Merry Christmas! Here's a throwback to Christmas past... when my son was a wee one and I was into giant necklaces. I hope you're having a blessed day with friends and loved ones. I'm forever grateful for the gift of the One who was promised, and the fact that we still get to celebrate him 2000 years later.

This is my favorite night of the year. As a child, it was the anticipation of what would be in my stocking the next morning, the thrill of wondering if Santa had remembered all those gifts I had whispered in his ear only days before. There were years I could hardly sleep on Christmas Eve for the excitement of what would transpire the next morning. As an adult, that anticipation has never waned, but it's a very different expectation that delights my heart now. It's family and light and joy and memories. It's togetherness and chaos and laughter and delight. But most of all, the thrill of anticipation remains for me as I reflect on the reason we have Christmas at all. The knowing that two millennia ago, the Creator bothered to show up as a man--a pauper, a nobody--and then change the whole world. So tonight, as you gather around the fire, as you listen to the sounds of tiny feet or laughter, or perhaps as you reflect on the memories of Christmases past, don't forget to keep the magic, the very reason for this season deep within your heart. Only then will the anticipation remain.
