Simon's lore:
Simon was born into a poor Irish muggle family during a time poverty and strife. His mother did not survive the birth, so his father raised him on his own. However, between grieving for his wife and the hardships of poverty, Simon's father turned to the bottle. Often whatever money they could get would go towards liquor, and many a night, Simon would go to bed hungry.
One day, when Simon was 8, his father decided that they would immigrate to England in search for a better life, but when they arrived there, they were met with discrimination and loathing. Simon's father could not get a job with decent wages, nor could he afford to take care of both of them.
Mr. Blake made the hardest decision of his life; one that would ensure the safety and wellbeing of his son better than he ever could...
He left Simon at an orphanage.
Simon was confused. His father promised him he would return one day. But even as the orphanage matron pulled him inside as he watched his father walk away, he knew he was never coming back.
Life in the orphanage was not a good one, although it was not entirely bad either. When Simon turned 12, he longed to be free. He told the matron that he wanted to leave and she told him he was too young. He told her that at his age he was very unlikely to be adopted and wanted to live for himself. Eventually the matron relented. She not only let him leave but also gave him spare clothes and some food to last him.
For the next few years, Simon lived on the streets; begging, borrowing and occasionally stealing to get by. He would sometimes do an odd job for a few pennies, but there wasn't much an un-educated child could do. Simon would sometimes go to the nearest school and watch the students come and go with their books and uniforms. He longed to go to school - a proper school with classrooms, and courtyards with fountains in them. The orphanage had taught him to read but only barely. Simon was smart enough to teach himself the rest. But he wanted to learn mathematics, philosophy, literature and history.
One day, Simon heard the most beautiful sound; a melody weaving through the streets. He followed the sound and found a young girl his age. She had red hair and green eyes, and she played the violin like nothing he'd ever seen or heard. Simon watched as passers-by dropped an endless stream of pennies into a hat for her. When she saw him looking, she smiled.
Her name was Alice. The two of them became inseparable. They stuck together and shared their money to survive. She even taught Simon to play violin, but he was never as good as her.
TW: violence
After Simon turned fifteen they had more than enough money for food, but it caught the attention of a gang of street thugs. They tried to take the money for themselves by threatening Alice. Simon stood in front of her and challenged the thugs, but he was still a boy after all. He ended up beaten and bloodied with a broken nose and a permanent scar. Just as the thugs' leader was about to deliver the final hit, a burst of blue magic sent them flying. Simon's ancient magic had finally shown itself.
It wasn't long before he was approached by Professor Eleazar Fig, who told him all about the Wizarding World. Simon was then accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Not only could he finally go to school, he could attend the best school in the world.
For the first time in his life, Simon felt like his life had true meaning. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, he made friends, joined the Quidditch team. He finally belonged.
However, he had to leave Alice behind. After his ancient magic demonstration, Alice, being a muggle, had to be obliviated. As far as she was aware, he was given a scholarship to a fancy school and nothing else. He hated that she couldn't know the truth, that she likely felt abandoned by him. But Simon knew that one day he would find his way back to her again.
