I wanted to capture a aspect of her character that I feel tends to get overlooked, sadness. It's a minor thing but I think Sachiko carries a lot of sadness and emotional burden from things like, a clearly failed marriage, being a single mother (and all the troubles that come with that), worrying about her son, and having him fall into a coma for 15 years (I guess we could also count her dying wishing she’d believed Satoru). But the best part of her character is that she’s still an amazing mother, and overall person! She’s caring and loving and she doesn’t let any of her troubles weigh her or the others around her down! I just wanted to capture a bit of her sadness and struggle as it’s I feel important to her character, and gets often overlooked in favor of just seeing how great of a mother she is.
