Along with Ruben Faria, who was basically confined to play the role of luxury assistance team mate to Cyril Despres, Helder Rodrigues was also the leader of a generation of Portuguese riders who emerged in the wake of their first participation in 2006, when the start of the rally was taken in Lisbon. Rodrigues was recruited by Honda in 2013, following his two third place finishes on a Yamaha. He has always reach the finish line and only failed once to finish in the Top 10 in his 11 Dakar participations. His only ‘disappointing’ result came in 2015 when he finished 12th with a Honda that suffered a series of mechanical problems.
