forgive   me   ,    forgive   me   ,    forgive   me,        𝘪   𝘢𝘮   𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨   𝘵𝘰   𝘥𝘰   𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳   𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘴   𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨   𝘪   𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥   𝘵𝘰   𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘦   𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.

𝐄𝐋𝐑𝐈𝐂 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐀𝐍 𝐔𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐀 𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐊𝐔𝐋𝐋. his slanted eyes, crimson and moody, were oft troubled, his mind plagued by it's own lassitudinous curiosity, while a set of boney limbs inelegantly rattled his frame. this was not a picture painted by his mother, who by all accounts had been a beauty on her deathbed, nor by his father, who had born all the regal markings of their lineage with ease. in truth none could say where this strangeness in the young emperor came from, though certain rumors continued to reach far beyond the wyvren point ── tales of profane rituals, where the blood of twelve virgins was drunk by dark stones. whispers of hungry gods who took human flesh, and the strange savage race who venerated divine atrocity by their rulers' hands.

in sailing west, finding these echoes of home had been a bemusing discovering for him, while less pleasant was the growing sense that he could reach the edges of the known world and still be alone in his own mind. he did not startle when @morninglcry approached him, but rather stilled, back gone rigid like a small child caught with sticky fingers.

there were assumptions that could be drawn out from his tone; a certain playful punditry, and well-worn melancholy. all the bitter pangs one would expect from family, which changed little despite distance and culture. ❝ ... do you ever think of all the mysteries untouched by the sea? i wonder how people live in the forests of qohor, or the lands where sarnor used to be. hard to think that a century of blood could erase so much history. ❞

LADY RHAENA SAYS╭┈➤. ❝ i don't think i've ever seen you smile.

And   just   like   that,   on   the   horizon,   the   crown   of   the   moon   crests   what   had   felt   like   a   dark   and   dreary   night.   Somehow,   the   Lady   Rhaena   has   coaxed   a   smile   from   those   firm,   unyielding   lips   of   his,   so   often   set   in   a   scowl   or   a   grimace.   To   say   he   isn't   an   extremely   beautiful   person,   whether   he   smiles   or   grouses,   would   be   a   lie.   Though   she   has   a   preference   for   darker   hair   and   richer   complexions,   she   is   as   Valyrian   touched   as   they   come.   His   coloring   is   comely,   and   his   temperament   is    .   .   .    familiar.   There   is   something   in   him,   in   his   manner,   that   holds   the   lady’s   attention.

There   are   many,   many   beautiful   people   in   this   world,   truly.   The   world   itself   is   lovely   and   vibrant.   Life   is   hard,   but   there   is   a   rare   beauty   buried   deep   within   it.   From   towering   mountains   to   dark,   rolling   waves,   this   world   is   a   sight   to   be   witnessed.   And   in   a   world   so   extraordinary,   there   are   bound   to   be   people   just   as   striking.   Elric   is   gorgeous   .   .   .   the   frown   does   little   to   take   away   from   it.   But   the   world   is   vast. 

That   ruffle   between   his   brow,   furrowing   even   now   as   he   smiles,   brings   her   to   reminisce.   The   queen   that   could   have   been   curls   both   of   her   hands   tightly   before   her,   a   pose   some   have   said   makes   her   seem   as   innocent   as   a   little   white   lily.

❛        Contrary   to   what   my   elders   may   have   said   or   have   to   say   later,   I   hold   no   such   delusions   that   you   must   ingratiate   to   me   for   there   to   be   something   to   gain   between   our   houses.   This   is   prosperity   that   could   last   generations,   if   the   menfolk   have   any   sense.        ❜        And   they   do   not.   It   is   heavily   implied   by   the   way   her   lips   purse,   by   the   brief   flick   of   her   eyes.   Rhaena   moves   to   take   hold   of   the   taffrail,   looking   out   into   the   great   blue   sea.

❛        I   wish   I   could   fly   Morning   far,   far   into   the   distance   and   see   what   there   is   to   see.   Perhaps   I   could   take   my   dragon   and   convince   some   tiny,   closed-off   kingdom   that   I   am   a   great   and   terrible   calamity,   come   to   take   advantage   of   their   hospitality   before   I   depart   for   the   next   city.        ❜        How   easily   she   might   have   said   she   would   rain   down   fire   upon   man   until   all   worth   conquering   had   been   claimed   by   her   hand.   The   crown,   any   crown,   is   nothing   but   heartbreak.   truly.   Soft   lilac   hues   drop   to   her   twiddling   thumbs.   She   looks   serene   standing   there.   What   troubles   could   someone   with   a   full   stomach   and   a   dragon   possibly   have   to   worry   about?   Rhaena   sighs   softly,   her   shoulders,   once   held   as   straight   as   a   rod,   lowering   just   slightly.   The   lady   is   tired.   So   very,   very   tired.

❛        A   bird   cannot   escape   one   cage   without   being   led   straight   into   another,   merely   trading   ownership   as   though   it   were   a   thing   rather   than   something   with   a   beating   heart.   The   blood   of   a   dragonlord   burns   in   my   veins,   and   yet,   no   different   than   a   dragon,   I   am   kept   by   some   unknown   magic.        ❜           A   morbid   thought   crosses   her   mind.   Perhaps   women   make   for   such   talented   riders   because   it   is   an   unspoken   truth   that   woman   and   dragon   alike   are   treated   as   pets   to   the   men   who   bend   them   to   their   whims,   like   mares   to   be   broken   and   controlled.   How   terrible.   What   kind   of   ugly   melancholy   dares   to   creep   in   and   ruin   such   a   lovely   day   upon   the   open   sea?

Rhaena   visibly   straightens,   returning   to   the   same   grace   she   held   only   moments   ago,   and   offers   a   bright,   easy   smile   to   him   and   to   the   ocean.

❛        I   have   high   hopes   that   the   food   is   good   where   we   are   traveling.   I   would   love   a   roasted,   honeyed   ham,   truly.        ❜
