So happy to be back home in Scotland!

I have been away in Italy this past week for work. The incredibly warm weather provided plenty of opportunities to indulge in some gelato, lemon and pistachio! Back in Edinburgh now with snow and rain, my preferred weather. Unfortunately, no cannoli or mascarpone though!

Admittedly, the Swedish bakery near my flat always looks very tempting, especially the semla! 

Sigh, sometimes your family just doesn’t respect your lifestyle (or are logically afraid of salmonella).

A true tragedy.

At one of my old workplaces, we were only allowed to refer to dairy alternatives as “beverage” (eg. oat beverage) as calling it milk would be misleading. 

Did you know, they have typewriter attachments for tablets? I can’t tell if that’s brilliant or ridiculous. I can understand why someone would prefer a more tactile method of writing. In my first year of uni, a couple of students bought typewriters. Did I mention that we were living overseas for 8 months and you would have to somehow ship that home, along with lava lamps, shag carpets and bikes (all things my classmates actually bought).

In my defence, I actually wear prescription glasses. I wish they were as affordable as “fashion glasses”. 

As I post this, I am drinking water out of an old jam jar.

I have to admit, the trend of unique, often themed, plating is one of my favourite things. Some ideas are creative, and some are downright useless and bizarre. 

There is a Hipster Santa in Portland (of course) and a Fashion Santa in Toronto. Maybe in Scotland, we can have a Chippy Santa?

For my Hipster Horror Stories series, it was really important that it all be in good jest. I wanted to make sure that I only added humour, rather than mock people (I am also guilty of a lot of things that I joked about in this series). There is a lot of negativity/mockery that surrounds things that are labelled as “hipster”, but there are also a lot of wonderful things addressed in this way that aren’t “hipster” but are just different or progressive. All this is to say, I will always try to avoid mocking positive things, like vegan or vegetarian diets, patronising independent shops, frequenting charity shops, shopping plastic free, etc.. It’s a fine line between humour or parody and mockery.

Hipster Horror Stories, I started this series a few months ago and they were the first works that I shared online. Posting my work online and making a series really encouraged me to be more prolific and less terrified to share my art. 

My first post! I will start with one of my favourite recent pieces, Plant Life. Although I have been posting my art on Instagram for a few months now, I am really looking forward to posting my work on Tumblr and being able to communicate more about my work and the process; and to see and hear more from my favourite artists.
