Trying to shut my trap but it's hard, I have new points to discuss on Light, particularly one on a mistranslation (I hate you Viz Media) but want to save them for special occasion/post them elsewhere I intend to upkeep properly 💀

I am 1.5k words into writing this fic so far and it's somehow scary seeing it actually materialize lmao

I have come to resent terms like Mary Sue and Manic Pixie Dream Girl even though their original and constructive definitions really helped me figure out what choices I should make concerning Tobie as an OC and love interest for Light.

Mostly because they're more used today as buzzwords for subjective and personal biases mostly against female characters or even self-inserts and OCs in general under the guise of criticizing any actual quality of writing.

I really wanted that quality and wanted Tobie to feel like she could exist in proximity to Light naturally and thankfully, Death Note's universe and rules turned out to leave a lot of room for me to do just that in my own way.

But it was hard for me to get there and realize it because admittedly, I was held back by wanting to defend myself against and maybe even convert a reader who would simply hate Tobie and Raitobie no matter what because of their personal tastes.

But I'm glad I woke up and got back into the spirit of actually being self indulgent and serving my actual desires. I've even felt pressure to lean into angst because all the fics I have read and uphold as amazing are angsty.

But Raitobie was never angsty, it has always been a relationship of two people despite the odds and any flaws or differences deeply loving and respecting each other. Raitobie has always been wholesome and a dynamic with positive trajectory. Fluff and hurt and comfort is good food and just as worth making. So that's been my journey.

I keep worrying that Tobie as a character is a Mary Sue but then I remembered that L has an official evil creepypasta doppelganger who was born with shinigami eyes. Tobie is truly just normal
