Creativity

There's this belief that you are either born creative or you are not. I don't think that is true, and have read many stories and books that bolster that belief. I think creativity is a muscle, it needs to be developed to be used. Some people develop muscle (both physical and creative) more easily than others, but it takes work to get it the way you want it.

I thought for the longest time I wasn't creative. Yes, I was a good photographer, but not a creative one. I recorded what was there, not quite like a photojournalist, but I didn't try to actually try to create something. Then I started to shoot with an infrared camera, which made me *see* differently. Green grass and leaves weren't green, they reflected infrared light. Blue sky absorbed it. Water absorbed it. So I delved into learning about it and how to photograph it, and then how to develop it. That started me thinking about other things I could do differently and more creatively. I looked at people's work and then extrapolated from that. I now think I'm fairly creative photographically, but I'm always going to be a work in progress.

I still don't write well, and I can't paint or draw, but that may come too.

Tulip Time

Sometimes it feels like winter is endless and spring will never come. Especially winters where there is little snow, lots of rain, and it's been very windy; there's nothing photographically to look forward to when every day seems like that. This winter seemed like that, so when the tulips started showing up in the supermarket, I began a tulip buying and photographing spree. I love the deep depth of field I get from focus stacking, but I also love the soft, almost sensual effect of a very shallow depth of field, but for most of the inside work I focus stacked anywhere from 30-120 photos to make these images.
