I think people need to talk more about Jason’s death. But not as something tbat defines him, more as a traumatic and stressful experience that happened to him. He can’t just get over something like that.
And like, this isn’t really the point of the post, but i had to say it.
Frankly, i hate people going “oh, so many people have died and came back before! What’s so special about him?” Like, my dude, he DIED.
DC normalised Death like society normalised SA (and I am so sorry to people who had go through an experience like that. It’s a serious issue and yet people wave it off without any regard for the victims, and i’ve heard that some even blame the victims. Which is also what happened with Jason and his death but, ugh, i’ve been going off topic)
Just because it’s “normal” in DC does NOT mean it has any less impact. Not to mention the events and the insecurities and the desperate hope for a family that led to his death in the first place.
Can you even imagine going through an experience like that? Can you even imagine feeling what he felt? And yes, he’s a fictional character, but why do people put so much emphasis on the trauma of other characters’ deaths but then turn around and go “oh, it’s normal, he shouldn’t be so affected by it” and i can see this as something JASON could use to “justify” his death (in quotes cause nothing can justify being brutally murdered at fifteen) but why the hell are people so flippant about it?
And the VICTIM BLAMING oh my god, I absolutely hate that.
“He was reckless” pointedly looks at both Dick, Tim, and Damian
“He didnt follow orders” staring intensifies
“He was violent” OH IM SORRY, are you saying you wouldn’t be violent too? Look at freaking Bruce! He beats up criminals every night! And i swear if people say “He used excessive force” YES HE DID, AGAINST RAPISTS AND TRAFFICKERS AND ABUSERS.
Like, you’re telling me this kid, this Robin, who’s a former street kid and grew up there, having witnessed the horrors of life and seen how much those very same people take and take and hurt and hurt, wouldn’t want to hurt them back? Are you fucking kidding me right now?
(It’s honestly a miracle that Jason was such a happy and hopeful child.)
Like, i don’t know where to take this post now, my entire train of thought has been derailed, but i just had to say this.
