Job Title: Children's Book Illustrator
Project: Sebastian and His Androids] - A Children's Book Featuring Android Robots and finding a place we belong.
About the Project:
We are seeking a talented and versatile illustrator to bring to life a captivating children's book featuring android robots. This heartwarming story, written by a first-time children's book author with a background in fiction writing, explores themes of empathy, belonging, and overcoming adversity.
Inspired by the author's personal experiences with homelessness, grief, and poverty, the book will address sensitive topics such as housing insecurity and bullying in a compassionate and educational manner. The story follows a group of android robots as they navigate challenges and learn the importance of kindness, understanding, and finding their place in the world.
Responsibilities:
Create approximately 100 illustrations for an 80-page children's book.
Design book covers (softcover, hardcover, dust jacket).
Contribute illustrations for promotional materials (posters, flyers, press kits, etc.).
Collaborate closely with the writer/project manager throughout the project.
Participate in weekly production meetings.
Be available for minor edits and revisions as needed.
(Optional) Participate in the creation of a documentary film capturing the book's development and publication.
Project Timeline:
January 2025: Project Launch & Website Launch
February 2025: Character Sketch Submissions (due by 28th)
March 10, 2025: Character Sketch Selection & First Milestone Payment (10 pages)
March-September 2025: Ongoing Illustration Work with Weekly Check-ins
September 2025: Book Completion & Submission to Publishers
October 2025: Book Release & Launch Events
September 2025 - July 2026: Marketing & Promotional Activities (Optional Artist Participation)
Qualifications:
Proven experience in illustration with a strong portfolio showcasing diverse styles and mediums (collage, charcoal, digital, acrylic, oil, photography, etc.).
Ability to work within deadlines and collaborate effectively with a team.
Passion for children's literature and a strong understanding of visual storytelling.
Sensitivity and empathy for the themes explored in the book (homelessness, bullying, grief, poverty).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Deadline for Applications: February 14th will be the last day we will accept artist submission packages for work on the book and promotion materials. We will be selecting the illustrations and artwork for the different parts of the project with our main artist starting no later than Jan 2, 2025. Our open submission period has begun and the sooner you submit the better the chance to work on the project.
About Us:
This project is funded through grants and community fundraising. The author, an accomplished musician and novelist, draws inspiration from personal experiences to create a compassionate and educational resource. This is her first children's book. She has written three novels in different genres and a non fiction essay compilation. She runs a small non profit organization and has lived a very interesting life. She is turning 50 in 2026.
