Soon, I’ll hopefully run a game of “Monster of The Week”. For inspirational purposes, I’ll now start watching “Supernatural” which I have never seen before. Any opinions on what season I should stop with? People tell me the show sucked in the end.

Okay, so “Supernatural” is one of THOSE shows where all women are ridiculously overstyled. “Oh yeah, you come visit me at home to ask about my missing brother? Well of course I sit around at home at 9 p. m. with lipstick on and smoky eyes! What are you on about?”

Watch marathon continues. From a GMs standpoint, there is a lot of inspiration for “Monster of the Week”: monsters and ghosts to hunt, mysteries to solve, cool and atmospheric locations, stupid one-liners to include, good music. But damn, Dean’s constant lusting after hot chicks didn’t age well at all and really gives the impression that he’s overcompensating MASSIVELY.

The popcultural/geek references are enjoyable af though. Notable ones include a mention of the Vulcan mind melt and Dr. Venkman.

Maybe my family is just hugging very often, but damn, NOBODY IS HUGGING ANY FAMILY MEMBER in this series. Like this is a show about two brothers who constantly experience heart-breaking and traumatic stuff and THEY NEVER HUG. It feels so weird to me.

I loved SPN at the time, but it definitely took a turn for the worse after season 5. I haven’t watched far beyond that, and I used to be obsessed.

I love your observations though. Dean’s behaviour has always read as over compensation to me too. It’s probably why there was so much fanfic about him? (Although I’m sure there would have been, either way.)

So many people told me that the show got bad after season 5. Interesting. Curious to see what happened in case I ever get there.

I think you are right about Dean fanfic and it inspired me to ponder why there is so much incest fanfic in Supernatural (Dean/Sam is the second most common pairing on AO3 after Destiel which is in the lead by far). I think it stems from the fact that Dean and Sam don’t really behave like brothers for the most part (and they look nothing alike). They bicker like an old couple and I found at least two jokes in the first season about them being a gay couple. That’s my theory so far. But I’m so sure I will ponder this some more.

Got around to third season now. I gonna give it to them: they really know their target audience and all their tropes.

In episode 6 of season 3, Bela tells Dean who just came down the stairs wearing a James Bond-worthy suit, “You know, when this is over, we should really have angry sex.”

To what Dean answers after a moment of himbo visible confusion, “Don’t objectify me.”

Had to giggle.

5th season now. Just saying: Holy shit, Dean and Sam are really crappy hunters. I’m fully convinced that my RP group’s future hunters would totally kick their asses.

Randomly coming back to Supernatural after a period of "damn humans suck" depression. Rewatching the whole thing because I can't remember in which season I stopped watching.

Now on Asylum (s1, e10) and it's still so astonishing how badly prepared Dean and Sam are. I mean: The show always stresses that they where trained to be hunters since they were kids. YET THEY DON'T BEHAVE TRAINED.

Example: Spirit slowly walks up at Sam who is holding a video camera (instead of a weapon). Sam cries out for Dean to help him (maybe he's just needy and likes to be protected by his older brother), who takes AGES to react.

Like two thirds of the time they're just lucky they don't end up dead.

The only power we have in capitalism is buying something or NOT buying something and we throw that away because we're lazy and unwilling to not get exactly what we want. We're so used to have all our wishes fulfilled that it seems unheard of to not buy the thing from the asshole, because we WANT that thing. So yeah, xyz is an asshole, but I still support xyz by buying the thing because existing without it means I didn't get my wish. And that is so damn inconvenient.

I think I'm getting depressed.
