If your first instinct is to run for the hills or build a metaphorical fortress around your heart...you've never been loved properly or it's not a proper love.

Feeling misunderstood? Sometimes to connect with people you have to remember that not everyone is on the same level of intellect, maturity, and/or understanding. Some would rather live in ignorance for a little while longer because just putting forth the effort to shift their perspective and reach a deeper, more complex understanding of causes them too much stress. The metaphorical box is their childhood home so leaving it for just a moment is scary. It takes a certain amount of security and confidence to be able to hear a new idea/philosophy without allowing fear convince you that you've somehow abandoned your foundation, convictions, and/or principles. If just hearing new idea upsets you and you become instantly aggravated and defensive-- check yourself. Most of the time, that disturbance comes from the weight of truth on top of a weak and buckling foundation. It's just growing pains. Do your own research and be as unbiased as possible. If the philosophy doesn't check out, no worries. Never argue with the person who offered the new philosophy. This should never cross your mind unless you intend to offer them an even more interesting outlook to ponder NOT to accept. You can't make someone accept a new way of thinking that's the job of their mind and heart after intensive searching.
