I personally really like to headcanon that both Murdoc and 2D (and their fem versions) overgrown their hair into a complete mess during phase 3.

In my fem 2D version she usually keeps her long unkept hair in a messy ponytail. (And Fem Murdoc just dgaf and barely touches it at all)

Overgrowing her hair shows that 2D is literally mentally not present (from pill withdrawal, migraines etc.) and also doesn’t want to be at all (due to Margot’s abuse)

It’s also a clear physical sign of deterioration. Like an overgrown garden that no one bothers to take care of.

Plus, it’s quite a nice metaphor that after plastic beach and her return to England, she finally cuts her hair as a symbol of trying to leave the memories behind (after all, there is a saying that hair holds memories)

It looks much better, less grainy than the green marker color he had in phase 6 (which I REALLY dislike) and also gives more rotten corpse vibes.

Phases 2-3 is ideal Murdoc skin tone for me, I use them a lot for reference.

(Also tan Murdoc in phase 1.. yum..)

But not matter how obnoxiously green he’ll become, it will never be as evil as..

Hii twin!!! I’m glad you asked :] I adore 2Doc fics lol ever since last summer I dedicated a ridiculous amount of time for them.. here’s some of my favs, all on AO3:

-“The devil and Stuart pot” by Witty-fool, my favourite long form 2Doc fic of all time. Absolutely nails their dynamic, and the second fic ever to make me audibly laugh from its sillier moments. Though it gets darker in many instances. Takes place after phase 6. It deals with Murdoc’s mental health struggles after he finally decides to start a treatment process, and his romantic relationship with 2D that develops alongside it. It’s NOT a slow burn (yay!) It captures the struggles of mental illness and relapses so accurately and humanises it too. I don’t see many medias that humanise that kind of specific experience that is portrayed in there enough. That just shows it as, well, life. Honestly it’s my comfort fic. Currently there’s an epilogue being written, but the base fic is complete. I can’t do it justice by my description alone tbh, go read it for yourself :D

-“Can’t get back without you” by Superfast_jellybitch, a pretty sweet short multi chapter fic that shows 2D and Murdoc on the beginning of phase 4 coming to terms of how screwed their relationship is. Though it does start sour, things develop between the two throughout the fic. I read it all in one sitting and I remember enjoying it.

-“Ephemeral Euphoria” by Anonymous, an adorable one shot that is based on a specific canon twitter interaction between 2D and Murdoc post the “Momentary bliss” mv. It’s delectable I always enjoy revisiting it.

Overall, those are picks I really like! I hope you enjoy any of them lol
