Just my opinion..

I became a socialist about a year and a half ago. Like almost everyone who will read this blog, I was raised to be a capitalist. Or, I was supposed to be- but humans don’t work like that.

As a child, I was told to share with my friends, to play nice. I wanted to befriend others, to help and enjoy myself. To me, as I began to explore the world, I didn’t care about profit or surplus value; my interests were more aligned with drawing pictures of dogs with crayons at a friend’s house.

Interestingly enough, looking back- I felt no need to take the crayons when I left. I didn’t want to horde a stack of crayons in the corner of my room until it was so large that there was nothing I could ever conceivably achieve with them. What was important to me, was using them- to create, to play with, to bond with others, even to ruin the brand new cream-coloured wallpapering with an off-shade of red in the crude shape of a house- and besides, my parents always told me to share, isn’t that just good manners?
