I feel a small desire to expand upon this a bit-
Gender expression is incredibly fluid. So are people—shocker— and the way those people like to be referred to, interface with others, and exist as, are, you guessed it, also fluid.
Dana has given us someone people interpreted as trans initially, there’s no harm in it, and she even said it is cool to do that, because she’s not a sociopath. Frankie has masculine traits sure, she’s big and gruff, but then of course she is, she’s a laborer. She works on the ship hauling junk and spends all day working in a factory, you do tend to get big doing those things.
She also!!! Has feminine traits!!! Her dissociations are all cutesy little creatures. She loves cute stuff clearly, her hacker thing is an adorable frog. She keeps her hair long, too, which I am to understand is feminine.
You might be thinking, motorcadeopentop, what about those traits are masculine or feminine exactly? To which I would respond “that is exactly the point, my disciple”.
Frankie is a woman, and she identifies that way, it’s not up to you to decide her presentation isn’t enough. It’s not up to anyone to decide your gender presentation is or isn’t enough. It’s something only you can decide.
Dana apologized on BSky for being so short with her answer abt Frankie, and was clear that she is more than okay with relating to Frankie as trans, but by Jove it’s a fictional character. My real life friends are having a hard time, and given the general consensus it’s not myopic of me to say that a *lot* of trans people are having a hard time. We don’t need to cannibalize each other over Frank, who you can believe is trans or not, it isn’t hurting nobody.
I am open to discussion about this, it’s very fascinating to me how incredibly visceral the reaction was to what I thought was a pretty innocuous comment about Dana’s Character She Made Up.
