Probably a stretch to say they'd canonically prevent at least mild pain in a campfire, but they absolutely do extinguish Sky/Link any time he catches fire in his game. Which is more often than you'd think >u< (for the purposes of the comic this is a completely pain-free prank for Sky lol)
My entry for LU March Madness 2026, Day 7: “That shouldn’t be flammable.” Thanks for the event @ixtaek !
The aftermath

This special is from a scene much further in the LU comic. It felt like a fitting way to reflect on the journey that started it all. What an impression it left, as we still feel that sense of adventure all these years later.
I’ve only seen a couple fanfics of a concept where they have the reader be unable to understand the Chain because the boys are speaking in Hylian and not English. What I haven’t seen is people utilizing that Twilight could potentially understand them because his Hylian is essentially English, whereas the others’s Hylian is essentially Japanese.
Twilight probably won’t understand modern slang. Maybe he can only understand Reader’s English when they’re sleepy or tipsy, so it sounds all scrambled. Inferring based on Midna’s voice clips in Twilight Princess where she’s actually speaking English, but bits of what she’s saying are spliced up and randomized. Since Hyrule is kinda a medieval fantasy land, imagine Twilight’s English sounding more like Shakespeare English + his slight country drawl/accent.

Things at home have changed ever since you found out you were pregnant.
There were already visible changes in your body when you realized you’re basically carrying Leon’s baby inside your tummy, and as the months passed by, so did the stages in your pregnancy that Leon’s present for, no matter how big or small that milestone would be.
For instance, when you started showing, Leon made it a point to talk to your belly every night before going to bed. It was uncharacteristic of him, but at the same time, it endears you how it fascinates him that you’re growing a life inside of you, a life that you and him created together with love.
He treats you so delicately as if you’re made of something so tender and fragile, but he doesn't treat you as if you're completely incapacitated.
He's made aware by your doctor that pregnancy can be very stressful for a woman, but with the right care and support, it can be a wonderful journey that all expecting parents can come to enjoy and appreciate. So far, you haven’t been struggling at all, except for the occasional morning sickness or two.
Your pregnancy journey’s been smooth, and the doctor often mentions that you’re practically glowing with life.
With every doctor’s appointment you’ve had, Leon does his best to be present given the nature of his work, always away in the field, working at headquarters—it does hinder him from being present all the time at every appointment.
But by the third appointment he’s missed during your second month, you’re extremely surprised by the big decision Leon’s made to accommodate this new adjustment in your lives.
Leon decided to retire early from the DSO.
He returned from work one evening, carrying a box filled with papers and items from his office, and when he set it down, he told you those words you didn’t think would materialize from your husband’s mouth.
“I’m retiring, love.”
You almost forgot how to breathe.
There were so many things to consider with Leon’s decision, and you almost feel very disappointed he hadn’t consulted you or told you about this. But even then, he already opened the idea to you, even before you were pregnant. He had told you he wanted to focus on the life you were building with him, without the constant worry of being away for work, or taking a lot of time in the office instead of being at home with you.
Leon had also been planning this for a while. He explained to you that because of his years of service rendered to the government, along with the numerous hazard pay and bonuses he’s accumulated over the years, you’re basically set for life, and that doesn’t even include his monthly federal pension and health insurance, which includes you and your future kids as dependents.
Should Leon want to return to the DSO, there will always be an opening for him, not as an agent, but maybe something less dangerous like a consultant, an advisor, or a training officer—teaching anti-bioterror units, survival tactics, or just even on field operations.
But for the most part, he had traded the chaos of field missions for a quieter life at home with you and your unborn baby.
It was a well-calculated plan. Because Leon considered you and your baby for most of his decision, you knew that this was perhaps the right call for the situation which would allow Leon to be present for you during your pregnancy, and even after that. Even more when you’ve already given birth to your child. Especially then.
You didn’t want to doubt him, but you half-believed, half-expected that Leon would want to return as an agent, will crave the missions again, but by the time your seventh month rolled around, you were completely, utterly wrong.
You were grateful for his patience and love for the past six months, because he’s been more present in everything, whether it be appointments or simple late-night cravings. But he’s become more dedicated towards you and your baby when he found the joy of creating do-it-yourself projects at home.
“What are you doing?” You ask as you open the door to the nursery, finding Leon sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor, a screwdriver in one hand and a shaft of wood on the other. “You’re already working on the crib?”
You’ve only bought it a while ago.
“Hm?” Leon looked up, his hands stilling. “You said it’ll take a while to build, honey. The model we picked out… it’s secure, yes, but I want to make sure it’s all properly assembled. I’ll start on the rocking chair afterwards, and maybe you could try it out, what do you say?”
“Sounds great,” you answer him, your hand falling over your belly, feeling a soft kick from your little one. “Can I do anything to help?”
Leon instantly shakes his head. He drops the tools first on the floor, before standing up and making his way towards you. Once he reaches you, he places a gentle palm on top of your belly above your sweater.
“I just want you to rest,” Leon says in earnest. “We walked around a lot at the store today, plus you’ve worn out your feet checking one shelf after another for baby clothes.” He chuckles softly.
You playfully roll your eyes. “You’re the one who indulges me, Leon. We basically brought home at least fifteen bags from earlier.”
“Hey, I just want to be prepared for our little girl.” he rubs delicate circles over the top of your belly. “Plus, remember that pinterest board you showed me with a ton of do-it-yourself-ers? That’s basically my entire to-do list right now.”
You can’t help but laugh softly. “Well you don’t have to make all of them, you know. I just have a few I want to have for our baby.” You explain.
“Well tell me all of them, and you’ll have them as soon as possible.” Leon promises, planning a soft kiss at the top of your head. “But for now, get some rest, okay? I’ll call you when the rocking chair’s done so you can try it.”
“Okay.”
You watch as he returns to his earlier spot, this time with more focus than you’ve ever seen, and he’s just attaching pieces of wood together. It endeared your heart to see him this dedicated. You love him more for it.
—
One evening, you wake up with the urge to pee. You open your eyes, adjusting to the dim light in your bedroom. When you turn to the side, you’re quite surprised to see that Leon’s awake at this hour, holding his tablet while he scrolls with his finger. He’s wearing his glasses, and when you stir, he looks at you immediately.
“Hey… do you need anything?” He sets the tablet down, turning towards you. “Water? A snack? A back rub?”
You shake your head, pushing yourself up to sit down. “No, I’m okay… I just need to pee. Why are you still up?”
“I’m on these parenting forums. Just reading a couple stuff, nothing too fancy. I’ve been looking at DIY projects too… I saw this portable diaper caddy and also a playpen, but I’m thinking I should start installing baby monitors first.”
You blinked, too sleepy to comprehend much of what he’s telling you right now. But you know he’s excitedly (although subtly) rambling on about the baby projects he’s been planning on making, and you know he’s got a list somewhere that includes all the things he wants to prepare before the baby arrives.
He continues, his voice focused but also intrigued. “I also read somewhere about how to install baby monitors the right way so their signal doesn’t get jammed. I’ll work on it later.”
You lean down to kiss his cheek. “Mmm… you’re such a handyman.” You murmur. “But don’t lose sleep over it, ‘kay? I’ll be down to help you later in the morning if—”
“No, baby… you just need to rest, yeah? Let me handle the woodwork and the heavy lifting. I want to do this, so please, let me?” He looks at your eyes, almost insisting, if not subtly pleading for you to let him be with his creative ambitions.
You chuckle sleepily, before nodding. “Hmm… okay, if you’re sure. But if I want something done, you better make sure you’re doing it,” you tease him.
Leon nods, smiling at you before pecking your lips. “What my wife wants, she will get. And that goes for our baby too.”
With that thought in mind, he returns to scrolling through online parenting and baby forums and even pinterest, even as he struggles to navigate it. You, on the other hand, waddle to the bathroom so you could use the toilet.
When you return and climb onto the bed, you merely kiss his cheek before you lie down again, this time, snuggling close to him, even as he stays awake, his mind alert and working more than ever.
He’s already bookmarked a couple websites, and later, he’s set to work on the baby monitors and he’s going to double check the hinges on the crib.
He’s not an overexcited dad-to-be, isn’t he?
He doesn’t think so.
—
After he installs the baby monitor, he tests it multiple times, going in every room inside the house because he wants to make sure that the signal works everywhere, even in the basement or outside in the backyard.
He’s also mounted blackout curtains in the nursery for the baby, since he read somewhere that babies sleep better in darker rooms. He used thicker curtain rods to make sure they’re locked into place.
The crib has been successfully assembled, and even the rocking chair you bought a few days ago sits still by the window of the nursery. Slowly but surely, the room is starting to come alive with the preparations you’ve been making, especially Leon, who insists on assembling everything so you don’t have to lift a finger.
The next time you find your husband working on a project, you see him in the backyard, smoothing and polishing off pieces of wood. You bring him a glass of iced tea, setting it on a nearby table before walking towards him.
Leon is shirtless, only wearing his jeans and boots, and you can see the veins in his arms and the muscles of his chest and abdomen in broad daylight. The sight makes your tummy flutter. He’s always been this attractive to you, but right now, it’s just messing with your hormones just a bit.
“Hey there handsome,” you greet, bringing him the glass of iced tea. “You’re working pretty hard… what are you making?”
Leon smiles as soon as he sees you approaching, and he sets down his tools before wiping his hands with a rag. “Hey yourself, beautiful. I’m just working on the dresser you showed me the other day. Figured you’d need some place to put baby clothes in. I’m just makin’ sure it won’t splinter or anything.”
“You know you don’t actually have to build everything I show you,” you say to him with a smile.
Leon polished another piece before tossing it slightly onto the table.
“Too late.”
You chuckle at him. “Well here’s something for you since you’ve been out all day here,” you hand him the glass, your eyes ogling his shoulders, his arms, his happy trail… but you catch yourself. “I made you iced tea.”
“Mhmm… thank you, angel. You’re so sweet to me.” Leon takes the beverage from you, sipping from it before he groans. “Now that’s nice.”
“You deserve it, after the hard work you’ve been putting into the nursery, the dresser, even the crib and the rocking chair and so much more,” you answer him, standing on your tip toes to plant a soft kiss to his cheek. “Thank you, honey.”
“Don’t mention it, baby. For you and our little girl, I would build anything.”
“Just don’t overdo it okay?” You remind him gently. “I don’t want you straining yourself.”
You know he isn’t straining himself. You know this is what he needs after he retired from the DSO. You know Leon’s changed his purpose in life, from saving those around him from evil, to making sure your baby has the best life possible, and that you’re comfortable and safe at every stage of your pregnancy, and even after that.
“The only strain I’ll be doing around here is when my neck hurts from looking at you all day.”
—
By your eighth month into your pregnancy journey, Leon has successfully babyproofed your entire house.
He has installed outlet covers, cabinet locks, furniture anchors, and even corner guards on tables, which are all essential in making sure your home is safe and sound for a baby coming soon.
You watch him pour hours into every project, and he’s been rather thorough in reading safety guidelines for the furniture you bought, and even the other electronic devices that you will be using for the baby’s arrival. The nursery was ready—and Leon checked it everyday to see if he had missed something, which he hadn’t. He had basically memorized the layout of the nursery, of where you placed the items and all that whatnot.
He was attaching a few shelves to the walls which he made himself without breaking a sweat. You showed him a tiktok video of it the other day, something with a cream color with hooks to where you can hang the baby’s outfit for the day, and other items.
Pushing the door gently, you lean against the doorframe, you and that belly of yours that protrudes every shirt you have. A sliver of skin peeks from underneath the fabric of one of Leon’s old, smaller shirts that you love wearing because it smells like him, and it’s so much comfier.
You fold your arms across your chest, waiting for Leon to finish adjusting the shelves and decorating them with a small, pink stuffed animal and some baby books you bought last week, something about baby ducks and baby bears and the stars that twinkle high in the sky.
“Looks good in here,” you muse at him, your lips curling into a delicate smile. “Are you almost done there, honey?”
Your eyes scan the room, taking in the shelves, the dresser he’s made, the changing table he assembled along with a bunch of other small furniture. There’s the rocking chair and the crib, and the rug that he insisted he wash thoroughly to make sure it didn’t bring any outside bacteria in the nursery.
The milk bottles are ready, along with diapers and baby wipes that you have stashed underneath the changing table, inside its compartment. Baby clothes are folded neatly inside the dresser, and even your breast pump has been tinkered around with by Leon, making sure it won’t make you feel uncomfortable.
The only thing missing is your baby, who will arrive soon in just a couple of weeks.
Your eyes fall onto Leon once more. His brows are furrowed in concentration, hands adjusting the shelves until they are at least zero degrees flat. Then, he turns towards you, his expression softening as he sees you, especially in his shirt.
“Hey angel,” he cooed, dusting his hands off his jeans before walking towards you. Leon embraces you then, burying his face into your neck, inhaling deeply. “How are my favorite girls doin’, hm?”
“We’re okay, we just miss daddy,” you answer softly, taking one of his hands and leading them to your tummy. Your baby is clearly kicking. “We’ve been waiting for you since a while ago.”
Leon pulls away, lightly apologetic. “Sorry baby, I got distracted, just wanted to put up these shelves and then I’m all yours.” He murmurs against your neck, the stubble of his jaw tickling your skin. “But I’m done now.”
You melt into his embrace before pulling away after a couple of seconds. Leon straightens up, before he looks around, and you can see something unreadable in his expression. Something akin to longing, but filled with so much more love.
He’s thinking about your daughter.
The baby growing inside your tummy.
“I’ve double-checked everything. The baby monitor, the mobile hanging over the crib, the bassinet, even the car seat’s already installed… I think we’re all set, angel. I don’t think we’ve missed something,” he says, his voice oddly wistful.
You recognize it immediately. You reach up and squeeze his arm reassuringly. “We’ll have so much more to work with once the baby’s here. You don’t have to worry about running out of things to do.” You laugh quietly.
Leon gives you a wry smile. “I know that… but these projects, it’s okay for me to make a mistake because I can just start over or see where it went wrong. But not with our baby. Not with our little girl. I can’t afford to make a mistake. What if I gave her the wrong formula? Or what if I ended up hurting her—”
“Hey, none of that,” you cut him off gently, reaching out to cup his cheek, turning his gaze towards yours. “We’re first-time parents, Leon. We’re bound to make mistakes, but at least we’re in this together, right?”
When he nods at you, you continue, thumb circling his cheek. “I know you’re anxious, love. I’ve seen you read a lot of those online parenting forums, but you don’t have to worry much because each parents’ experiences are unique. We’ll be alright, hon. I know we will be. Because you’re here for me and I’m here for you. We’re in this together. All three of us.”
Leon exhales a sigh before he pulls you into an embrace once more. He pecks your temple, his breath ghosting over your ear after. “I don’t say this much, but I’m scared shitless of screwing this up… I don’t always make the best decisions, but I married you, and now we’re having a baby together, and I’d like to think that you’re singlehandedly the best decision of my entire life.”
You almost tear up at his words.
“I love you so much, Y/N. I will do my best to become the best father to our little girl, and the best husband to you. You have my word for it.”
You bury your face into his chest and hold onto him like he’s your safe anchor. “I love you too, Leon… always.”
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions for Leon as he prepared for your baby’s arrival. He’s gone through a series of feelings, from feeling focused, to determined, then to anxious and worried. He knows he’s gone through a lot worse, but nothing ever prepared him for when your daughter will finally be in the outside world with you.
Leon has made many mistakes in the past. Mistakes that cost him more than he can explain. Mistakes that still keep him up at night.
But with all the wrongs he made in his life, you are the one right thing that counters all of it.
You, and the miracle he calls your soon-to-be daughter.

Summary; hcs Yandere! Leon Re9 for his darling as same age as him or an age gap (10 years+)
Word count: 755
Cw: yandere
The ChaGold member, thank you, @alexex8sts as always for keeping me motivating to draw more :-)
Oh boy..
For sure, Leon has been around the block. You know, saving the world couple times is another daily life for Leon. Outbreaks? Checked. Beating Bioweapons? Easy, checked. Government agent? Expert of it, checked. Since the disaster of Racoon City, he learnt something for sure:
Anything he loves…will be in danger.
Leon is not pessimistic nor some paranoia, he claimed, either.
It is that an experience taught him in hard way.
If his darling is the same age as him:
I definitely guarantee that his yandere tendency dramatically develop over time… Well—presumably, you were there when the outbreak happened. Confusing, panicking, paranoid definitely—everyone running for their lives while the world collapsed around them. Still, Leon found and rescued you. Always protecting you like you and him knew each other for a whole life, even though you just met him like what… an hour ago? You thought— maybe it’s because he’s a police officer, so that’s why.
Leon has always been protective since then. It would look like nothing unusual because what you and Leon have been through together seemed understandable. It’s just simply part of who he is. Anyone who went through something like that would hold onto each other tightly. So it feels natural.
He walks slightly closer to you in a crowded street while his hand is always gently touching you— like making sure you won’t disappear in front of him.
You might think he’s just being cautious cause you know… trauma bonding.
Over time, his protectiveness grows deeper.
He remembers your schedule without trying. It is like you’re having a real-life reminder application all the time. Even if he’s out for a mission, he still finds time to message you. He notices when you change the usual route home, or when someone stares at you for a little too long.
He’s just simply… pays attention.
Because Leon knows, in his mind, if something ever happened to you again—
The world would become hell for everyone.
If his darling is younger than him (age gap: 10 years+):
Leon becomes consciously and painfully aware of the gap between your world and his.
He’s old. You’re young.
You still laugh easily at things. You still innocently believe that the world—despite everything— can be better.
Happy.
Sunshine.
Optimistic.
Such a naive view.
Leon wants to protect that.
He doesn’t like the idea of danger being anywhere near you. The mere thought of having someone or something harm you destroys him. He’s slowly getting rid of possibilities to protect your innocence. Leon makes sure that you wouldn’t notice the disappearance of… some friends—not like you have many in the first place, as Leon forbids it.
Not directly, of course.
He is the Leon S. Kennedy—a DSO agent. Careful planning is practically second nature to him.
Instead, it happens subtly.
Plans suddenly change. Invitations disappear. A friend who used to visit often now moves abroad to study. Or maybe they found a new job in another city which is extremely busy to message you. Maybe they simply… gone.
What a strange coincidence, really.
And every time you ask Leon about it because why not—he’s an agent, super good with investigation! He simply shrugs it off.
“People drift apart sometimes, baby.”
His voice is calm. Reassuring. Gentle.
Sometimes he calls you “baby.”
Sometimes “sweetheart.”
The words slip naturally from his mouth, warm and affectionate in a way that makes your chest feel lighter.
You believe him with all your heart.
Because why wouldn’t you?
Leon is the one who’s always there for you. The one who always shows up when things feel uncertain— it’s like he can read your mind! The one who’s always listening to you no matter what you say— not to mention he laughs at your jokes! — always!
To you, Leon is incredibly supportive.
To anyone else, Leon is so… terrifying.
There is something about Leon’s presence that makes everyone wonder. Like why his eyes always follow you. Or why every time your presence is here, Leon’s presence is also… somewhere near you.
So most people don’t dare to ask. They probably go along with it and keep their distance from you.
And Leon prefers it that way because the fewer people around you, the fewer risks exist.
Protecting you… is the only mission that truly matters.
As Leon gently brushes a strand of hair away from your face, his voice soft when he speaks.
“Careful there, sweetheart.”
— his hand lingers just a little longer than necessary.
Hello!! I haven't had the energy to make one of my usual writings, so please take this! Feedback is greatly appreciated <3 (,,,even if I'm way behind on asks, so sorry,,,)
CW: Platonic/parental yanderes, emotional manipulation, drugging, kidnapping, non-graphic physical violence, infantilization, grief, brief mentions of self-harm/self-destruction, abuse of power
Let me know if there are any more content warnings I should add!
Lavender is your therapist.
SYMBOLISM: Calmness, devotion, purity
He seems very kind and soft-spoken. Never does he make you feel judged or unsafe. In fact, just being around him makes you feel calm. If you tell him this, he'll be absolutely over the moon.
Over the start of your sessions, he feels a bit protective over you, more than with any of his other clients, but it isn't that big of a deal. It unravels slowly.
He starts noticing how he feels anything but calm during your sessions, unlike how he normally feels.
Someone wronged you in some way? He's livid. You might notice him gripping his journal tight, or even a shift in his expression.
You confess your insecurities? The rest of the session is filled with him giving you compliments and saying how proud he is of you.
You talk of your parents, in a positive or negative way? It doesn't matter. They aren't your parents, he is.
He doesn't say that part aloud, though. He's not exactly self-aware, but he can read other people well. He knows you don't view him that way. While he understands why you don't, it still hurts him... it hurts him so much.
You notice he asks about things you don't remember ever telling him about.
"How's your dog doing? Is the poor thing still sick?"
"You should really limit your social media intake... the amount you typically spend on it isn't good for your mental health."
"That fight with your friend... how are you holding up? Have they apologized yet?"
Lavender extends your sessions, little by little. He never cuts a conversation short when your time is almost up. Half of the time, it's you who notices you've stayed longer than you usually do.
He makes you feel as if everyone is the issue but you, whether that's true or not. His goal isn't really to build up your self-worth and confidence unless it's particularly low; it's more to isolate you and make you paranoid about others' intentions.
"It's just... they seem very manipulative. Do they normally act like that towards you?"
"I'm not saying you should cut ties with them, but I do think you should take a break. They seem to stress you out an awful lot."
"Are you really happy? You know you deserve better, right?"
For a while, it continues like this. The cycle only breaks when you either mention you'd like to quit sessions soon, or if you feel as if you're a danger to yourself.
He panics. He can't have you leave. Not now, not ever. He can't bear the thought of you being hurt, by yourself or by someone else.
And so, he fixes you some tea on your next session. He tells you he's worried about your stress levels and that it should help you relax.
When you feel yourself beginning to pass out, he doesn't even pretend to act concerned about the situation. He just calmly sips on his own glass of tea and watches you slump against the couch.
When you wake up, you're in a basement. It's a nice basement, it isn't dirty or too cold or too hot. But the walls are lined with cushions and soft blankets, the door is locked from the outside, and all the furniture is bolted to the floor. The only window is far too high for you to reach.
"Shh, shh, it's okay," he's right there, right when you wake. He brushes a stray strand of hair out of your face. "It's okay, you're safe. I saved you."
It's something he truly believes.
The world out there is cruel and dangerous and he's doing what any good parent would. The world hurt you. So he took you away from it. You'll see. One day you'll thank him. Even if he feels guilty for your tears and panic, he views it all necessary.
He conditions you. Every single day, he asks you questions as if you're doing your normal session, but the questions are now aimed at a specific goal.
"Tell me one thing about the outside world that hurt you."
"Tell me one thing I do that makes you happy."
And each correct answer—each instance of you speaking about the world as a bad place and him as a savior—is rewarded with a favorite meal, a new book, a movie, a soft new blanket. You can ask for anything you want, so long as it can be brought down here.
Even though he doesn't hide his sadness when you curse him out and insist he isn't your papa, he's patient.
He's willing to wait as long as it takes.
When you finally start coming around, he's overjoyed. He'll tell you he thinks it's finally time for you to come upstairs and get acquainted with your new room, that he believes you won't run away anymore.
After that, you have a surprising amount of freedom.
Sure, you can't leave the house, but the house is huge. It's filled with things you like, things he learned about you during your sessions. You're almost never left alone, but if you absolutely must be, all doors and windows are locked and deadbolted.
Snapdragon is your coworker.
SYMBOLISM: Deception, presumption, graciousness, warding off evil (or in this case, "bad influences")
He's a bit of a gossip. He knows everything about everyone. He's charismatic and funny and always seems to know exactly what to say to get on someone's good side. He has a way of making people feel special and understood.
He takes an immediate shine to you. He seeks you out during lunch breaks, sits at your desk during downtime, and always finds a way to make you laugh.
Everyone seems to either love him or feel anxious around him.
You notice how he happens to coincidentally be wherever you are. If you're grabbing a coffee, he's there. If you're heading out for lunch, he's already on his way and asks to join. If you step outside to take a call, he's leaning against the wall nearby, smoking a cigarette.
At work, he covers for your mistakes, takes the blame for things that are partially your fault, and generally makes your life easier.
He learns everything about you. He "overhears" your conversations, sees things on your desk, notices your routines. He likes getting you gifts, pretending its no big deal to him, but inside he is crying from happiness when you act happy and appreciative.
Then, he starts pointing out flaws in others. Not in a malicious way, but in a concerned kind of way.
"Did you see the way Aster looked at you when you presented that idea? She's obviously jealous, kiddo. Watch out for her."
"Sorrel from accounting? He's a creep. I saw him looking at your social media profile. Don't worry, I took care of it."
"I wouldn't trust your friend Snowdrop. They just seem... off to me. Like they're taking advantage of your kindness."
He begins to create small, manageable problems for you that he can then swoop in and solve. He'll "accidentally" delete a file you were working on, only to have it recovered from a backup he conveniently made. He'll "forget" to pass on a message, causing you to miss a meeting, but he'll smooth it over with your boss for you.
He is your savior, your protector against the petty dramas and backstabbing coworkers of your office. He's the only one who truly has your back.
When you finally start to believe it, when you start turning to him first for everything, when you cancel plans with friends to hang out with him instead, that's when he decides you're ready.
The "accidents" outside of work begin.
Your car won't start, but oh, look, Snapdragon was just passing by and can give you a ride. A "stranger" tries to grab your bag, but Snapdragon is there to scare them off. You come home to find your window broken, but he's already there, having "just been in the neighborhood," and is boarding it up for you.
Each incident makes you more and more dependent on him. You stop going out without him. You stop talking to your other friends, who seem to cause nothing but trouble.
You let him move in "just for a little while" after your place gets broken into a second, more serious, time.
You live with him now. He makes all your meals. He drives you to and from work. He chooses your clothes, your food, your entertainment. He has removed all "bad" influences from your life.
He tells you it's for your own good. He tells you that the world is a dark, scary place, but with him, you're safe. He tells you he loves you more than anyone else ever could.
Sometimes he jokes about how he's like a dad to you, just so he can gauge your reaction. When you don't flinch or correct him anymore, he knows he's won.
You're so much happier now, aren't you? You don't have to worry about anything anymore. Just let him handle it. Just let him take care of you.
She's old money. She's powerful, respected, and a little bit intimidating. Her office is on the top floor, with a view of the entire city.
She takes a special interest in you from the moment you're hired. She sees your potential. She wants to nurture it.
She starts by mentoring you, taking you under her wing. She invites you to galas and charity events, introducing you to influential people. She buys you expensive gifts.
"Just a little something," she says, as she hands you a diamond necklace or a vintage watch.
She criticizes everyone in your life, even your own family, in the most polite, backhanded way.
"That friend of yours... what's their name? Ah, yes. They're a bit... common for you, don't you think? You deserve better company."
"That man was your brother? My, my. He does seem to have a... rather unfortunate temper. I hope he's not like that with you."
She's especially passive-aggressive to your parents, if she ever meets them, especially if it's your mother or mother-figure. She can't stand the thought of there being another mother-figure in your life who holds any sort of sway over you.
She wants to be the only one.
She doesn't want to be your mother. As far as she's concerned, she is your mother. The biological one is an obstacle to be removed.
Slowly, she starts to manage your life. She'll "suggest" you break up with a partner she disapproves of. She'll "advise" you to cut ties with a friend she finds "unsuitable."
Her advice is always sound, always in your best interest.
One day, you come into work, and you find out you've been promoted. Shortly after you find this out, she says you should move into her penthouse to be closer to work and save money.
You protest, of course. But she's very, very persuasive. She points out all the flaws in your apartment, your neighborhood, your commute. She makes your old life sound squalid and chaotic.
And she does. Your new life is one of luxury and comfort. But it's also a gilded cage. She controls your finances, your social life, your career path. She has you quit your job to work as her personal assistant, a job with no real responsibilities but which keeps you by her side at all times.
The people in her social circle, the ones she introduced you to, all look at you with a strange pity. They know. They know what she's done. But they won't say anything. No one crosses Dahlia.
When you try to leave, when you finally realize the extent of her control and try to run back to your old life, you find it's gone.
Your friends won't return your calls. Your family says they're "disappointed" in you for throwing away such a wonderful opportunity. Your old job won't take you back. She's burned every bridge.
She finds you crying in your luxurious bedroom. She sits on the edge of your bed and holds you, stroking your hair.
"Oh, sweetheart," she croons. "Look what they've done to you. They've turned you against me. They were never good enough for you, not a single one. I'm all you have now. But that's okay. I'm enough. I'll always be enough for you."
By rumor, you hear he recently lost his child. He certainly acts like a man haunted by grief. He keeps to himself, but if you cross paths, he'll give you a tired smile.
If you show him a single iota of kindness, he will latch on. He'll start leaving small gifts on your doorstep: flowers from his garden, a freshly baked pie, a book he thinks you'll like.
He doesn't know a lot about you, but he's a fast learner. He watches you. He learns your schedule, your favorite foods, the names of your friends. He learns what makes you laugh and what makes you cry.
He seems harmless enough. Just a lonely old man trying to fill the void in his life. You don't have the heart to push him away.
Then you get sick.
It's unlike anything you've ever experienced before. The doctors are baffled. You're weak, your body aches, you're plagued by dizzy spells. You're too exhausted to leave your bed most days.
But Foxglove is there. He's always there.
He cooks for you, bringing you nourishing soups and teas. He cleans your apartment. He sits by your bed and reads to you. He's the perfect caretaker.
He's the one who poisoned you.
It was slow at first. A sprinkle of something in your coffee, a leaf from his garden mixed into your salad. He knows his plants. He knows exactly which ones cause weakness and confusion, which ones mimic the symptoms of a hundred different diseases.
He needs to be needed. He needs to care for you. He needs you to be as helpless as a child, completely dependent on him for your every need.
It's also the perfect excuse to coax you to move in with him after it continues for months.
"You can't live here alone anymore, dear. What if something happens? I worry so."
He makes you a room that looks a bit too childish, but he doesn't comment on it unless you do.
"Do you not like it? I just thought... you need your rest."
He becomes even more overbearing. He chooses your clothes, he brushes your hair, he even tries to feed you himself sometimes. He treats you like you're made of glass.
If you try to resist, if you try to assert your independence, he just gets this sad, wounded look on his face.
"After all I've done for you... you want to leave? Don't you know I love you? You're all I have left."
It's emotional blackmail at its finest. He'll turn on the waterworks at the drop of a hat. He'll talk about his "lost child" and how you're the only thing that makes his life worth living.
And if he truly believes that his manipulation isn't getting to you, he just ups your dosage. Your "illness" will suddenly worsen. You'll be too weak to argue, too tired to fight.
You are his child now. He will nurse you back to health, even if he has to break you completely to do it. He'll make you love him, to need him as much as he needs you. He's already taken your health, your strength, and your home. Your will is next.
Begonia is an assassin.
SYMBOLISM: Caution, beware, dark thoughts
She was hired by someone you made mad, for some petty reason you don't even remember.
Begonia is used to the same kind of clients. She typically watches them and always finds some reason or another to hate them. That's how she gets the job done.
But she doesn't hate you. Not one bit. You're kind, you're considerate, you're funny. You're... good. A real rarity in her line of work. She's spent weeks following you, and she's grown… fond of you.
It wasn't even a feeling she thought she was capable of feeling for anyone, let alone a target.
She has a dilemma.
She's a professional. She has a reputation to uphold. What if someone else found out she couldn't bring herself to kill you?
Everyone would think she's gone soft.
But then she comes to a much more upsetting realization; if her client finds out she didn't finish the job, they'll just send someone else who won't hesitate.
The third realization is that she doesn't want to let you go from her watch. She thinks that one is the most horrifying one of all. She's grown a soft spot for you. She doesn't think that she could watch over you like a normal person could, she doesn't think she could do it without being so far away that she could no longer protect you.
By the last realization, she already thinks you're her little angel who can do no wrong. You're the only good thing about this awful world... specifically, you're the only good thing about her awful world.
She realizes she needs to save you. She kidnaps you and collects the money, and conjures up fake evidence to prove she finished the job.
When you come to, you're in a basement.
"Hey, kiddo," she casually greets, dressed in her usual dress shirt and slacks. "Sorry 'bout this. The basement, I mean. I was so busy with keeping you alive, I forgot to even have a room ready for you. Forgive Mom, okay? I'll have it all ready soon, it'll be much cozier than this place."
Your response, in her mind, is completely unreasonable: "are you gonna kill me?!"
"What? Silly goose, why would I do that?"
"You kidnapped me! And there's blood on the walls!"
She makes a cooing sound, kneeling down and cupping your face in her gloved hand. "Don't worry, munchkin. It's not yours. Mom's not gonna hurt a single hair on your precious head." She presses a dramatic kiss to your forehead, chuckling at her own lipstick stain on your forehead. "Now, lunch is ready. It might be a little burnt, your mom's not the best cook, FYI. It's a work in progress."
Once your room is ready, she takes you upstairs. She's surprisingly patient. She doesn't raise her voice. She doesn't get angry. She doesn't hurt you. But she also doesn't let you leave.
The locks on the doors and windows are more advanced than any standard ones you've ever seen.
She tries so hard to be a normal mom. She leaves notes in your lunch bag. She takes you on "vacations" to other countries to get you away from the house (all of which are just to other safehouses).
Since she has enough money to retire, she does just that.
The reason she did her dangerous line of work was because she had no one in her life she cared for.
Now that she has you, she went from not having anything to lose to having everything to lose.
And losing you is something she doesn't think she could survive.
Oleander is a loner.
SYMBOLISM: Beware, danger, death
You end up stranded at his house after your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere during a terrible thunderstorm. The closest house for miles is his.
He lets you in, but he's awkward. He stutters. He won't make eye contact. He's clearly not used to having guests.
You end up staying for a few days, because the storm is relentless and the roads are flooded.
You try to make conversation, to get to know him. He's hesitant at first, but he slowly opens up. He tells you about his hobbies, his favorite books, the little garden he tends to out back.
He's surprisingly sweet, once you get past the initial awkwardness. He's a good listener. He's thoughtful. He seems to genuinely enjoy your company.
He seems almost desperate for it, actually.
You notice, in the short amount of time you're there, how much he seems to light up when you talk to him. You also notice how he grits his teeth and grows quiet whenever you mention anyone from your old life.
When the roads are finally clear, you expect him to be happy for you.
Instead, he looks devastated.
He corners you by the door.
"Please don't go, kiddo." His voice cracks. "Please. I... I've never been this happy. Just stay. A little longer. Please?"
You have to refuse. You have a life, a job, friends.
And with that, something in him breaks.
The next thing you know, you're waking up on the floor of the living room, a splitting headache and a metallic taste in your mouth. Your phone is smashed, your car keys are gone, and the front door is locked tight.
He's kneeling beside you, looking frantic and terrified.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," he's gasping. "I just couldn't let you leave. I can't go back to being alone again. I just can't. Please, forgive me. I'll be a good dad. I swear. I'll take care of you. Just give me a chance. Please, just give me a chance."
Unlike the others, he doesn't have a grand plan. He's clumsy and improvising every step of the way. He's a nervous wreck.
He's scared of you hating him, of you trying to escape, of you getting hurt. He hovers over you constantly, checking your temperature, making sure you're eating and drinking enough.
"Are you cold? Do you need another blanket?"
"Does your head still hurt? I can get you something for the pain. Please just... don't scream. I hate it when you scream. It breaks my heart, kiddo."
He buys you everything you could possibly want. He sets up a TV with all the streaming services, he buys you books and video games, he asks you what your favorite food is and learns to cook it perfectly.
He's trying to buy your affection, but it's not malicious. He's just a lost, lonely man who's convinced that he's the only one who can protect you. He's seen the news. He knows how horrible the world can be. Out there, you're a target. In here, you're safe.
But if you ever start seeking out the darkness of the outside world again... the news, the radio, anything that makes him feel like he isn't enough... he gets frantic. He'll take away the TV and radio.
"You don't need that stuff," he'll plead, his eyes wide with panic. "It's all poison. It just makes you want to leave. Don't you like it here? With me? I love you so much. Ain't that enough?"
When he's not panicking, he's surprisingly gentle. He'll read to you, he'll play games with you, he'll just sit in comfortable silence with you.
He's starved for affection, and you're the only one who can give it to him.
He wants to be your dad. He wants to tuck you in at night, to kiss your forehead, to tell you bedtime stories. He wants to see you smile and know that he's the one who put it there.
He'll do whatever it takes to make you stay. He'll do whatever it takes to make you love him. And if he can't have your love, he'll settle for your dependence. He'll settle for just having you here, where he can see you, where he knows you're safe.

I've been wanting to draw some of my dolls for the longest time and this turned out to be my most detailed artwork so far :') And since I really love the circus, I thought I could turn this into an interactive story, too. Let me know what you think! Based on classic stock characters from Italian theatre, Commedia dell'arte.
Content: gender neutral reader, horror, dark comedy, human and monster romance
You're finally here! Come on in, don't be afraid. Where is everyone else, you ask? Why, you're our only special guest, Darling (Y/N). This is all for you. Come, do not upset the Ringmaster. We will show you everything.
A night carnival? You've never heard of such a thing. Nonetheless, curiosity got the better of you when you found the trampled poster on your way back home. The actual message almost escaped your attention; you'd been too focused on the thick, ornate border, and the colorful, swirling patterns intricately filling the page.
"Last night in town! 'Wizard of Ozz' Night Circus, a mesmerizing show that will keep you glued to your seat. We're still searching for our Columbina. Perhaps you could become part of our story?"
Might as well check it out. Which is why you're currently here, in the outskirts, trying to find a walkable path among the weeds. It's dark and you can barely see anything in front of you. They're not trying very hard to provide an inviting atmosphere, you think to yourself.
Eventually, you discern a glimmer of light in the distance. You have found the circus tents.
The campsite is quiet and still, causing you to hesitate in your decision. Is it truly open?
There's a faint murmur coming from the main entrance. A small, melancholic Pierrot - when did he show up? - awaits by the heavy curtain, pale hands stretched out.
"Your ticket, Columbina", he announces with decorum. "Me and Arlecchino will show you any tent you want to visit. We are here to entertain you."
He ponders for a moment, before adding:
"I'm sure you'll like him more. He's a very alluring fellow. Me, on the other hand...Oh, forget it", he mumbles through pouting lips, ushering you inside.
"Aha! There's the star of our night! Our Columbina!"
A tall man in a pompous, glittery costume bounces towards you and lowers himself with a theatrical bow, giving your fingers a quick kiss. You pull your hand away, visibly bothered by the odd gesture.
"You keep calling me that. I'm (Y/N)", you argue.
"Yes, yes, of course we know that. Do ya take us for fools?" the Harlequin asks, kicking one foot in the air. The jingle of the bells at the tip of his shoe echoes across the hall. "You have, however - you must understand, yes? - you've entered Ringmaster's Circus. From now on, you are the Columbina to our play."
You raise your eyebrows in disbelief.
"Just like that? Why me, and not someone else?" you scan the surroundings, pursing your lips. "Where are the others?"
"Others?"
Harlequin makes an exaggeratedly shocked face and tilts his head towards Pierrot.
"What are they saying? You're the only one here, Columbina darling. After tonight, we-"
Pierrot's hand lands firmly on his friend's lips.
"You always talk too much. Always, always! And yet, you're the favorite. Of course you are. Oh, what pity, what misfortune", the pale young man laments. "We're wasting precious time."
They both burst into a little dance; a rather silly one, you think with an amused smile. Then, they place themselves besides the entrance, each one standing at one end, back straight and chins raised.
"Go on, go ahead, Columbina darling. This is your carnival. Choose any tent you'd like."
Pulcinella's Tent
The stage is pitch black, save for one spotlight contouring a patch of ground. You can see a large, colorful ball, and two feet clumsily rolling their way atop of it.
You chuckle at the sight. This must be the clown.
"No one can compete with Pulcinella's juggling", Pierrot declares somewhat monotonously. "His acrobatic spectacle has left many guests speechless, acting with such dexterity that one must wonder: is this truly the work of two hands?"
Lights flicker, allowing you to catch glimpses of smaller balls being thrown around. Juggling so many balls while bouncing around is indeed impressive.
"Rest assured, this is the art of one single man. Although four eyes are better than two."
The shadows are abruptly swallowed by spotlights, and you squint your eyes, adjusting to the brightness. A two-headed man continues his performance, throwing you the occasional cheeky smile.
"Ah, that is..." you place a hand over your mouth.
"A bother, truly", the Pierrot remarks, sitting next to you. "They're complete opposites."
He observes as both Pulcinella's heads tilt in your direction, visibly entranced. He sighs deeply:
"You'll love them either way. They're funny and entertaining, unlike me...A pathetic miser. Oh, if only I had half their charm!" he bemoans with a soft sob.
"Hey! Don't sadden my beloved like that", Pulcinella barks, jumping off the ball and running towards your seating with a comically merry jingle to accompany him.
You cannot help but marvel at the man in front of you.
"Enough of this, I've had enough! You don't get to decide yet, Pulcinella", Pierrot exclaims in sudden panic. He claws your wrist tightly and pulls you after him. "It's time to see other tents."
Sandrone's Tent
You peek behind the heavy curtain and freeze. Are your eyes deceiving you? Someone is idly resting at the bottom of a large aquarium, showing no struggle despite being underwater. The mysterious man senses your presence and emerges to the surface.
"Would you look at that! I can't remember the last time I had a visitor."
He gestures for you to come closer.
"Are you the new guest? Our Columbina?"
"I don't know what you're talking about", you speak up with hesitation, eyes glued to the scaly tail that seems eerily genuine. "I think I'll be leaving now."
"Leaving? Didn't the Ringmaster already tell you?" The merman claps his hands, amused. "You're naïve, I like that a lot. Perhaps this time I'll be the one to have you."
He abruptly grabs your wrist, and you jolt at the feeling. His hands are ice-cold and moist.
"Let me have a look at you, won't you? I'll help you hide from the others if you're good and listen to me."
You feel a pair of hands sinking into your shoulders, and you're ripped away from the merman. Harlequin's voice rumbles deeply across the room.
"You're being a fox again, aren't you, Sandrone? Hands off our guest! You don't get to pick yet", he scolds in a low growl. "Ringmaster won't be happy about it."
"Go on then, tell on me! Ringmaster's good boy, eh?" the dark-skinned man smirks mockingly and slams his tail against the glass. "Put a collar on that one, Columbina. See how well he barks", he snarls, then slides back underwater and promptly vanishes.
Harlequin's grip on your shoulders becomes tighter for a brief moment. You can tell he's tense.
"Let's get you out of here. Don't listen to a word he says, Columbina darling. He lies, you see? No one trusts him. You should rely on me."
Pantalone's Tent
You gawk at the impressive height of this tent, head nearly spinning from tilting yourself all the way back. Ah, this must be the trapeze artist. Indeed, one of the two handles is dangling above you, and it occurs to you there's no safety net. A tall, lean man swiftly pounces across, reaching for the trapeze. His movements are slow, yet calculated, and you can't help but wonder if he might actually be flying instead.
Upon closer inspection, it appears he has no arms.
"Madness", you find yourself shouting. "Stop this nonsense!"
He gracefully wraps his legs around the bar, swinging back and forth with a confident smile.
"You doubt me, Pantalone himself?"
With another thrust, he lets himself go, spiraling down against your terrified protests. His heeled shoes clack against the hard tile. Lastly, he stretches out his bandaged stumps, as if signaling his successful landing.
You find yourself bowing to the grand gesture.
"Yes, yes, it's rather impressive, isn't it?" Pierrot follows behind you in his usual dull tone. "Pantalone is our master acrobat."
He lifts his gaze and notices that the man didn't bother waiting for a full introduction; he's already standing before you with a flirty grin.
"...and a charmer, I suppose. What, you're already doing your tricks?"
The sallow clown squeezes himself behind you two protectively.
"Shoo, shoo! Columbina is merely visiting."
He lightly pushes you away, towards the exit. You throw one final glance at the mysterious individual; he waves with his residual limb, and winks.
"You know where to find me, love."
Il Capitano's Tent
You feel a radiant heat coming from this tent. In the middle of the ring stands a grand cage. An animal of sorts? You keep your distance, observing from the benches.
A monstrous giant stumbles within your view with heavy steps. A thick, scaly tail rattles the bars of the cage, swinging itself with the precision of a bullwhip.
"Il Capitano himself!" the Harelquin announces theatrically, bending his arms in the direction of the blue beast. "The strongman, the fire-spitting artist, a most devilish creature captured and chained by our Ringmaster."
"Is this one mine?" the monstrous man pins you down with a predatory gaze.
"Perhaps", Harlequin spits out bitterly. "They decide, not you."
You squirm in your seat, suddenly much smaller under his intense stare. The charismatic guide's smile falters for a brief second, replaced by an envious grimace.
Il Capitano inhales deeply, expanding his torso and contracting his muscles. His fanged mouth then unhinges, releasing a great flame which spreads all the way to you. You're almost tempted to reach towards it, feeling the sting with your very fingers.
"Amazing", you mumble, still mesmerized by the spectacle.
This was no cheap trickery. Capitano is truly a one-of-a-kind artist. No human could replicate such a feat.
The beastly creature holds onto the bars of his cage, shoving his snout outside and grinning. Puffs of smoke escape between his teeth.
"Come down here and I can do even more, little one."
Harlequin gasps and gestures for you to stand up.
"Outrageous! How dare you-!"
He urges you to follow him outside. Enough monstrous sights for now.
"Shall we head towards the other tents, darling?"
Harlequin walks ahead, deep in contemplation. Pierrot scurries after him, whispering the remaining choices. Your shoulders are heavy, and you're quite tired from the eventful night.
You notice a little opening between the lavish curtain folds and decide to sneak away. They needn't know about your departure. You stumble around dark halls, following the cool breeze of the outside, until you're met with the starry sky.
Your path is blocked by two large poles, so you step to the right. Your body freezes in terror when they move with you. Slowly, you raise your head and follow the black shapes, and realize they're legs.
Far, far above ground, towering over the entire circus, you see two glowing eyes.
It's the Ringmaster.
"Bad, bad Columbina", he reproaches.
The voice is off, like an old, broken record reverberating against your eardrums. A cold shiver runs across your spine.
"I'm sorry", you blurt out in fear.
A long, bony hand appears before you, twitching with a loud pop. You wrap your hands around a finger, desperate to not anger this unholy creation.
"Let's take you to your caravan. We're leaving tomorrow."
Oh, God. What have you done?
Now, now, don't fret. There's nothing to be afraid of. Come, put that frown aside. Everyone loves you here. After all, you're their most precious Columbina. What's a Circus without its treasure?
