s obsessed with intimacy, from the most casual to the most intense forms of it, because she was raised to be open with affection and it’s the only way she knows how to be. she's honestly grown a little needy and desperate for both affection and relationships over the past few months, feeling so alone and without proper love/care has fucked her up and she's ready to cling to what she can get.
VAL — she’s been hung up on her ex-husband for 25 years, and hasn’t found any lasting happiness/enjoyment out of any of the casual hook-ups or attempted relationships after the divorce (and the total of all those are capable of being counted on a single hand). soooo. evidence pointing towards her being the most down bad long-term relationship gal, no way about it. she’s SO fucked up about intimacy and relationships, if that isn’t already obvious. she’s absolutely terrified of anybody being close to her because she’s certain they’ll then see her as something broken and miserable and horrid and they’ll want to leave her just as gerome did, so it’s safer (for her head and heart, maybe not so much her soul) to keep everybody at a distance.
