watched the backrooms. REALLY REALLY liked it it did the concept how i wanted it to be. even how they executed including a monster(something im usually strongly against in the context of the backrooms) by making it so PERSONAL. good movie. it was like a long twilight zone episode did you see that shit that was fucked up im rod sterling.

finally watching guillermo del toros frankenstein and already ive been a little bit bemused by the changes made from the original text.
i mean, stylistically? i adore it. it has some stellar costuming going on(other than my Least favorite fabric making its appearance again tulle i hate you tulle) and i love it when a film uses strong, bold colors. a del toro classic. i also love the gorey, drawn out process that accompanies actually BUILDING the creature. the music. the lighting. watching each muscle be pulled and twitched. VERY COOL.
i also really like what they did with elizabeth, giving her much stronger characterization than she ever had in the book. her being an entomologist, already fascinated by animals that are treated as ugly and less worthy as life, makes her compassion for the creature all the more believable.
its definitely a compelling story in its own right as a reinterpretation. so im trying to enjoy it as that, rather than as an accurate retelling.
my biggest gripe comes from removing the wrongful execution of justine for williams death in the film, because i always felt that his weakness in not revealing the truth during that time was one of victors most profound moments to establish his overwhelming guilt. her being a loyal servant to his family since she was a child, but her life being less valued in exchange for victor to continue victimizing himself.
im not too torn up about henrys removal given that this version of victor isnt as prone to sulking as he is to anger. henry mostly served in the book to stir victor out of his depressive spirals and act as a moral compass. the victor in the movie is less prone to these bouts of ennui.
harlander almost acts as an anti-henry, trying to profit off of victors work and enable his hubris to save himself. he has the same obsession with death as victor, and a vulture for mass deaths as an arms dealer. i think hes a very interesting character to add that contextualizes a lot of victors own tendencies from outside his own head.
very...very interesting choice to make victor and the creatures first moment together so tender. he revels in pride at his creation rather than flee in fear. im not sure how to feel about it. it almost makes everything he does after that much more cruel.
idk. very stylish, but not the story i fell in love with. im trying to love it as it is rather than what it was "supposed to be."

No matter how shitty it might feel in the moment, most of the time when someone comes to you to communicate a boundary or a need or a negative feeling about something you did, it is actually a compliment. They are telling you BECAUSE they care about you and want it to work between you and because they trust you to care to do better. If they didn't care about you, they'd just avoid you. That uncomfortable convo is in fact a declaration of love and trust. Or at least intention of friendship. If they didn't like you, they'd just try to avoid you whenever possible. They wouldn't care to have The Talk (which is often scary and uncomfortable for them also). So try to treat their trust with care, even if it really upsets you to learn that you've accidentally hurt them

My cat needs to see the vet.
This is Angel. She lost both of her siblings in the past two months which has broken my heart in ways I cannot describe. She is all I have left, and her health frightens me due to how we lost her brother and sister.
I made her a GFM which has not scraped up a single cent, so I am here to ask again to please help me take her to the vet. I am scared that the loss is taking a toll on her or that she might be struggling and I don't know. I love my Angel dearly, and am on my hands and knees to beg for help in getting her some medical attention.
Please, help me help her. She is not just a pet, she is my family.
