this probably makes no sense, but modern fandom culture is so different to how it was like 10-15 years ago, in that modern fandoms typically expect The Thing They Are Fans Of to do all of the work for them
everybody is too lazy for subtext and needs to be told directly. everybody expects every story to be about their favourite side characters rather than looking at fan works. everyone expects More from what an author often considers a Complete Package
i dont consider myself to be part of any Fandom fandom, but i've definitely noticed this kind of shift over time in the things ive liked over the years
