Rewatching "Hellbound" - or, wow this episode gives visuals. The practical makeup effects and lighting still look fantastic.
This whole episode is another edition of (my favorite game) "John Doggett is having an absolutely terrible day" BUT this is face you make when you realize your partner is the SPOOKIEST BITCH ON ALL OF THE XFILES.

Or, this episode marks where I personally think the show goes from being really good to something great, and I wish we could have seen what more seasons would have looked like. It's some of Michael Biehn's best work, Ron Perlman is used incredibly well opposite the incomparable Tyne Daly, and everyone else nails their moments. Ezra leading the Nichols brothers on a wild goose chase AND blowing up the armored wagon? Casey Wells being complicated? JD walking into the saloon all beat up and no one noticing except Chris? When audience & characters alike realize whats up with Hank? The big battle with Tyne Daly's praying overtop all of it? A+ television.
The show hit its stride. From here on out, every episode is a banger. Can't wait. <3

I've reached "John Doe" on my XF rewatch.
Observations/Thoughts (spoilers ahead!)
1. This episode works so well bc Robert Patrick is SO GREAT. The memories coming back? The moment where John Doe looks down and John Doggett looks up? *chefs kiss*
2. When I tell you my husband (also rewatching), teen son (first watch, loves it a lot) & I all cheered when Scully walks into the San Antonio field office and Monica says but Kersh shut the whole task force down and Scully says yeah whatever Skinner is on his way to Mexico bc of course Scully and Skinner are gonna do their respective things regardless of permission. This household loves Walter Skinner. <3
3. "He walked out on me and my kids." *bribes cop* LOL Monica. I love her.
4. "Use the bus." YEEEEEES. *Immediately rolls the bus.* These two are actually such great weirdos. I love them together. We were robbed of the Doggett & Reyes show the later seasons could have been.
Anyway I think its a totally stellar episode. <3

A. I'm not the only one who thinks Chris & Rafael are flirting for this ENTIRE EPISODE right? (I'm not complaining.)
B. Watching this again, I remain convinced that (Buck aside) a Vin/Inez romance could have been in the future plans if the series continued. He's shadowing her the whole time. (We don't talk about Wagon Train bc WTF are you DOING, Vin Tanner?)
C. Dana Barron is the CUTEST.

Langly obviously makes it easy af (thanks cutie) but do we think Byers is a Beatles guy? Does Frohike seem like a mostly rock n roll guy who also listens to literally every other genre of music and likes a bit of everything including some pop bangers and tells Langly to stop being a snob? What non-Ramones albums/songs play in the bunker while they're working? (I keep rolling around "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz lol.)
This is literally all for ONE very unimportant throw away line in a story Im writing and its all I can think about right now.

My favorite fanfics are the ones I call Rosencrantzes, or (like Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead) stories that take place in the cracks of the media/stories we have been shown. Tell me what happened to B and C characters while A-Team went off to do the big dramatic conclusion. What do the characters get up to in their off hours? Show me very important characters doing unimportant things. I love it so much.

Mood: Campground tent in a rainstorm. <3
XFiles/Midnight Mass crossover where Doggett and Reyes (and also Scully for some reason) go to Crockett Island after the cats fall from the sky. Always Very Catholic Dana Scully immediately clocks Hill/Pruitt as full of shit and HATES Bev (GA vs SS scenes will be epic), and our dude Doggett does his whole "You're telling me its vampires?" thing even after he sees bonkers stuff, so he makes friends with the Sheriff, and suspects Riley until the very dramatic & bloody conclusion where he probably gets the shit kicked out of him by The Creature. Meanwhile Annabeth Gish gets to do dual roles (as Monica who is 100% in her element bc EVIL CULT MAYBE DEMONS STUFF - and as Dr Sarah who gets to be logical and scientific, very Scully-like) so everybody wins. Maybe they get airlifted out in the end, or maybe they escape in a rowboat. Whatever.
Mulder would have loved EVERY SECOND. :)
Just imagine the Flana-verse XFiles. <3
