SUPER random but do you remember that really whack aftershave Ian used to wear i know it was like japanese or something but it was so goofy 😭😭😭
This absolute monstrosity is what you're thinking of.
I have never wanted to read a book so desperately - to see life laid out by the individual themself; no interpretations, no alterations, and certainly no speculations regarding language or incentives, just a raw and unedited stream of consciousness.
From a psychological standpoint this is incredibly rare and invaluable.

Spent a fair amount of time trying to clean up this audio, I managed to remove Alan's voice and enhance Ian's - but there is a high pitch phone feedback whine at the end that proved elusive to remove, so headphone warning for that.
sorry i know you were prob enjoying the quiet life ahah but i wondered if you still had all the newspaper stuff - i think you posted a lot of it on your old acc??
also what was brady like with you when you spoke?
It's perfectly fine, Some of the questions i've been asked have been rather interesting and thought provoking thus far.
To answer your questions; Yes I still have a lot of the newspaper clippings, a few of them got water damaged but the majority of them survived.
And as for what he was like with me; He was highly informative, I often wondered how he knew about a lot of the papers/articles he was suggesting that I read, given his reported 'limited access'. What shocked me most was his interest in me as a person, he wanted to know what I liked besides academia, what my family was like, and what I hoped to achieve in life.
He did send me an article or two, but I have absolutely no idea where I put them, I assume they're mixed in with all the other academic literature that is scattered around.
The difference in handwriting here is fascinating.
Of course I know one is more about branding and displaying a very clear ownership, and the other is a mere book annotation. I just find his ability to switch between such polar opposite writing styles extremely interesting.
If you wanted to get technical this could speak to his personality shifts and neuroplasticity.

Of course he had a gigantic poster of 'Natural Born Killers' in his cell, i'm starting to think his room at Ashworth was like a teenage boy's bedroom...
Andy as Ian in Longford (2006)
It was beyond fascinating to hear Ian's voice after so long. It was a stark difference from the low tone heard on the tapes during the interviews with Fred Harrison. But for me, these sound bites certainly confirmed what a staggering number of nurses have been stating over the many years regarding his intelligence and status.
The documentary itself was surprising, and I admittedly learned a few things. However, it came as no surprise that Ian himself was borderline obsessed with his own notoriety and what was being said about him in the plethora of books that were being published.
His interest in himself seemed to have sustained his mental health through the decades of living in close quarters with a substantial amount of patients / inmates who would do almost anything to get five minutes alone with him. I couldn't help but think about how mentally taxing it must have been to have questioned every piece of food that crossed your plate and whether it had been tampered with.
Reports were made during his time that his food and drinks were indeed tampered with, I cannot recall the reference but there was mention of an instance where instead of sugar in his tea, it was instead ground down and powdered glass - which he famously survived and caused zero complications for him.

Brady ranted: “£250,000 wasted by Ashworth medical mediocrities manipulating a politically motivated tribunal... designed to distract public attention from the lack of reasoned argument and pertinent evidence.”
Brady, who is said to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, even suggested the public should sympathise with him.
Dr Collins described Brady as "psychopathic and prone to narcissism, egocentricity, histrionics, obsessionality, need for control, paranoia, litigiousness, lack of remorse, and lack of empathy".
In the past he had referred to receiving a “massive psychological boost” from earlier hunger strikes, which he saw as “a battle of wills.”
Brady started his hunger strike in after he was moved without warning from one ward in Ashworth to another, by a six man control and restraint team in balaclava helmets and full riot gear. His right arm was reportedly fractured in the move.
