Malachi 4 “ 5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet

Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

6And he will turn

The hearts of the fathers to the children,

And the hearts of the children to their fathers,

Malachi 4 begins like this:

The great day of god burns away all who do wickedly.

1“For behold, the day is coming,

Burning like an oven,

And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.

And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”

Says the Lord of hosts,

“That will leave them neither root nor branch.

2But to you who fear My name

The Sun of Righteousness shall arise

With healing in His wings;

And you shall go out

And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

3You shall trample the wicked,

For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet

On the day that I do this,”

Says the Lord of hosts.

4“Remember the Law of Moses, My servant,

Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel,

Evil men do evil things in darkness and the truth can withstand the light of scrutiny.

We are building the kingdom of god every day in Nauvoo with our actions. Together. So we uncover the wickedness within ourselves and within our community. Make our hearts a garden where the sun of righteousness burns away every evil root and branch and leaves only truth.

The hearts of the children are entrusted to us by god himself the greatest gift or new life and possibility — dwelling in our house to teach love. Woe be any who causes these little ones to sin. I don’t have the sea, but I have a millstone and the mighty Mississippi.

Our own society encourages us to pretend that magic is free in similar ways. “I worked hard, I got paid, and I bought this iPhone. It’s magic! And it’s mine!” But we know, we all know deep down, that much of the actual costs are being paid by other people somewhere else, or will be paid by you in the future and in your children’s future.

Magic isn’t free. Whenever there is real magic, someone pays for it. And trying to claw apart the story to get to that truth, to expose and show that truth on a visceral level, is part of what I’m trying to do.
