He remembered the night before - magical, soft, warm, happy - and glanced to his left. Starscream, still fast asleep. He didn't want to disturb him, so instead, Thundercracker got out of the berth slowly and carefully.

It took a little bit of prowling through the base quietly, as to not be detected, until he found an energon dispenser. He got two cubes and snatched a bag of energon sweets he saw lying around. Thundercracker walked slowly back, careful not to spill anything.

Starscream felt the pressure against his frame leave and woke up. He was a light sleeper from the Decepticon army and such little things managed to wake him up. The pressure also felt nice and when it disappeared, he felt lonely. He tried to reach out for the pressure, but only managed to brush his digits over something soft and fluffy, before that also disappeared. He knew that softness, though. That softness he was wrapped in last night. Last night.

Last night!

His optics suddenly shot open, as he remembered last night. It was beautiful. The softness, the warmth, the purity of the moment, and in the middle of it all, the bot that he cared for the most. Whom he would kill for. Whom he would give the love he deserves, that his own universe couldn't give him. Thundercracker. Darling of his. But Thundercracker wasn't there. He left. And Starscream doesn't know where he is. He decided that he'll look for him, but he has to get out of the pillows and blankets of the nest first. And he doesn't want to leave the warmth that the other left behind.

Instead, he said, "I found some energon for us. We can watch that - what's it called? - movie too!"

Thundercracker would have to leave soon - he knew that. He knew Starscream knew that. This wasn't his home and he couldn't stay here. Thundercracker had something to find, places to go, and eventually he had to go back to his own world before anyone got suspicious.

"... I'll have to leave after that. I have to go home and... I need to make sure everyone else there is okay, and then... I'm looking for something, out there between all the worlds. I'm looking for a world without war, where we can all be safe..."

That was his mission, the one he had travelled so far and to so many places to seek. At first, it had been a place where Thundercracker and his trine could go. But his Starscream would never leave, not until he led the Decepticons. And Skywarp was long gone now.

But Thundercracker and Starscream... they could leave. They could.

He couldn't beat those thoughts and his arm suddenly snaked around the bird tightly and protectively, as if the most precious thing was a tiny gorgeous pebble he found in the sea and he had to hold it tightly so the waves won't carry it away. He looked up at him, optics warm big and vulnerable, holding a hint of desperation and fear in them.

Starscream: "Please... don't leave me..."

His whisper was raspy from sleep, but shaky from fear of separation.

Starscream: "Just stay...I...we can be safe here...see? We're alright... we're...we're..."

He trailed off, his hold tightening, pulling the smaller frame closer. Gosh, he wanted to keep him against himself. He wanted to protect him. To keep him safe.

He froze. Oh, he hadn't meant to... He hadn't... Thundercracker hadn't even thought about that. "I'm not leaving," he said hastily. "I - I won't leave today. I'll stay longer... But I have to go look eventually, for a place without all of this..."

His dermas accidentally grazed the bird's delicate neck. He could feel the heat from his frame rise and the energon pulsing under the neck's mesh.

After a moment of silence, he spoke up.

Starscream: "If you find...a perfect place...can you take me there too...?"

His voice was still shaky, but there was something new. Hope.

He pulled away from Thundercracker's neck and looked at him. That beautiful bot was promising him more moments together. More moments that they would spend next to each other. But it would also be more moments when Starscream would hold back his feelings for the bot of his life.

But this time he decided to go for it all.

He leaned in closer, their breaths mingling. He could feel his spark pulse faster his breathing quicken. He noticed that on the other seeker too. He also heard his own vents click to life. And then the other's vents a second after. His optics half lidded, as his gaze dropped to the other's dermas.

The bot on the other side was looking just beside Starscream, not noticing him yet. His green optics didn't bear any secondary lights, so it was near impossible to see where he was actually focused on.

For a moment, he didn't reply, just fiddling with a small-looking pen between his sharp digits.

That was, until, he apparently spotted (or heard) Starscream and visibly retracted from the screen-- an audible crackling sound could be heard as the datapad was thrown and collided face-down on the ground.

"Idiot! That's the only pad we got!" Cried out a disgruntled sounding mech from far off screen. Such a rough tone wouldn't suit the bot that was just on screen.

"Sorry." A deeper voice mumbled, much closer to the datapad.

"You better hope that datapad still works, Raj'! I still got six more seasons of Love Island: Nebulan Edition to binge before you go messing slag up again!" Another voice screeched out, sounded more high-pitched and ambiguous than the other two.

There was a moment of silence before the datapad was picked up off the floor. Purple digits could be seen wiping off the imaginary dirt as the unknown bot's face reappeared on screen, a little further away, as though the datapad were being held at a distance.

Suddenly, a little bot appeared on Starscream's lap. Swindle heard Starscream talk to someone and got curious. He thought that it was Skywarp, that he'll finally see the bot that Starscream mentioned to him so many times. But instead, he found a completely different looking bot. He let out a disappointed chirp when Starscream looked down, as if telling him that he wanted to see Skywarp.

Starscream patted the little one's head and quietly cooed to him.

... the datapad is far too small. He should find a planet that has bigger options. Maybe he'd be able to draw better. He also doesn't know what moths are.

Starscream: "Is that...me?!"

He was impressed and flattered as he admired the art. But it flickered back to the stranger again.

Whenever TC came around, they'd sit in Starscream's makeshift nest (made so that Swindle didn't have to climb on the bed) and the only thing that Starscream could focus on was that Thundercracker was here with him. He tried listening to the sorrows of the blue bird, but was too tired to answer. He felt bad for the smaller one. He also seemed exhausted.

Sometimes, he just wanted to curl up next to him and just fall asleep, hoping that the other one would follow and also get some rest. Other times, he wanted to hold something soft. But running his servo through his short fluff wasn't satisfying. What seemed satisfying were TC's wings. Oh, those fluffy, feathery wings. There were days when Thundercracker visited, when he couldn't tear his optics off of them, remembering the day when he used to clean those wings. The way it felt to have his hands buried in them. He wondered if it would feel the same, if he buried his face in them. He wondered if Thundercracker would let him do that. He wondered...if Thundercracker would also like to bury his short fluff...but those were some weird, tired thoughts.

Today was unfortunately one of those days when Starscream fantasised about Thundercracker's wings, while they talked.

Out of all the worlds he had been to and all the bots he had met on his journey, Starscream and his world was Thundercracker's favorite. He had looked there already and hadn't found what he was looking for. It made sense to move on. Thundercracker had to move on. His time wasn't unlimited, after all.

And yet, he kept coming back. He didn't know why, he just did. He found himself stepping through the portal more and more often. And more and more often, Thundercracker was sitting in that warm nest with Swindle and Starscream.

His own universe had tired him out. There was no way to explain his increasing absence to Megatron and Starscream, not without telling them about his plans, or how he had been able to jump worlds in the first place. They couldn't do anything about it, but the war was at a desperate breaking point. So when Thundercracker was around, they gave him all the work they had to spare.

Being away more and more often meant having to cram his duties in the few days he was at home, leaving him utterly exhausted. Thundercracker would go back to Starscream's world, just to take a breather, just to spend a few moments in soft, warm peace. Those little moments in between lives, worlds, in the lapses that the war gave them. Those soft breaths, that soft red frame, those gentle yet strong servos, the wings that brushed onto his own, that was Thundercracker's peace. The only peace he could find these days.

He had only met Starscream recently, but he was his closest friend. Skywarp was gone for good, Thundercracker had accepted by now. Starscream wasn't too far behind. His Starscream, anyway.

Starscream: "So, um...I thought and...since we are good friends and...you didn't get any good sleep in the past few days..."

He looked away, contemplating whether or not to continue. But he already started, so why should he stop?

Starscream: "Would you...want to spend a night in this universe...? Like...what did Alexis call it that once...?"

He looked down at Swindle and the little one beeped something out. Something only Starscream could understand.

Starscream: "Right! A sleepover. So... would you like to...have a sleepover, Thundercracker...?"

He asked him so gently, looking up at him with pleading optics, a softened smile from the big one he had when the minicon told him the world he forgot and a little blush from the embarrassment of asking for such a foolish thing. He knew that TC might not accept. He knew that he could find it weird, since it was a human thing. But there was also a little piece of hope, that pushed him to promote the sleepover idea more.

Starscream: "We could watch a movie. Alexis told me about them. They're like a story, but in moving pictures. It's a video, but it's not in real time, but rather cut to make that story. And the humans in it aren't the real characters, but pretend to be them. She also showed me a poster, even though it was too small for me, about the summer cinema...under the stars. Or at least that's what she said was written on it. We can also stay up late, though...I don't think you want that...I don't want it either...So we can skip that. I can let you sleep in the nest and I'll take Swindle into my bed, so he won't disturb you."

He explained with excitement. He would have some fun with the person he wanted to spend all the time with and they'd both get sleep!

The truth was, Starscream felt the most like home.

"Oh... that sounds wonderful," Thundercracker said shyly. "I would love to spend the night here."

He looked into Starscream's amber optics and felt a blush settling on his face. This was a little bit embarrassing. He was a fully grown bot and a soldier of several million years! Thundercracker shouldn't be having sleep troubles so bad his friend noticed and took pity on him... Pity... that must be why Starscream had offered. And embarrassment... that must be why he felt so warm.

"I wouldn't mind watching a movie," he said. Though he was tired, he could use a distraction. Thundercracker remembered the movies he used to watch with Skywarp and Starscream back home on Cybertron. Those had been nice. Back before anything had happened. "Maybe tomorrow, though. We're both tired."

Upon hearing Starscream's next words, he insisted, "No, it's alright! I don't mind you and Swindle staying in the nest with me... It's big enough for all of us."

So he wants to sleep here for two nights? That's alright with Starscream. That's more than alright with Starscream! He gets two nights to figure out how to subtly hold the precious one in front of him, without the same bot noticing.

He wants to run his servo through those soft feathers, while they fall asleep. He wants to hold him close to himself, to let him bury his face in his own softness. He wants to whisper to him how everything will be alright, how they'll both find peace eventually. But he won't find it. Since he already sees it, sitting right in front of him, yet it's so far away in an unreachable place. But he'll get there once. He'll get to the unreachable and hold the peace close to his spark, to let it listen. All two nights.

Starscream: "alright...we can go tomorrow evening..."

He was quiet, nervous. But soon, he spoke again.

Starscream: "L-let's just go to sleep-"

He exclaimed and whistled for the small bot, who was currently playing in the corner of Starscream habitat, to come over for bedtime. He then proceeded to curl up, like a cat, to leave enough space for Thundercracker, who may be nervous and uncomfortable with the closeness. But he deeply hoped that that's not the case. That he'll wrap himself around him. That he'll tell him to lay normally. That Starscream will at least see a glimpse of pleading for closeness in the bird's optics.

There was nothing left for him in his home world. And he had no idea what awaited him further out in the cosmos, in the endless multiverse that he had only just begun to explore. There was nothing left for him anywhere that he knew of.

So Thundercracker would take the peace and warmth where he could find it. He would take the company of the one bot he trusted to care about him and that he trusted himself to care for. He wanted many things.

He wanted to stay here and make sure Starscream was safe and happy. He wanted to wrap his arms and wings around the red bot as they both drifted off to sleep. He wanted to hear Starscream's spark beat against his own, nothing between them but their own metal.

But Thundercracker wasn't brave like that. He wasn't bold like that. He yearned silently but he said nothing. He did not want to ruin what they had now, precious as it was to him.

"Sure, that sounds like fun," Thundercracker replied. "But let's sleep now..."

He watched as Swindle ran over to Starscream, who curled up in a tight ball in one corner of the nest. "Lay normally!" Thundercracker said. "I don't mind being... being next to. you."

Starscream: "Of course, dove!"

He exclaimed, not noticing the nickname he used. He was thinking of various of them, that he'd use if this happened more often.

He immediately straightened up to lie next to him properly. After that, he couldn't take his optics off of the beautiful one in front of him. He dimmed his optics, to not make Thundercracker that uncomfortable. After a while of replaying the moment in his mind, he realized his slip up. Dove. Primus, this wasn't what he could've said to keep it subtle. Frag.

But he didn't give up and just lay there, as if nothing happened. If he messed up by turning around and talking all night, he wouldn't get anywhere with this. So he decided to continue.

His servo slithered to plave it into the servo of the other, digits snaking around it, keeping a firm, yet gentle hold on it, hoping the other won't comment on it.

"Thanks, moth," he whispered back, daring to be a little bold. He immediately regretted it. Thundercracker wasn't a smooth talker or anything like that and the words that came out of his own mouth seemed horribly awkward. He had probably ruined the moment...

And yet, he felt Starscream's hand slither into his own, digits interlocking with his own, a perfect fit. The grip was firm, strong, but gentle all the way through. Thundercracker shivered again, tensing, but not out of discomfort. He didn't know what to say, but his fans did turn up another notch... He really had to get that under control.

His gentle smile, his beautiful. His glittering optics were beautiful. His blue paint job, reminding him of the deep blue of the sky, was beautiful. The bird wings...he adored those the most. He could talk about them for hours a day. Their soft texture, the sheer size, the color palette, he loved it all.

And when those wings draped over his frame, it was the best thing in the universe. Their weight and softness, bringing him closer to sleep than anything else.

He gave the soft, precious hand a squeeze, trying to be subtle, to not squeeze too much.

After a while of just staring at the bot, who shared the nest with him, he decided to scoot closer, resting his forehead against Thundercracker's back. But soon after, he stirred again and pressed himself more against him. Then he felt the gentle press of Thundercracker's frame. That woke him from the affectionate trance.

He wondered...if Thundercracker would also like to bury his short fluff...but those were some weird, tired thoughts.

Today was unfortunately one of those days when Starscream fantasised about Thundercracker's wings, while they talked.

Out of all the worlds he had been to and all the bots he had met on his journey, Starscream and his world was Thundercracker's favorite. He had looked there already and hadn't found what he was looking for. It made sense to move on. Thundercracker had to move on. His time wasn't unlimited, after all.

And yet, he kept coming back. He didn't know why, he just did. He found himself stepping through the portal more and more often. And more and more often, Thundercracker was sitting in that warm nest with Swindle and Starscream.

His own universe had tired him out. There was no way to explain his increasing absence to Megatron and Starscream, not without telling them about his plans, or how he had been able to jump worlds in the first place. They couldn't do anything about it, but the war was at a desperate breaking point. So when Thundercracker was around, they gave him all the work they had to spare.

Being away more and more often meant having to cram his duties in the few days he was at home, leaving him utterly exhausted. Thundercracker would go back to Starscream's world, just to take a breather, just to spend a few moments in soft, warm peace. Those little moments in between lives, worlds, in the lapses that the war gave them. Those soft breaths, that soft red frame, those gentle yet strong servos, the wings that brushed onto his own, that was Thundercracker's peace. The only peace he could find these days.

He had only met Starscream recently, but he was his closest friend. Skywarp was gone for good, Thundercracker had accepted by now. Starscream wasn't too far behind. His Starscream, anyway.

Starscream: "So, um...I thought and...since we are good friends and...you didn't get any good sleep in the past few days..."

He looked away, contemplating whether or not to continue. But he already started, so why should he stop?

Starscream: "Would you...want to spend a night in this universe...? Like...what did Alexis call it that once...?"

He looked down at Swindle and the little one beeped something out. Something only Starscream could understand.

Starscream: "Right! A sleepover. So... would you like to...have a sleepover, Thundercracker...?"

He asked him so gently, looking up at him with pleading optics, a softened smile from the big one he had when the minicon told him the world he forgot and a little blush from the embarrassment of asking for such a foolish thing. He knew that TC might not accept. He knew that he could find it weird, since it was a human thing. But there was also a little piece of hope, that pushed him to promote the sleepover idea more.

Starscream: "We could watch a movie. Alexis told me about them. They're like a story, but in moving pictures. It's a video, but it's not in real time, but rather cut to make that story. And the humans in it aren't the real characters, but pretend to be them. She also showed me a poster, even though it was too small for me, about the summer cinema...under the stars. Or at least that's what she said was written on it. We can also stay up late, though...I don't think you want that...I don't want it either...So we can skip that. I can let you sleep in the nest and I'll take Swindle into my bed, so he won't disturb you."

He explained with excitement. He would have some fun with the person he wanted to spend all the time with and they'd both get sleep!

The truth was, Starscream felt the most like home.

"Oh... that sounds wonderful," Thundercracker said shyly. "I would love to spend the night here."

He looked into Starscream's amber optics and felt a blush settling on his face. This was a little bit embarrassing. He was a fully grown bot and a soldier of several million years! Thundercracker shouldn't be having sleep troubles so bad his friend noticed and took pity on him... Pity... that must be why Starscream had offered. And embarrassment... that must be why he felt so warm.

"I wouldn't mind watching a movie," he said. Though he was tired, he could use a distraction. Thundercracker remembered the movies he used to watch with Skywarp and Starscream back home on Cybertron. Those had been nice. Back before anything had happened. "Maybe tomorrow, though. We're both tired."

Upon hearing Starscream's next words, he insisted, "No, it's alright! I don't mind you and Swindle staying in the nest with me... It's big enough for all of us."

So he wants to sleep here for two nights? That's alright with Starscream. That's more than alright with Starscream! He gets two nights to figure out how to subtly hold the precious one in front of him, without the same bot noticing.

He wants to run his servo through those soft feathers, while they fall asleep. He wants to hold him close to himself, to let him bury his face in his own softness. He wants to whisper to him how everything will be alright, how they'll both find peace eventually. But he won't find it. Since he already sees it, sitting right in front of him, yet it's so far away in an unreachable place. But he'll get there once. He'll get to the unreachable and hold the peace close to his spark, to let it listen. All two nights.

Starscream: "alright...we can go tomorrow evening..."

He was quiet, nervous. But soon, he spoke again.

Starscream: "L-let's just go to sleep-"

He exclaimed and whistled for the small bot, who was currently playing in the corner of Starscream habitat, to come over for bedtime. He then proceeded to curl up, like a cat, to leave enough space for Thundercracker, who may be nervous and uncomfortable with the closeness. But he deeply hoped that that's not the case. That he'll wrap himself around him. That he'll tell him to lay normally. That Starscream will at least see a glimpse of pleading for closeness in the bird's optics.

Whenever TC came around, they'd sit in Starscream's makeshift nest (made so that Swindle didn't have to climb on the bed) and the only thing that Starscream could focus on was that Thundercracker was here with him. He tried listening to the sorrows of the blue bird, but was too tired to answer. He felt bad for the smaller one. He also seemed exhausted.

Sometimes, he just wanted to curl up next to him and just fall asleep, hoping that the other one would follow and also get some rest. Other times, he wanted to hold something soft. There were days when Thundercracker visited, when he couldn't tear his optics off of them, remembering the day when he used to clean those wings. The way it felt to have his hands buried in them. He wondered if it would feel the same, if he buried his face in them. He wondered if Thundercracker would let him do that. He wondered...if Thundercracker would also like to bury his short fluff...but those were some weird, tired thoughts.
