I had to work late on a project, and my wife wanted to visit her sister across town. Fortunately, we had a good babysitter that we hired regularly for the baby when things like this came up; that particular night she asked if her friend could join her, since the weather was supposed to be bad and she was anxious about being alone. So of course we allowed it, why wouldn't we? The snowstorm hit the city like a hurricane. I left work early to hurry home, but my wife ended up stranded. I was forced to park a block away from the house, as the streets weren't safe, and walked the rest of the way.
I got home, but there was no way the girls would be able to get home. They called their parents, assured them that they were safe, and I assured them that I'd make sure they were taken care of and would get them home as soon as it was safe. My wife was stuck at her sister's across town. The white-out conditions lasted three days, a century storm of a blizzard that locked the entire town down. They were sharing my bed by the end of the first night.
