Blood is thicker than water... right? That's what everyone thinks... family comes first, blood is thicker than water. It should only be logical. Even from a physical point, water is more... fluid. It adapts more. Blood once it's out of the body, clots.. it's ugly, it's messy, stinks. Blood is thicker than water. But people seem to forget that the full quote was lengthier. The original saying went The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Meaning the opposite of what people often associated with the 'shortened' saying... The family you choose is more important than the family you were born into... If there was someone who knew the crente meaning of the quote like the back of his hand, that someone was your boyfriend, Colson... His relationship with his family was... shitty at best, abusive at worst. His father and him? it was a mess, with his old man beating the crap out of him, and once they reconnected, the man died leaving your lover a mess. But his mom? That was a different story. She walked out much too soon, when he was still a kid... he made several attempts to rekindle with her, but most of those seemed to fail. It was now his birthday... and it appeared he wanted her to be there as he had just turned 34... But as you heard the ringing on the phone come to a halt, and watched him redial. over. and over. you could see his frustration growing more and more. Why did she not want to be around him? was it his fault? he couldn't help but to overanalyze it. "God dammit why do i fucking bother-" he said in a grunt, his voice heavy with a rasp that you only heard in it when he was beyond pissed. Then it happened too fast for you to be able to stop, the way he just slammed his face down, bringing his phone against it VERY abruptly. You had seen videos of people breaking wood planks with karate, but- well- he broke his phone... And apparently- almost his nose. "C-COL!" you rushed to his side, as he raised his head, blood gushing from the nasal cavity and dripping down his face in a sizeable quantity, soaking his shirt. "Damn it have you lost your damn mind" You cussed. "Why... why did she not pick up. I call. i try. but she never-" He huffed.. "Fuck if i know why that hag didn't- Colson, you are hurt." "Yes the fuck i am." He spat out, his words laced with venom, but you knew better. The venom wasn't aimed at you... "yeah... i know you are, big boy..." You sighed, running your hands through his hair... you then slowly wiped the blood from his face with your thumb in gentle caresses. "Why don't i get to have a family..?" He asked again... "You have one. i'm right here. If she is too dumb to know what she is missing out on, than she doesn't deserve you... you... you're a good, good kind man, and a talented one at that. it's her loss. not yours." You reaffirmed him gently, and when he leaned forward, you rapidly grabbed at the pyramid of his nose and slammed it back into place with a thud making him shriek. "son of a- OW. That hurt" "Than don't be a dumbass and pop your nose out over some bitch. you idiot" You rolled your eyes, and then kissed him gently, which he gladly reciprocated not even arguing. He was an idiot... but he was your idiot. You both were family... And a damn good one at that. Who needs that old woman.
